Look at the reduction gearbox in a Peugeot Partner/Citroen Berlingo 22kWh electric van

In this video I look around the reduction gearbox (part no. 9800017080) from a 2012-2022 Peugeot Partner Electric 22kWh or a Citroen Berlingo Electric (same van). It helps identify the locations of the oil fill and drain plugs, which are very difficult to see when looking underneath the vehicle.
The oil recommended by the manufacturer is Mobil Gear Oil FE 75W Manual Automotive Transmission Fluid or genuine Peugeot Part Number: 9730 AG. But any SAE 75W will do and probably better to use a synthetic equivalent too.

Great video have worked on condition monitoring for many years and seen the reduction in side bands around the gear mesh frequency after lubricant change.

I remember contacting you about a "knocking" sound these do when you change drive and change power output. Basically managed to get a warenty cover change from Peugeot during 1st COVID. The new one still "knocks" have owned the van for 2-3 years now and done 20kish miles. 2015 model. Other than the knocking so far no issues. But good see what it looks like.

These vans all do make a 'knock' when selecting a gear (drive, reverse or park). Although it doesn't sound good, its normal for these. A knocking while driving when accelerating or decelerating could be a motor mount. The issue with the sleeve connecting the motor to the gearbox is something I've not yet experienced myself, but I've heard of two cases of this.

Mine has made a knocking when decelerating for quite a while. Seemed to get worse worse this Summer and accompanied by an engine warning light, which has since gone. Garage hasn't been able to identify the problem other than something to do with the Motor-generator.

Thanks for this. I’m trying to persuade my local garage here to replace the sleeve. Any advice on removal of the gearbox for me?

I've not removed this particular one before, but they are pretty easy as they just bolt on to the motor. It's getting the drive shafts out first is the more difficult task, as you have to make room for them, so it means disabling at the wheel end.

This video is so very informative. Revealing some of the "black art" of EVs. Regarding your comments about Nissan oil, would you recommend swapping it for 75w quite early on? Also, can drivers drive in a manner to reduce the possible failures that you mention?

I'm no expert on oils or gearboxes at all, but from the gear oil changes I've done, Nissan Leaf and ENV200 reduction gearboxes do seem to suffer significantly more wear than others. Whether that is down to the oil used or the quality of the gears inside, I'm not sure. Neither have particularly powerful motors either. But they're the only ones that use ATF in their gearboxes and it looks like all other EVs use 70W-75W manual transmission oil. I suspect it will do no harm switching to 75W MTF oil in the Nissans, as EV reduction gearboxes are all pretty similar. As to how you can reduce possible failures...you can't really. Maybe not flooring it and wheel spinning? Changing the oil every 50k miles can only help, but will not affect the sleeve issue with these Peugeot gearboxes - that's just a poor design.

hi, i think i have to change the sleeve between the engine and gearbox. isi easy to remove the gearbox from the engine? do you have a video about that?

I've not done this on a Peugeot. Removing the gearbox is easy enough, but its just depends on how much access space there is. You have to remove the half shafts and one wheel hub on the gearbox side.

No. eBay is your best option as all the breakers use this platform now. You have to buy a complete reduction gearbox though.

You'd have to remove the gearbox from the motor, so no, not an easy job. I don't know if you can do this with the motor in situ - maybe enough room there.
