Look At This: Watts Towers

It took Simon Rodia 35 years to build the Watts Towers with nothing but his hands. It is mostly made of steel rebar, wire mesh, concrete and anything Rodia could find on the side of the road. He would pick up material on the side of the road during his walks down the nearby Wilmington Avenue.

I had a date with a girl we went walking around about 2:00 a.m. and then we had a two burritos and a Fatburger under the Watts Towers in 1972

Amazing site, my Dad would take me there and told me the history of the Watts Towers. Up close I saw plates teacups spa bottles pretty much like what was said whatever he could find for his build. I once lived on 107th people from all over would stop and stare at the Watts Towers and check out what it was created with it is amazing.

My grandparents and great grandparents and myself grew up on 108th st (next block) my folks use to give Simon glass and such and he would give them a nickel for helping him out . Much has changed in the neighborhood but those towers will always be dear to me .👍🏻

Just check the hours. I got there too early. They were only doing guided tours and I was a half hour early. Went to the Burger King across the street for a quick lunch, they were playing One More Saturday Night by the Grateful Dead, live version. Then did the tour, was incredible. What a great day!

I was dragged and robbed at the Watts Towers. I’m glad that the passerby’s and police rescued me. Thank you fellow strangers

@judeinLA. I don't believe you. I've been there many times over the years. Always lots of tourists there and the Cultural Center on the campus offers a conducted walking tour. Great vibes.

I did see them and they are amazing. The video does not do them justice. Incredible colors, intricate mosaics. One of the most magical places I've ever been. I was there March 2009.
