I live here. Has plenty of medical facilities,restaurants,different income neighborhoods,schools. Access to higher education for degrees. Also churches of different faiths. The one thing that is severely lacking is places for young people to go to for fun activities. There are trails,clubs and things of that nature. But as far as just a place to go have fun without it costing an arm and a leg; Longview needs more young people places. That being said, Longview is in rolling hills and is a good place to live in north east Texas.

Longview isn't a terrible place to live, but it is definitely not a tourist attraction.

You realize you missed 90% of town, right? You drove up the spur north, crossed over to judson, then took the loop right back to the spur and headed back south again. Why didn't you actually go around town? It's called the 'loop' for a reason. A semi-lucid person would assume to LOOP around the town and see what there was. You missed pretty much everything, lmao. I guess if you go somewhere and make a quick circle in the center around a residential area for 20 mins while avoiding the majority of the town, you can say that about pretty much anywhere. Seriously, why not go down to gilmer rd, or around the loop and back to 259? over to the theater and across to Lobo stadium, or out by the college? what about downtown? you loop around a residential area that makes up 10% of town and just make a decision about the place? You literally drove in a oval shape back to where you came from without attempting to see anything at all. Just admit you didn't know where the hell you were, or where you were supposed to go. It's like staying for 5 mins of a movie, not making through the opening credits, and claiming the movie sucked, lol

I've been here all my life, I've seen a lot of changes some good and some bad. Trent Williams also lived here his family is still here. He has done a lot for the Lobos and needy families here. Forest Whitaker an actor who is also from Longview. Neil McCoy is still here. I haven't heard anything that Mathew has done for Longview. Been here all my life.

Damn I so glad you did this video, I was down there for the hurricane a year and a half ago and I can tell you I didn't want to leave! I loved it over there !

I have friends who moved their recently due to family being there. They seem to be okay with the town, purchased a beautiful home.

You have no idea about what you speak of in this video. You basically drove around in a circle. Then want to make you an assumption about the entire town based on that. Downtown is not hard to access from the starting point of your video. All you had to do was take a left and you are almost there but you didn't. Longview is not my favorite town but at the same time you don't give it any kind of a fair shake at all. You didn't drive around on the north side of town. You didn't go by any of the schools or try to see what was around those areas did you. No. You probably need to do a little more research and background on some of the places you visit.

I was born and raised in Longview. I haven't been there in years since I live so far away. You may not be impressed and that's ok. But I want to thank you for driving me around through KZfaq to give me memories of my old days there. I was born and raised there. Wow. Many memories.

Longview isn't a bad town at all. The politics are interesting because it's a retirement community so it's very conservative but at the same time the younger crowd is trying to bring in more culture, especially downtown in the Arts District. The Artwalk is pretty cool with a lot of local artists and the food at most locally owned places is pretty good. But, yeah, lots of churches, coffee shops, smoke shops, carwashes and banks. The southside is the older part of town, hence it's more rundown as it was abandoned as part of a "white flight" to the northside, Also, that line at the Hotdog Express is kind of annoying, but the place is a local institution and it's surprisingly good,

I've lived here all my life. I wouldn't move for anything. Lots of good people here.

Ha, Ha, I laugh at you for your opening statement. Unimpressed. I came from 30 miles away to find work here. There is plenty of industry here. and in the surrounding area. Family life is great here. The high school football team is State ratted. Our lower grades are some of the best taught schools in the state. Thjere is a church for every faith. You just travelled down the wrong streets. You missed Longview..

I grew up in East Tx and spent a lot of time in Longview over the past 50 years. 20 years ago and before it was the pits. I think it's pretty amazing now considering. Much cleaner and nicer than what it used to be. I really do love Longview and wouldn't mind living there one day.

Hello. I was born and raised in Longview, Texas. My reason for this search was because I had become homesick and needed a little pick me up. I ran across your episode and immediately realized the sarcasm and disrespect. There is no need for all that meanness. I can't wrap my brain around why someone would go to a town and bash them. I was raised in a way to be respectful of others. This is in no way, form, or fashion respectful.

Went to Longview several times to visit my son. It's a ok town.

It's spread out and there's always bad areas but overall it's nice city that's growing. Alot of shopping and places to go.

You went another way to Mall. All you had to do was stay on McCann Rd and it takes you straight to the mall. Longview has a lot of places to go to. I use to go shopping in Longview every weekend. I love it because the traffic is not bad. Longview is growing. There is another shopping area & it's off of Eastman Rd. This area has Targets and several other places to shop & eat.

