Natural boundaries no longer limit the range of motoring as cars are carried through tunnels, on ferries, over the new Forth Road Bridge, by train, air ferry and possibly by hovercraft in the future.

Amazing to see this, in 1968 we won a return trip prize to fly our 1928 Rolls - Royce to Bruges from Southend Airport in a Bristol Air Freighter as shown ( British Air Ferries ), only one other car was allowed, it was a terrifying experience driving onto the lift which in our case we were allowed to do .2 years later we travelled on the SRN-4 hovercraft.We still have the car after 55 years now 92 years old , she has travelled by air , sea and skimmed over it !.

So it will exist after you turn into a collection of bone and dust? Truly remarkable

It's odd looking at it now. Seeing this sort of thing as a youngster was really cool and cutting edge. It looks so archaic and frankly terrifying now.

Britain pioneered air car travel, the rest of the world put car rentals at the airport.

£100 to Switzerland! That fella with the Mk10 Jaguar will be out of luck, no way his car will fit on that plane.

the train fare and some of the water ferries prices seem quite high considering wages in those days ...the plane seems a bargain!

3:02 Cars are £20 return, that's cheap said the man. Passengers are extra, the bloke asked how much? £30 each said the ticket man! What? Bollocks to that, just take the car!

Surely the practice of air ferries must have been quite dangerous Supposing a car had a fuel leak or even worse a fire caused by dodgy wiring Were they checked before take off? No way would this be allowed today
@CaseyJonesNumber13 жыл бұрын
You could probably say the same for ferries or hovercraft, which each carry (or carried, in the latter case) a lot more cars than a plane could ever do. Probably easier to tackle a fire on a ferry or hovercraft, but I expect the cars were not unattended on the flights.

The car might be a thing of the past soon. Take a look at Ehang. 🍉🍉
