Arwen is Galadriel's granddaughter this is why she tells Aragorn "I have no greater gift to give" as she caresses the "Evenstar" around his neck. Arwen is also known as Undolmiel (Evenstar) so is her necklace. The Evenstar is the planet Venus.

Quite simply the greatest trilogy ever made. From the casting to the costumes to the locations to the music, everything about these films is pure perfection!

Orlando Bloom’s first film role. Insane to think that less than 2 years before he was cast in these films, he had a terrible fall and broke his back. Doctors told him he would probably never walk again, but he proved them wrong.

"Orlando Bloom? I didn't know he was in this!" lmao, this is probably the role he's most known for, really put him on the map in Hollywood right before the Pirates movies.

So, now imagine it's 2001 and you go to the cinema together and experience this masterpiece in the cinema. The soundtrack, the images.... These films were made for the big screen and no home cinema can replace this experience. I highly recommend you to see these films in the cinema if you have the chance. Welcome to this beautiful world.

One minor thing that hasn't been mentioned yet (and I'm quite surprised), is the gift that Galadriel gave Gimli - three strands of her hair. There is a huge amount of lore to understand it in its entirety, but I will give you the short, oversimplified version: Long, long ago; there was an elf lord called Faeanor. He was effectively the greatest warrior & smith of all the elves. He actually crafted the items (from what used to be the equivalent of the sun and moon themselves!) that was eventually used to make the Phial of Galadriel (that she gave Frodo). He was proud due to his skill and might, and asked Galadriel - the fairest of all the elves - for three of her hairs, and offered to trade three (out of seven) of these incredible items for those hairs. She rejected him, knowing that he wanted it out of pride. Lots of stuff happened throughout, eventually elves and dwarves relationships soured dramatically - particularly over the balrog in Moria. And now we see Gimli who is at first distrustful of Galadriel by reputation, fall completely in love with her (in the book it was that "he looked suddenly into the heart of an enemy and saw there love and understanding") , and when she asked what gift he would like, he said that there isn't a gift as it was enough just to look upon her. Galadriel bade him state his desire, and he answered that he desired a single strand of her hair, but didn't dare ask for it. That he would set it in crystal as an heirloom to be a sign of friendship between elves and dwarves for all time. She gave him three hairs. Legolas would know this story in whole, and the second cut of him smiling hearing Gimli's gift - despite Gimli not knowing the significance - is a wonderful nod to such a long and emotional story.

1:00:05 It’s long forgotten by this point but Galadriel was literally the first person to be seen in this movie - in the intro when it’s said three rings were given to the Elves, the first face we see is Cate Blanchett raising her ringed hand. She looks a bit less recognizable in that scene and I think few people realize it’s her. But that’s one benefit to the Extended Edition - in the theater release she doesn’t mention her ring.

22 years and several viewings later, and I'm still bawling my eyes out at Boromir's exit from the Fellowship. Truly a masterpiece in storytelling, filmmaking, and music composition.

The songs of lamentation were elvish for Gandalf when they arrived in Lothlórien. So the song you hear is for him: The only excerpt from these songs is "Mithrandir, Mithrandir, O Pilgrim Grey!". This was expanded & set to music by Philippa Boyens & Howard Shore, respectively, for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. It was sung in the said film by Elizabeth Fraser in the track Lothlórien. Notable about this song is that it assumes that the elves of Lothlórien were aware that Gandalf was an incarnate Maia. This is debatable. As well, the lyrics ask "What drove you to leave/That which you loved?". This suggests that Gandalf was well aware that he would fall in Moria. Other debatable verses include the claims that Gandalf was the wisest of the Maiar, and that with him the Flame of Anor would leave the world (assuming that it and he were one, or he was the only wielder of the Flame). I was OBSESSED with LOTR when I was in HS. I saw the movie in the theater then read the books before Two Towers came out. This movie in particular holds a special place because it was the last movie I saw with my dad before he died. He was a big LOTR fan and was a major influence in my love of the fantasy. And you guys are just adorable. I pretty much binged watched your HP reactions and now you're doing this - I love it :)

Fun fact: in the book the flood that dispersed the black riders was created by Arwen's father, and the form of horses and riders in the water was an aesthetic touch made by Gandalf

So many amazing moments in this movie. One of my favorites is when Boromir comes charging back to save Merry and Pippin. Sean Bean really brought the character to life as a flawed yet ultimately noble hero.

