In the last video I wrecked my glass vial. (Stupid me..)
In this video the promised measurements.
At last I'm in the mood for mounting the sensor and magnetic ruler for the Z-axis of my Proxxon mill.

For those interested in the sensor and tape I used, these links: Sensor: Mikronel magnetic reader MRS130 trabiss-metrology.com/en/?s=MLS+130 Magnetic tape: Mikronel b-series 0.001 mm trabiss-metrology.com/en/shop/digital-readouts/magnetic-tape/mikronel-magnetic-tape-b-series/

You finally did it! Congratulations! I'm going to do the same. Need to flat out the rails support for my CNC axes. X is 1500mm, Y1200mm, Z600mm

I made a high precision spirit level, and first tried vertical screw adjustment. It was far too finicky. I then devised a wedge about 3cm long and only 2-3 microns thicker on 1 end to raise and lower one end of the vial. There is a screw and spring to move the wedge. It now takes a full turn or more of the screw to move the bubble a single graduation.

Nice! That was one of the solutions I had in mind. In fact I used it during the tests (see previous video). I ultimately went for this rocker model, because it gives me a slightly larger measuring range than a few microns.

Wonderful as always! The minute “brownian motion” of the bubble in the basement might be due to variations in air pressure rather than physical movement of the vial.

Thank you! Interesting comment! But then there must be very small variations in the air pressure, because as you can see from the vial, there are dozens of vibrations in one recording hour. Maybe one or two millibars up and down... And whether those small pressure variations are sufficient to visibly reduce or enlarge the gas bubble through the glass... I don't think it is very likely. But I can put a microscope on both sides of the bubble, does it indeed get bigger and smaller? Or does it move back and forth... Will do that test in the upcoming week.

I will be very interested to see your results. All I know for certain is that the length of the bubble in my precision level varies substantially as the weather changes.

Impressive as always. What is the brand/model of the sensors you're using on the mill?

What magnetic sensor did you use? it's about the smallest i have seen... it might even fit on my mini lathe

You know a sharpie or permanent marker ink has a thickness of about 3 micron. careful how you mark your plate during these measurements.

Yes, I took that into account. What you see are the remains of the marker ink in the cavities of the scraped surface.