If this is how you build your following then so be it but I was born in a small town not far from Longview or Tyler Texas. We moved away to the city when I was 9 yrs old. There's nothing wrong with living in small quiet towns. It can be a beautiful thing And yes pace is much slower as it should be!!! Most people move to areas like them when they think about retiring. For men they like hunting, fishing, boating at the lakes, anyone that is athletic can run for miles on country road and not be bothered normally Plant your own food and get away the bad stuff, rest better because it's so quiet. In the winter the snow is pretty and white a on the acreage it's beautiful we own land. So if you don't like the country stay the hell out!!! Don't go back. IJS

Having lived here most of my life, I will say at the southside was deemed uninsurable in the 80s and everything went downhill from there. Best thing about the southside is LeTourneau University (Belcher Center and Solheim Arena) and Kamatsu plant which you drove by. The apartments on that side of town are very run down. You drove past the apartments I just moved out of on the north side on Judson Rd. The spill out from the south side is heading that way. People make a little money and get out of the south side. Unimpressive is the way we like it. Tyler has a little more culture and traffic. You should have toured Kilgore. There is a lot to see for a small town there. Some run-down areas but Kilgore College and downtown have some historic places. The construction zone you drove through at the start of the video is a new extension to the walking/bike trail going under the road. It will wind through most of the north side when completed.

It's a town. Rent is up, beer is cheap. Murders are usually gang related and can be on the south side beyond the tracks or over in Pine Tree where loop 281 and hwy 80 meet. If you have a single floor mall in your town and an Applebee's, you already got the vibe. Let's just say you're far more likely to get arrested for weed in Tyler, tx. I live on the southside and murder/shootings are only bad if you run off with someone's half pound of cocaine. It's VERY specific crime. As for home invasions, that's all over Texas. Get an alarm or a dog.

I am glad this video exists for nostalgia reasons. Native Longview kid now living in Orlando. I will say as others have, you didn't necessarily get the best impression from what you drove through. I grew up in Canada and three years ago me and my mom and siblings moved to California it got too expensive so we went to dallas texas perfect but then are grandma got sick and we went to see her in Longview we stay for a year and decided to move back to canada we hated longview there was nothing to do fun there was barley places to go shopping at and my mom got kept yelled by her workers for no reasons and her boss fired her so it waa a struggle

Man I remember living here and as a kid it was a alright place to be. I usually visited my aunt which still lives in longview and she would tell me stuff that happened around the apartments she recently moved out of and I can see why. And it was a bit boring after one of my favorite places to go shut down and I was sad that it did. I just wish there was more stuff to do.

I went back to visit a few months ago, and almost cried when i went out to see my old schools (Mozelle Johnson, and JMS) only to see they are no more. Even the nature trail was overgrown 😭. Lived there from 1987 till 08.

I live here, too. It is a dump. Not much work if you are not in with the local power. Retail, restaurant, hotel, or call centers. Low wages. Streets are crumbling. Law enforcement is a joke. Street racing and red light running is the norm. Half the population is black/hispanic. There is much hostile racism from the blacks. The economy began to fail in the late eighties with the oil bust and many professionals and businesses LEFT. Christus Health if horrid and after they bought out Good Shepard many of the best professionals left. The population remaining for the most part are died in the wool locals that LOVE it this way. Don't be fooled by pine trees. Spend a long weekend here and watch the walmarts and restaurants and the racing on the Loop before you make a decision you cannot change easily.

Longview is like any other city...it has good and bad points. But all in all more good points....just don't go to South side after dark.

I moved here from Tyler about 1 yr ago. One thing, as a former law enforcement officer, this town has a shit ton of police 🚔 cruisers that drive around per population. That could be a good thing or a bad sign of high crime.???? It is a lot easier to get around the streets then Tyler for sure. I haven't had any negative experience while living here. It has lots of shopping places and he's right, the south side is the bad part of town and the north is newer and better. But again, lots of black and whites cruising the town...

I was raised in Longview, Texas. Longview is boring. Most of the crime is on the southside of town but it's specific crimes (as in the people usually know each other/grew up together.

My Gramps ( who mostly raised me) went to Letourneau here after WWII bought a home on Noel Dr( 727) which was "home base" between overseas gigs (southeast asia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, South America) but I gradded here ( long story where I got expelled for shoving a nun- her fault) in 86 at 17.....looks totally different but equally oppressive ...have not been there in 30+ yrs.....your video? lends me no remorse thereof lol.....

Longview is a great place to live…if your wealthy. There’s a lot of old money there. The rich stay rich and the poor stay poor. That being said, you just randomly driving around, missing anything of real interest in no way represents the city. It is both better than you depicted, and way worse, depending where you go and when you go there.
