Game: Musya
System: SNES
Version: (US)
This is the longplay of Musya, an action and platform game developed by Jorudan and released exclusively for the Super Nintendo, published by Datam Polystar in Japan by SETA USA in the United States, launching in 1992 in the two territories mentioned.
Musya follows a pikeman (described as a spearman in the Japanese version) named Imoto (Jinrai (神雷) in the Japanese version), who must descend into the abyss to face demons and save a girl named Shizuka. After Imoto survives a battle in which all the other combatants die, he travels to the village of Tengumura, where he ends up fainting. The mayor, Akagi (who is unnamed in the Japanese version), greets Imoto and says that Shizuka (しずか) needs to be rescued. Imoto heads to Tengumura Cave (known in the Japanese version as Kihōshōnyūdō (鬼宝鍾乳洞) to go after saving Shizuka.
The game is an action platformer, where the hero uses his spear to attack, whether with physical attacks or ranged attacks, as well as spells that he learns as he passes the levels. In addition to spells, Imoto can also count on the help of items to summon three characters that can guarantee him invincibility for a few seconds, attack all enemies on the screen or recover all his life.
The game looks promising, but it is relatively mediocre, with a soundtrack that is not outstanding, very dark and well-made graphics but with few details, in addition to not being possible to shoot the projectiles diagonally, which would help a lot. In addition, there is also repetition of stages, with just a little different. It's a straight-to-the-point game.
I hope you enjoy the video.

the soundtrack is very underrated... a few of the tracks are outstanding... level 2, level 3 and level 3 boss music are excellent.

For a game trying to evoke horror with some neat creepy visuals, it's really undermined by the uninspiring soundtrack and goofy sounding sound effects. Thanks for playing it through for everybody to see, though!

Well said! The graphics also look very... 'cheap' and unanimated for snes/sfc in some aspects... almost looks more like an early PC Engine game. If this had the same level of effort and skill Super Castlevania IV had just for graphics and sound, it'd be truly masterful.

I think the music fits in with the exoticness of the game..

@@Hausbrauen Good eye, this does have notes of an earlier PC Engine title. I still like this game, but yeah if it matched the quality of Castlevania IV graphics/animation/sound-wise (even if just all these static backgrounds being replaced with delicious parallax layering alone), it'd be on a whole other level.

Yep. While I'd say it's worth playing as-is and I love its unique vibe, you're also spot-on.