It's a sign of how absolutely amazing these films are that even when you watch the extended editions (this one is nearly three hours long), you're STILL not ready for it to end. I've watched a bunch of reactions to this trilogy and everyone seems to have the same, "Wait, it's over?!" reaction at the end of the first movie.

The books ARE really good. They are taught in some colleges as an entire semester on writing

In the books it was a good 17 years between the time that Bilbo left for Rivendell and Frodo departed with the One Ring. Bilbo and Frodo shared the same birth date, September 22nd, and celebrated their birthdays together. Bilbo was actually an older cousin of Frodo’s, but once Bilbo brought him to Hobbiton to live with him and made him heir of Bag End, Frodo began to look upon him as an uncle. Bag End would have gone to Bilbo’s cousin, Lobelia Sackville-Baggins, but just when she and her husband thought it would come to her, Bilbo brings Frodo to live with him and makes him his heir. Frodo was only 33 years old, which is the age that most hobbits come of age, when the big birthday party took place. The other hobbits were not even present at that time, or they were very small hobbit children, not mentioned at all in the book until after Bilbo had gone and Frodo was older. It was over a period of almost another 20 years that Merry, Pippin and Sam grew older and became close with Frodo. Frodo was 50 years old when they set off on the journey to destroy the One Ring. He waited until he was the same age as Bilbo when Bilbo set off on his adventure with the Dwarves during which he initially encountered Gollum and came in possession of the Ring, a 60-year period of time had elapsed between Bilbo finding the Ring and the birthday party. Merry and Pippin were Frodo’s cousins as well. Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took. Pippin was very young when this quest with the One Ring took place, and Elrond wanted to send both he and Merry back to the Shire, did not want them to go because they were so young, but Gandalf spoke up for them and counseled that maybe this time it was better to place family ahead of others. Samwise was young, too, the son of Hamfast Gamgee, Bilbo’s longtime gardener, and very close to Bilbo and Frodo.

One of the best theater experiences, and hands down the best trilogy ever made. Enjoy the next two films!

Professor Tolkien himself could not come up with a word to describe how much I love this trilogy. Even to say that it's my favourite film of all time is an understatement.

When this movie came out, I didn't want to watch it. I thought I didn't like this kind of film...I was so wrong...everything is amazing in this film: the story, the characters, the dialogues, the landscapes, the acting and the music (best score ever for me!). There is action, love, courage and friendship. I'm so glad to see you like it. This trilogy is a pure masterpiece. I loved your Harry Potter reactions and I knew you would like LOTR. "I don't want it to end" is something most people never thought they'd say after a 3.5 hour long movie until they watch LOTR.

Another key name - Elendil. In the intro he was the older gent who got punted against the rocks by Sauron and killed; Isildur takes up his sword. So Elendil was the original High King of Gondor (and Arnor, a related kingdom in the North), father of Isildur, and distant direct ancestor of Aragorn. The Sword that was Broken is most properly called the Sword of Elendil. There are at least one or two references later in the movies to the “Sword of Elendil”, so that’s why I mention it.

41:50 So that awkward pause is a byproduct of the extended cuts. The DVDs/Blu-Rays were all 2-disc movies and those pauses are when the movie would fade to black and ask you to switch discs. Glad to see you guys liking this movie! Lord of the rings still holds out as one of my top movie trilogies of all time!

Some information for you guys (no spoilers): Aragorn is Isildur's heir (the guy who cut the ring off), but remember that from Isildur's time to the time of the fellowship around 3000 years have passed, so the heritage line there goes a looong, long way, he is like Isildur's great great... grandson or something. Aragorn's ring is the Ring of Barahir (it will be briefly mentioned in the next movie) and it's NOT one of the rings of power, it was a token of friendship in a story long past and passed down as heirloom from his ancestors (in practical terms, it kinda proves that he is the true heir and King of Gondor)

I know some people are surprised by the abrupt ending - it helps to think of the trilogy as one long movie broken into three parts rather than three individual movies. And actually that's the case with the original trilogy of books as well. They're really one long book, not three individual books.

