For me, there is a sound difference. For example, the space bar sounds so much nicer with the silver switches when you're typing!

@@lasergamer2869 I've had the dk61 with gateron yellow switches for about a month now, coming straight from mx cherry blues. It's definitely something to get used to, you will push buttons on accident but when you get the hang of it, you will love it!

Actuation is the main thing here. The weight unless it is very heavy won’t affect times too much to a point where it adds up. I have Gat reds and I have the light springs. They just make it awkward to use the keyboard unless you are always focusing on where you are pressing.

I think the thing with having a faster switch is not the time difference in registering the input, it is supposed to get you into the "flow". In games with a lot of micro inputs like valorant mindset is really important. If your fingers are going to be getting more tired from long actuation and "heavy" springs then that will limit your time where you're at your peak. It's the same reason people are interested in light weight mice.

I use silvers in my k95. And I love em. But I need to make a kb and needed a reference on how loud they are. Using them I never relised how loud they are until I listened to this and relised how silent most switches actually are. Thank you for the insight 🙏

sorry I'm late to the party, but this switch comparison is still very relevant. So it's August 2023 and I just picked up a Mizar MZ60 for $20 on sale. crazy deal. I had to think about what switch I want because I have a Fnatic Streak 65 that has the same switch as the Gateron Silver essentially. The smaller key travel actually caused me to make a lot of accidental key presses it was kinda sloppy. I went with the Optical Red's because they're the classic switch and I don't have any accidental key preses with Red's. Although If I ever mod the keyboard and lube the switches I think I'm going get some good custom switches or a Gateron Clears. I like the 4.0mm travel way better so the Clears are a perfect Yellow switch without the button press problems.

I ordered keyboard with yellow swiches and then I changed my mind and bought a little bit different keyboard with the same brand but this time I decided to take silver switches. I liked yellow switches but I wanted to try more so I ordered keyboard with silver swiches so now I want back yellow switches I think those are better. This 10 grams is so much difference. Ur hand getting tired much faster with silver swiches

I'm looking for some linear switches to change out some of my shift keys and enter keys, and only used red linears before which i found kinda light for the whole board, yellow would be too light for me but im thinking about geting silvers. Which would you reccomend? The rest of my board is browns.

I use silver switches and also tried once the yellow ones. Definitely the silvers are smoother than yellow switches. Also, if you don't really game at a competitive level, Silver switches are pretty good to gaming and fast writing (at least that's my opinion).

I'm no expert on that unfortunately. Tried with one board I have an didn't turn out great. I recommend just looking up any stabilizer modding video on KZfaq and that should help. Switch & Click and 3ildcat have some helpful videos for sure!

Do you have other keyboards that you could use for switch sound tests? The hollow metally ping on that one detracts/distracts from the switch sound rather than enhancing or highlighting it. Not hating, just my honest observation of how the sound test could be better.

Oh man my tastes have come a loooong way from what they were when I made this video lol. My more recent keyboard videos will reflect that. But yeah I always have a hard time hearing spring ping in my room unless it’s really bad. The mic pics up way more than my ears do. I’m sure if I used these switches now I wouldn’t like them lol

i don't have a link but you want gateron OPTICAL yellow switches. there's a big difference between optical, and the traditional 3 or 5 pin switches. just search for gateron optical yellow switches and you can find them on various sites

Gateron is a brand of switches. They make many switch types, but they are one of the only makers of optical switches.

Gateron Optical Yellows are 35g. Gateron MECHANICAL Yellows are 50g. Not sure why they did it that way but yeah it is confusing.

yeah they're real. kinda hard to fake opticals considering how they work. misspellings really aren't sketchy so much as they are a sign of companies who's first language is not english. it's very common on amazon and tons of other retailers for tons of good products. nothin to worry about.

Out of the ones I've used, the Anne pro 2 is one of my favorite. But I recommend going with a hot swap board IF you want options later for better switches/lubing switches. My current personal fave is what I'm using right now: the Glorious GMMK Compact. Planning a video for it asap

@@zaldisvatlers1410 my favorites that I've used are Gateron Yellows and Tangerine switches. Tangerines being among the smoothest stock switches available. Trouble with those is they're only available at limited times when thekey.company has them in stock. I've heard Gateron ink black switches and novelkey creams are really good. But Gateron Yellows are some of the smoothest budget switches Whatever you choose, keep in mind the GMMK supports 3 pin switches. If you get anything with 5 pins, you'll have to carefully snip off the two plastic pins from every switch before they'll fit

do you have a switch remover? If so, try to check how many pins the switch has at the bottom.

They're not something I prefer for typing. They work, sure, but they're just so light to type on. If you can get used to it it's fine, but I'm more heavy handed so i accidentally press keys when I don't mean to. If anything, the silvers are the better of the two for typing.

Which one sounds “better” is all gonna be up to preference. What one person prefers from a switch sound may be different from another person. I recommend checking out other sound tests of these switches and seeing what you like more 😁

@@quackx3958 I prefer the silver. The optical yellow is too light and it became annoying for me to accidentally hit a key when resting my hand and typing. Silver is a good sweet spot. To me they both sound similar and I don’t really like how they sound lol

It depends on what you want, if you want a slightly faster switch go for yellow then but its pretty much the same. In my opinion the silver switches sound more nice and muffled

Optical yellows are lighter to press and regular yellows are heavier but also known to be the smoothest budget linear switch. What's important to know is that they don't work with the same type of board. Yellows are traditional 3 or 5 pin switches and optical yellows are... optical.

Any keyboard with either of the two switches shown in this video should be among the fastest. Don’t stress too much about it though because as shown in the test here we are talking about fractions of a second

@@user-yk2wb2zo8x if you are willing to take it apart, desolder the switches, solder on the new switches, and void your warranty that’s the only way. A lot of the bigger companies like Corsair and Razer don’t make hot swap yet

3 and 5 pin switches yes. Optical no. IMO the shadow is the better option because you can use all the awesome custom switches out there

@@LordFprquad I haven’t tried the snowfox or the shadow but from what I can tell, the snowfox is the white and the shadow is the black but they’re the same keyboard. I could be wrong, but I believe that is the case

Optical switches have a part of the switch stem poke out through the bottom of the switch, blocking infrared sensors on the keyboard, sending a signal to your computer. People like them because they’re supposed to be more durable and are supposedly faster than mechanical switches.
