Longtail Mudmotor with a Clutch

Күн бұрынOn this episode we put a @Mudskippermotors bolt on retriever clutch system to #azblackpearl on a Mud-skipper 7hp Longtail Drive kit with Harbor Frieght #predator224
This clutch kit should bolt on to other brands of Thai Longtail kits including 7hp CLP Beaverdam and SPS Swamprunner kits and possibly other longtail kits with the same crankcase bolt pattern. The clutch allows for very slow controlled tight turns, easy idling in place even in the current and easy loading on to a trailer. This also allows for more safety as the propeller stops spinning after the throttle is released. This gives you alot of the advantages of a surface drive combined with a longtail. This is a very innovative new product to the longtail world. Hope you enjoy this install and demonstration.

The shipping weight was 10#! Having that extra weight on back of engine helps keep the blade in the water

@@azlongtales I actually got to test out my 212cc kayak and it was too fast for that 8 ft kayak so I just need to buy a 10 or 12 ft kayak so it can hold the weight better.I might just end up getting a John boat so I can fit my family.

I ordered one. And am thinking of rebuilding the guts with a Hilliard extreme duty clutch. My motor is a Predator 212 building 12-13hp

Currently they only make one rated to 16hp max right now. Hope fully they release 22hp one in the future.

At what rpm does the clutch engage at?

At 7:25 you can see it it engages at a comfortable 2k idling at 1600 no problem

It always me with the bad vibes I see no reason for a clutch on a long tail It just something that might somehow fail not to mention it cost money If a boat was a wheeled vehicle perhaps a clutch would help But a boat is not Just idle down and pick theu prop out of the water This may well be new and innovative I wonder if the taiwanese run clutches on small on their small long tails I world find that hard to believe

It's not 100% necessary but it's pretty convenient. Especially for duck hunting with dogs. Obviously a direct drive will always have the best power transfer. But it definitely helps the learning curve with new people for using a longtail.

@@azlongtales I live in south louisiana and have spent more time than most in real wooded swamps i have a camp in the atchafalaya basin. No a clutch on a long tail is not needed nor wanted by any cajun I ever seen In as far as help in the operation of ability to run a boat It a funny but true fact Some people can and some people can not. Sort of like standing on one foot; Some people just do not have the ability