I hope this doesn't sound weird, but I don't think I have ever seen a couple who is so well suited for each other

Why is the cast 20 minutes long? The Lord of the Rings is over 80 years old, and one of the most beloved Books ever written. When Peter Jackson made the movies he made an open offer to every fan to let his or her name get written down, at the end cast. More than twenty thousand people took that one in a life time opportunity. And that's why the cast role is that long

Elrond and gandalf hold the other two elf rings. Gandalf’s is the ring of fire - which is why he likes fireworks - and Elrond has the ring of water - which is why the Ringwraiths didn’t want to go into the water. Gandalf was given the ring of fire by the elf lord celimbor. Galadriel’s ring is the ring of concealment, which is why the elves didnt want the One ring going through lothlorien, because Galadriel conceals lothlorien. Galadriel is Arwen’s grandmother on her mother’s side. Elrond is part human - his father or grandfather was a man. So his line can choose mortality and his brother did, which is important to remember about him. Aragorn’s ring is the ring of the king of Gondor. Boromir was more susceptible to the ring because hes the son of the steward of gondor and as a leader of gondor’s armies he has seen a lot of war against mordor. So he wants power to end that war - the ring preys on good intentions then corrupts them. Aragorn is less susceptible to the ring because hes scared of having power - because of isildur’s failure. Hobbits have no ambitions but food, so are very resilient to the ring. Unless theres something wrong with them. By the way, aragorn is one of the dunedai, a race of men that lives hundreds of years, which is what the men of gondor are. As a ranger he has spent most of his life in rivendell and north of the shire fighting to keep the evil creatures of the witch kingdom of Angmar out of the south and trying to defend the kingdom of arnor, north of the shire. Those watchtowers (one of which is where frodo was stabbed) are part of the ruins of the northern kingdom of the dunedai - the kingdom of arnor, destroyed by angmar and the orcs of the north. The most powerful of the 9 is the witch king of angmar. Aragorn and arwen have been a ‘couple’ for a long time when this story starts.

Oh btw Arwen, the elf, is Steven Tylers daughter Liv. Everyone showed up for these films.

Another set of books you should read. Lol. Cool fact: Christopher Lee (Saruman) was the only person involved with the movies who actually met the author, J.R.R. Tolkien., before he died. Keep in mind that in hobbit years Pippin is a teenager. Hobbits aren't considered adults until they turn 33. They were creating Uruk-Hai. Basically super orcs. That's what they were pulling out of the mud. The Nine/Nazghul/Ringwraiths can go in water. They just don't like to because there's a being that patrols the waters of Middle Earth that doesn't like them. Aragorn/Strider is a descendant of Isildur but there are quite a few generations between them. Sean Astin was also in The Goonies as a kid before playing Rudy and Samwise Gamgee. Poor John Rhys-Davies (Gimli abd Sallah from Indy Jones). He was severely allergic to the prosthetics and his eyes were so swollen that he could barely see while filming all 3 movies...which were all filmed at one time. The long credits contain the names of members of The Tolkien Society fan club. Yes. Gandalf the Grey is dead.

After "directed by Peter Jackson" we had to wait an entire year for the beginning of The Two Towers. This reaction brought me to your channel. And I loved your reaction. Boromir is a much more complicated character than this movie gives the impression he is. It is not greed or power that controls him. The power of the ring can corrupt even the most honorable of individuals, that is why Gandalf and Galadriel struggled to not take the ring when it is offered to them. Boromir is an extremely honorable man, and without the corruption of the ring, he would never have done what he did. He sacrificed his life to pay for his failure with the ring.

All the actors have such an amazing chemistry and their bond is as strong as ever, even now. If you have time, I recommend watching the reunion video that they all did via Zoom, in 2020. It was a delightful watch, so many shared memories and inside jokes between the cast and the director. Loved your reaction guys, got me in my feels again!

It is not one of the nine rings given to men, it's a relic of his lineage, establishing him as Isildur's heir and heir to the throne of Gondor 2) Boromir is the son of Denethor, the actual ruler of Gondor. Since Gondor is right next to Mordor, they have been fighting Mordor for a very long time but Mordor's just toying with Gondor, gaining ground slowly. That causes the people of Gondor to lose hope 'cause they know they're doomed. That's why Boromir wants the Ring : He thinks the Ring will make him powwerful enough to win the war. Also, the ring has the capacity to detect the insecurities of people and use them o its advantage, so, since Bormir first saw the ring, it has been kinda whispering to its ears, telling him he needs it.

