While Loona is doing pretty well internationally, they are not performing well at all in Korea. As a Korean living in Korea, this is my first-hand insight on why I believe this is the case.

The whole reason their predebut was promoted so poorly and obscurely is cause of Jaden Jeong. He wanted to create a mysterious group that would be under the radar of the Korean general audience. I don’t think he ever expected them to get big anywhere, all international promotion was due to fans, it just became so big that at one point they had to acknowledge it. I don’t know why Jaden wanted to create a group that would be successful, he tried doing the same thing with lovelyz and that didn’t work out and now he’ll likely do the same to the new boy group he’s working with.

Nah. Don't blame him. He said it but his action proven otherwise, ads and banners everywhere, constant release of songs and mvs, which still considered "promotion material". Like it or not jaden made you stan loona, otherwise they would be even nuguer than wjsn and nugudan with shitty discography and scarce comeback on top of that. Jaden created the concept, the storyline, the songs and god even the girls themselves are jadens choices. He may not perfect but most of your accusations are baseless and without any proof.

Jaden said he wanted a "mysterious and unkown" group. He's only trying to achieve the story he always had in mind (the loonaverse). He tried to work with other groups such as Lovelyz, where the members also had solos if I'm not mistaken. Seems familiar? Yes the Loona members also had solos. He tried with numerous other groups but failed, until Loona. Plus I stated the reason why he left bbc in my first comment. Now he's working with OnlyOneOf who also has a backstory. Seems familiar? As an army who has known bts since 2014, when they were "nugu-ish", and is now also an orbit, I can say that pushing loona out of obscurity is definitely possible; however, it's a team effort between fans and the company itself. I'd say 60% fandom effort and 40% the company making the most out of their resources to make the group accessible to fans. I don't really see much of an issue with international orbits (apart from to trolls and the edgy GG stans who invited themselves in). I can see that we are definitely willing to put on the effort to do the dirty and extra work to promote loona. And I think that orbits have shown themselves as a fandom, willing to act. Like those itunes #1's "365" got? That is a good start. I do think that trying to make peace and link up with Korean orbits (hanbits) helps. But so far, outside armys, I think orbits are the next hard working Kpop fandom. Now, the issue here is blockberry creative. I did say that success is a team effort between fans and companies. While many armys like to claim that they alone catapulted bts to success, I am going to go and argue that it would have been a lot more difficult, had bighit not been resourceful with what little connections and capital they had, and made the most out of what they have to make the group accessible. Like for example, since they were a small company, TV networks and media weren't that interested in bts. So to counter that, bighit made sure to capitalize on social media, which tbh isn't a very expensive venture. They also allowed the boys creative freedom and encouraged them to interact with fans, making them a lot more relatable to fans. I am not saying bighit is the best company, or putting them at the pedestal, but I admire that the company heads had great foresight and knew how to grab opportunies within their disposal. I think this is why many orbits are so loud when it comes to bbc. They needed to step up their game, the moment loona became 0t12. The predebut project was great, but post-debut is another story, and they needed to change their marketing strategy. After jaden jeong left, it appears that they have been going back to the drawing room to switch things up, which is good, but more transparency is needed on the company's part. We need to know their plans for loona and communicate with fans better. And this was were the pitfalls of "la maison" comes in, which is the reason why, many orbits, myself included, haven't forgiven bbc yet. They need to learn how to issue company statements properly. And this is just one of the many issues we have along with loona's relative lack of sns freedom. But yeah, these are just my thoughts. Some orbits might disagree, but I just want to share a piece of my mind, as someone who is also part of a fandom of a Kpop group who managed to break out of relative obscurity.

PREACH!!!! if it wasnt for the hardworking orbits, i woulda never known loona. and it's the same for bts. if someone didnt recommend their album to me, i wouldn't have stanned in 2013. i find that BBC is lacking as a company in every single way except great songs and mv's. they need more comebacks tbh and upload more frequently on vlive/youtube and social media because their content is lacking and how are you supposed to stay in the fandom if they only have a comeback once a year? these days, it's hard to grow a group that only has a mini-album once a year

Absolutely agree. I see many similarities with Army’s and Orbits. There’s no denying Loona have great fandom power and loyalty, but BBC REALLY need to step it up. I’m not sure about their financial status...or really anything about what’s going on behind the scenes, but BBC literally has a blueprint with what BigHit has done. BTS’s fan interaction and creative freedom was, IIRC, kind of unheard of at that time, especially with their core fandom: their western audience. During 2013-2014, not many idol groups used SNS and social media apart from releasing a few statements about comebacks and teasers. BBC has done some questionable things, especially with xxyx, and their not my favorite company by far. But I genuinely want Loona to succeed, so BBC gotta get their shit together.

