My name is Esme and this is me so I guess my channel is 'This Esme'.
I make videos about all things horsey such as Vlogs with the ponies, horse care videos and edits of me riding to help other equestrians learn more about these beautiful animals as you never stop learning with horses. :)

I live in California; and even if I’m riding English, like I always do, we use pope and canter interchangeably. Love you!

I ride english too but we typically dont lope but we do have western horses that obviously do both interchangeably

Oh I love this video, as a mainly western rider it’s wonderful to see things like this! One thing is, with these horses you don’t have to hang on to the bit as much as English horses, although it might feel weird, I still have trouble with it. But my western pleasure horse doesn’t like any tension, so to loosen up a bit would be wonderful. But obviously it was such a cool experience and the horse didn’t seem at all bothered by it. Love you!!!

Then do it girl! As a Western rider I wanted to try English for a long time. I finally took the jump and bought an English saddle. Now I love doing both!

No, actually you don’t have to have a halter under the bridle. It’s just a trail thing.

Not everyone rides western with a halter under their bridle. I ride with a halter under the bridle in English as well, it just makes taking up and untacking that much easier for me.

I love that you are doing so many different things. I grew up riding western and as fast as we could. I always take water, lots of water for me and my dogs. I ride where the state has blocked off most of the access to water by the trails for our dogs and horses. I carry a collapsible bucket for the horses with a rope tied to it in case I have to toss it down into a stream I can’t get to. I did endurance so some of the things I pack with me are from the knowledge and experience I gained from that. You mentioned how secure you feel in a western saddle and I find that ironic as the only time I’ve come off horses is when I was riding with a western saddle. I ride an endurance Boz saddle now though my favorite and most secure have been Australian saddles. I appreciate that you told us the different names used between our two countries for example a lope vs canter. Thank you for taking us along on your adventures.

Advice.. For the girth.. Get all of it tied and loped up so then you go and tighten it after instead of during so you can get everything on then tighten so the horse can breathe first

I used to ride Western, I stopped after a bit.. I switched over to English. I've been riding English for awhile now and i'm jumping soon. But Western was REALLY fun! Also love your videos !

OMG Esme how amazing. What an experience. I love Western riding. I ride my Haflinger in a western saddle all the time as im a disabled rider and the western offers so much security. I love watching the zip wiring too looked like great fun. You are so lucky travelling to these lovely places. You could be a tv presenter you are so good xx