18:05 Yes, that is Sean Astin aka Sam (2001), aka Rudy (1993), aka Mikey in The Goonies (1985), aka Bob Newby in Stranger Things (2017) & so on... Rudy came out 8 years before LOTR -Fellowship of the Ring was released. He is a prolific actor who has been making movies since he was about 10 years old. His parents (bio-mother & adopted father) were famous actors too (Patty Duke & John Astin). Many people say that Frodo is the hero of this epic saga, but in my opinion it is Samwise Gamgee! Wait until you see him in action during the third film - brings me to tears every time... 😭

Peter Jackson's vision has to be one of the best film adaptations ever seen. They are so well done that by the end you'll feel every emotion possible.

For the heck of it, we decided to watch the credits to the end at one point. And as they kept rolling and kept rolling and kept rolling, my dad half-jokingly asked, "What did they do, copy out a New Zealand phone book?!" The hilarious thing is...they probably did. Apparently, during production, casting calls went out to the point that anyone six feet and over in the area they were filming were called in as extras. And for the next couple of movies, they were getting anyone probably in the islands who could ride a horse!

Tolkien said the effect of the Ring on its bearer is like that in the Our Father prayer -- "lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil." It draws evil out from inside you and it attracts evil from outside toward you.

Loved your reaction you guys! You both seem like genuine human beings and I’m glad you got into the story as much as you did. You did a better job following the story than a lot of reacters and earned yourself a sub for that. Glad to see where this journey goes as TLOTR is the greatest series of films ever made from a storytelling perspective. The Two Towers is my personal favorite of the three films.

Gaaaah that high, clear note that sings out after Gandalf falls in Moria and the fellowship is in shock and horror... Pippin so inconsolable because he disturbed the dark, Sam shattered into pieces because his heart is so soft and he's never known such loss, and then Frodo's quiet, deep grief for his choice to go through Moria all as the music continues to eulogize and lament for Gandalf-- BREAKS ME LIKE GLASS. But then, at the end when Frodo remembers what Gandalf says--not only is it powerful character-driven storytelling... Gandalf is looking right through my soul when he says it. AND immediately I feel as though I am Frodo in my own life with my own evil to defeat and my own choices to make. Nothing hits me quite like these movies do.

Gotta love that intro tbh. Probably the best intro to a story that has ever been made. It really does hook you immediately.

The strange look from Legolas when he sees Boromir die, is because Elves are immortal. It is such a strange thing to them when men die.