I hope their company let them do that. Because that's what make the distinction between an amazing artist and a pop star. Those who wins Grammy's and those who top the charts. Actually bts were already charting really well in Korean, 2 yrs into bts's career in 2015 they had pouts old all of the big 3 combined in album sales. Bts were actually very popular in Korea it was just that because at that big 3 companies completely dominated the media and everything they habitually blocked out achievements that Bts made even till 2017 that's why the Korean gp did not understand the gravity what Bts were achieving. Bts in 2014 had already started chatting on the billboard charts, they were the most popular artist in 2014 in kcon because people went crazy for them. Bts were always acheiveing milestones whether in the west or korea and Japan but because of the heavy media blockage against them they were not appreciated by the gp. Loona and Bts are completely different.

I remind myself that Mamamoo grew much faster in popularity internationally before Koreans realized how good they were. Similar to LOONA, I was onboard with Mamamoo from the very start (spring 2014 pre-debut) and even by their 3rd or 4th comeback I was hitting my head with my shoe wondering why they weren't taking Korea by storm. But as Mamamoo has become a top girl group even in Korea, I think Koreans will come around to LOONA. Koreans like winning horses, so they want proof before they go all-in. And while int'l fans will be asking "what took you so long?", Koreans will be happy to reclaim them.

The same happened not only with BTS and Oh My Girl, as mentioned in comments before mine, but it also happened to MAMAMOO back when they debuted. First, there was the fact that they were from a small company and debuted at the same time GFRIEND from SMTown debuted, which eclipsed Mamamoo and left them in the dark... In fact, Solar had to go to realities shows for the sake of saving her band from disbanding and it wasn't until they participated in the TV Show "My Immortal Song" when they really started to kick off and hit it in Korea, meanwhile they were famous internationally. It took until 2017 when they reach no.1 in the billboard charts of Korea. So yeah, as someone else said here, it's an effort between fans and the company, and it is also a slow and steady process which need to be done for LOONA, a band which I personally love 💕 because of its uniqueness of their concept and members (which happened to me before with BTS and Mamamoo). So let's keep calm Orbits and keep loving LOONA #StanLOONA

If loona continues in the track they’re in right now, they will get very popular. So what comeback definitely boosted their popularity, even though it may not be enough to make them known to the general audience. But it seems that if Blockberry could put in a little more effort into advertising and keep up the quality of each comeback, that loona could definitely become a staple name in the genre in due time. As long as there popularity grows each comeback, even if it isn’t by a lot, then slowly they’ll be able to make a name for themselves.

If they had promoted every solo debut on music shows it'd been a whole other story, however their debut also kind of crippled them, let me explain: it was ridiculously expensive, despite their good funding it was too risky and the return of inversion depended on them becoming monsters rookies which they didn't, they're not flops but they're far from best sellers and that would be an amazing development if not for the immense debt they have

I also think part of it that the general Korean public isn't looking for a person but a musical personality? I don't know how to put it, like yeah I might see abc123 has a popular song and I might listen to and enjoy the song but I'm not going to become a Stan, like uh... I guess what I'm saying that's not what most people are looking for in music so if they did like a loona song only for the next comeback to be completely different I don't think they would enjoy it. They listen for the actual music not the people singing it, but that's just how I feel with most Western music so I assume they might be feeling that too.

I honestly feel like Loona stans stop alot of people from wanting to enjoy them. I know for a long time I didn't even want to try stanning or giving loona attention because everytime anyone spoke about anything "Stan Loona" was shoved in my face and it genuinely made me annoyed to the point where I actively avoided their content, which I had literally been following as they released their solo songs in the very beginning. Numbers seemed to be all that western fans gun for when views and shit don't determine a groups worth. Tons of groups have shit views but still work super hard and have strong fanbases without pushing it on people. The more you try to force a group on people the less likely those people are to go out of their way to check them out. And when fans are being crazy towards others it makes a group look bad, similar to how people always say that a kids actions are based on their parents teachings (even if its not the full truth). If you do bad under someone elses name you are spreading the feel that they support or don't care about that type of behavior and invite haters into the space that is for your fandom and place strain on your faves image.

It’s also a shame that they stopped producing the continuity of their loonaverse. People keep saying that ‘So What’ is still connected and basically continuing the “story” but it really isn’t. If anything, they’re probably gonna abandon the loonaverse all together. I love Loona but the quality of their group deteriorates with every comeback. Jaden Jeong was an asshole, there is NO denying that, but he was the mobius strip that held everything together. And with him gone, the loonaverse is just gonna spiral down into oblivion. This coming from an Orbit since Heejin.
