Hi Mrs. Elly, I love it, this gelled soap is truly beautiful. I had read before about the benefits of neem oil for hair, but I had never heard about benefits for skin, however it makes sense! It would have never crossed my mind about putting it in a soap bar. Also, other than one recipe for pure coconut oil soap, I don’t think I have any other soap recipe in my collection that doesn’t use any olive oil! This is fascinating. Thanks so much, you’re my #1 go-to for soap recipes and ideas; sending much love to you Down Under from Florida, USA.😊

Elly, I was very happy about your neem soap tutorial because the materials used are all easy to access in tropical areas I'm also happy to share the fact that I finally made my very first batch of Tea Tree oil,Grapeseed Oil,Chanca Piedra tea soap.The base oils were 80% Coconut Oil, 20% Shea Butter with 20% SF.The resulting soap was so nice I'm inlove with it. It's very soothing to the skin and lathers well. Thank You Very much and may our Lord Jesus bless you always.

Hi Elly.....I love using neem oil in all my soap....😊....... I guess it's just because of me being Indian and knowing the benefits of neem..... using neem oil@ 10% in any recipe will give you a brown colour even if you don't use neem powder that's what I've experienced.
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking

Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! I have made neem oil soap a few times before though and it wasn't dark brown like this. I even used more neem oil in my previous recipes. This is the first time I've used powder and first time it's gone dark brown, so I thought it was the powder (and it makes sense that it would). I'll have to try it without the powder now to see! Thanks for your input :)

Hi Elly, your absolutely right...... My neem oil soaps don't turn this dark brown. I’m with you, I love plain soap. The most I will do as to decorate the surface is to make a design within the surface, using a cake tester. Thus still leaving the surface relatively smooth, yet with an embossed design. Personally I think that those shmooshed-up tops would trap water in the hollows albeit they always look fun to do, appealing to the inner little girl 😊😊. Your Neem soap would be good for Pets too, methinks. 💗

Talking about lye, I have been making soap for well over 45 years and I have never had an incident until recently. I have always kept a spray bottle of vinegar close by when making soap because vinegar deactivates the lye but I happen to have my gallon bottle of vinegar out as well that day, and I don’t know what happened but I splashed soap into both of my eyes that I had just added the lye to, and so I immediately bent backwards over the sink and filled my eyes with vinegar. It wasn’t pleasant, but it stopped any damage, so I highly recommend keeping vinegar around when you’re making soap.! I did see the eye doctor, and he said if it wasn’t for the vinegar, I would’ve lost both eyes! Lesson learned never be confident when doing something dangerous!!
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 9 ай бұрын
I'm sorry to hear about your eye, but glad it is ok! The MSDS for NaOH doesn't suggest vinegar, but rather lots of water then to the doctor! Personally, I would avoid it altogether by always wearing goggles. I never make soap without complete eye coverage over my glasses.

Oh that's great Kelly! If you wanted to change from palm/tallow/lard for the palm oil portion, you'd have to recalculate a completely new recipe to pair with the 10% neem. You could use many different oils for the 60% portion, depends on what you have! I realized that just because the soap mass is dense and thick, it is not certain that it will be a hard soap, or that it will set the next day at all. And I don't understand why, but when I cook it, it doesn't gel for me, but it releases the water. It will be like dry cow's curd that has been soaked in water.😢

Our palm oil here is red is it the same as the palm oil you use in this recipe? Can I use palm kernel oil in place of palm oil? Thank you for sharing

Yes, you can use your lovely red palm oil! You can't interchange palm kernel oil for palm oil though. They are quite different. Check out hte palm oil videos (links in description).

Love your videos. I'm from South Africa, was wondering if you might look into a Neem Soap for Dogs? I've read that Neem helps with ticks and skin irritation on pets and its non toxic.

Hi Ellie. Can you make this recipe HOT PROCESS method? Would the benefits be the same from the Neem Oil? Would you add the Neem Oil after the cook?
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 5 ай бұрын
Yes you absolutely can! I think the benefits would be the same. CP soap gets pretty hot too through the gel phase. I'd just add the neem at the start with the other oils.

Yes! I learn the lesson the hard way " dont leave it too long😅 " i waited 24 hrs to cut 100% virgin coconut oil 😂 so hard to cut.thank you for reminding me.5 hrs is enough when you're located somewhere in Malaysia 😅
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 9 ай бұрын
Well, location isn't really the issue, it's the oils! Saturated fats like coconut and palm saponify much harder and faster than unsaturated fats :)

Lye solution is caustic. Your mask is for particulates. So, I'm confused.

Ideally you'd want a respirator, but any mask is better than none. Most hobby soap makers don't use a mask and just stand downwind!

Palm kernel oil is like coconut oil and saponifies very hot! They can volcano if made too hot. I'm not sure what you mean by 40% lye discount. You may want to check out my soap formulation playlist for clarification to ensure you're using a correct and safe method for devising your soap recipes.

What sort of animal fats do you have? A beef tallow or goat tallow could easily substitute. You would need to run the formula through a soap calculator, to make sure you have the right amount of lye.

I don't know where my comment went but your litsea isn't within the skin safe usage rate. According to the newest IFRA, everything above 3% of the total oil weight is not safe for use on skin

I only used 3% of litsea (3% each litsea and eucalyptus - 6% total).