A no spoiler mini-explanation to help fully appreciate The Lord of the Rings. The author is JRR Tolkien, who was an Oxford professor, a linguist and historian. He literally spent his entire life creating the world of Middle-earth. His purpose was to write a mythology history for England, including a creation story inspired by his devout Catholic faith. The languages heard in the movie were created, completely, by Tolkien. Several dialects of Elvish, the dwarf language, and the Black Speech of Mordor. In Tolkien’s world, Eru Ilúvatar is the Creator. Aiding in fulfilling his purpose are the Valar (think archangels) and Maia (angels). Some (not all) of the Valar and Maia have significant roles through the ages. Also, a few Valar and Maia are evil. The events in LOTR take place in the Third Age, with the forging of the great rings and battle seen in the prologue occurring in the Second Age. Sauron, the Dark Lord, is a Maia. Gandalf and Saruman are also Maia, and they (along with three others) were sent by Eru Ilúvatar to Middle-earth to aid in the fight against Sauron. They are called the Istari, or Wizards. Their magical powers are limited but they are still very powerful, and the “old man” appearance was to appeal as wise men but does not directly translate to being aged as they are literally ageless beings. They were sent to guide, instruct, and impart wisdom, not to be warriors or solve problems. Incidentally, the Balrog is also a Maia (one of the evil ones), hence why Gandalf had to confront it. Elves are immortal. They can be killed in battle, but their souls return to Valinor (the Undying Lands), the dwelling place of the Valar, and are given a new body. Valinor is separated from Middle-earth, reachable only by ships built by the elves at the Grey Havens. You will often see some calling it "heaven" as a simplistic way to describe it, but this is wrong. Valinor is called the Undying Lands because immortal flesh-and-blood beings dwell there in harmony with the Valar, who are spirit beings with a bodily form. Valinor is not an after-death spirit realm like heaven. There have been only two other elf and human unions, so Arwen and Aragorn are very unique. In all cases, the elf maiden had to choose mortality to be with the human man she loved. This is a BIG deal, just keep that in mind. Lord Elrond of Rivendell is the child of one such union. He was also faced with a choice, deciding to be an elf. His twin brother, Elros, chose to be human, becoming the King of Númenor. Directly from his line came Elendil and Isildur, and then much later Aragorn. Side note: The vial of starlight that Galadriel gave to Frodo is captured light from the star of Earendil (very long story told in The Silmarillion) who was a half-elf and the father of Elrond and Elros. Galadriel is by far the most powerful elf in Middle-earth, and she is wholly good and wise. She was born in Valinor in a time before the sun and moon were created, so is easily 9 thousand years old, probably much more. She is the keeper of Nenya, one of the three elven rings. It doesn’t come into the movies, but the other two rings are kept by Elrond and Gandalf, who was given his by Cirdan, Lord of the Grey Havens. The daughter of Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn married Elrond, so Arwen is her granddaughter. Legolas is an Elven prince, the son of an Elven king from another realm which does not play into this story but does in The Hobbit. He has known Gandalf and Aragorn for a very long time. Elves and Dwarves have thousands of years of bad blood between the races, hence Gimli and Legolas not liking each other in the beginning. I’ll end with the Hobbits. They live normally as long as humans, so Bilbo (who comes from a line of long-lived Hobbits) is old by Hobbit standards but not beyond possibility. What makes him different is that he has barely aged. Samwise Gamgee is Frodo and Bilbo’s gardener, so technically he works for the wealthy, upperclass Bagginses, hence the occasional “Mr. Frodo.” There is a slight class structure, as was common in England during Tolkien’s life. Merry (Meriadoc Brandybuck) and Pippin (Peregrin Took) are distantly related to Frodo, and are much younger. Pippin is barely out of his “tweens” which is why he tends to be the most foolish. Give him time! Great reaction! You will LOVE this wonderful ride. The next two movies get better and better. And speaking as a Tolkien fan for close to 50 years, what Peter Jackson et al did with these 3 movies is a true masterpiece in every conceivable way. While there was much left out due to time (believe it or not), and obviously changes in pacing and so on must be made when adapting to cinema, the movie barely strays from the novel by Tolkien.

MUCH deeper lore version with added details for you: just in case you or anyone else missed it. Galadriel's gift to Gimli has deeper meaning behind it, like most things in this movie & reflects the expanded lore of the middle earth universe. Galadriel is one of the 2-3 most powerful & wise elves remaining in Middle Earth since the time the land was young. She was born in a place called Valinor, or the Undying land... which is basically the place of residence of the Valar, the local pantheon, the local "gods" as you may call them. Back then, the world was not illuminated by the sun, the moon and the stars, but rather by 2 trees of gold and silver, Telperion and Laurëlin that lit the world before the sun & moon were born from their last flower and fruit as they were basically killed by Melkor. It is said that Galadriel's hair had somehow captured some of the shine of those two trees. Her uncle Fëanor, who was a great king of the Elven people & also arguably their greatest craftsman to ever live, asked/demanded that she give him a lock of hair, so that he could use it to fashion 3 gems that would shine of the same light as the trees. Sensing his pride & a shadow that wasn’t exactly belonging to him brewing from within, she refused his request 3 times. He stopped asking and made the gems anyway, managing to complete the task he had set for himself even without her hair. Around these 3 gems, the possession of which became the driving force for many of the great events in the world, entire wars that lasted for centuries exploded, and other events. The gems actively shaped the fate of the races of middle earth to the point that the aforementioned Valar got involved directly. During these times, events surrounding the gems brought about the traditional enmity between Dwarves and Elves... the same enmity that Gimli still feels towards them. That enmity however does not survive his encounter with the wise Galadriel, whom Gimli basically falls platonically in love with. By giving him 3 of her hair, Galadriel is opening a door, offering an olive branch that might one day close the gap that divides these two races. Legolas, himself being an Elven prince and centuries old, knows of the story through his father Thranduil and grandfather Oropher, as it shaped the lives of all Elves, and his subtle smile is possibly the first act of acknowledgment and reconciliation. it is also a way for Peter Jackson, the director of the film, to give a nod to all of the fans who know these facts and backstories... a way to make us feel seen, and to make us appreciate just how deeply the makers of the film respect the books and larger universe created by Tolkien. The thing with the hair may seem weird, but there is a significance to it in real life as well as in the lore of the story. In real life, it was not uncommon for wives, fiancés, or even girlfriends to give their men (who were going off to war), a lock of their hair as a keepsake, particularly in WWI, which Tolkien fought in. The lore part of it comes into play in The Silmarillion, Tolkien's tales of the creation of Arda, the Undying Lands of Valinor, and Middle Earth. Galadriel is many, many thousands of years old, & was born in Valinor before the sun & moon were even created. At the time, the world was lit by two trees, one gold and one silver which would shine at different times from each other, but would shine together once a day when one would fade and the other brighten. Galadriel's hair was said to look like the light of the mingled light from the two trees, which may have inspired Feanor, a master craftsman and heir to the high king of the Noldor, to craft the Silmaril's which were three jewels that captured the light of the two trees, one golden light, one silver light, & one co-mingled light. Fëanor had a bit of a thing for Galadriel and begged her for her hair three different times, which she rejected because she could perceive the inner darkness of his heart and rejected him, which made them "un-friends" after that. There is a lot more to the lore than that, so this is the super crib-notes version. But the point is, it was VERY significant that she granted Gimli three of her hairs to a dwarf, when she would not to the son of her king many 10s of thousands of years ago of which she is related to all three kings who were brothers and Elu Thingol of Doriath was one of the brothers that didn’t stay in Valinor even though he was one of the elven ambassadors along with his three brothers and that king I mentioned was VERY close friends with Thingol) ever wondered how old Galadriel is during the War of the Ring? I have looked in many different sources and depending on where you look, she’s anywhere from 17,000-20,000 years old. 6,000 seems too young as it would make her close in age to Elrond, who I know is much younger than her even though he’s 6000-8000 by the third age, which wouldn’t make sense for her at all even if she was (“690 years older” as some kept repeating on the internet making 6960!)As she was around long before Elrond was even born and time was experience differently to say the LEAST as there is a lot to go into on that subject lol.) She was born during the Years of the Trees & back then the years were something like 9X longer than a solar year so I understand the math is hard, especially since she isn’t given an exact birth year. But it is said that Finarfin, her father, was born in Y.T. 1230, so I would assume she was born sometime within 1000 years of then (being generous). Basically, I’m wondering what the most accurate range is for her age during the events of Lord of the Rings. I’ll also add that Galadriel is was around before the ents even existed (of which Treebeard is 15,000 years old so she’s OLDER than Treebeard/Fangorn) or very close to when they were “created” by Yavannah and probably had much knowledge to do with such things and or direct knowledge of what happened. Probably through an early prototype of her mirror or simply another dream that made her long for middle earth all over again ontop of the yearning she already had to go there and explore. Nothing to do with Fëanor’s oath and all that jazz. Just going from the Appendices (and maybe Silmarillion) she would have to be at least 9000+ years older than Elrond, Elrond was born near the end of the First Age, Galadriel was adult before the destruction of the Trees. Actually, more than that: I just checked, and the Second Age ended in SA 3441. So an elf born literally at the end of the First Age (FA 590) is 3441+3018 = 6459 years old when Frodo leaves for Rivendell. Elrond was born in FA 532, so adds 58 years to get 6517. Elves are mature at 100, so Galadriel adds at leas 632 to Elrond's age, to be at least 7149, and possibly quite a bit more (as attested by other comments.) One fic had Maglor(Elrond’s Adoptive Father, Maedhros was also adoptive father alongside Maglor, they were the eldest sons of Fëanor) - One fic had as much older than Galadriel; I wondered how we knew, and it was pointed out to me that Maglor was the second oldest son of the first son of Finwë, while Galadriel is the youngest child of the third son of Finwë. So, yeah. Note that the second age was the LONGEST and again time was experienced very differently back then too aside from the internal clock of elves working very differently, she’s definitely older as far as the world and the other beings that age far faster around her. I also remind you all that she’s older than the sun and the moon and witnessed and most likely even helped in the Valar’s crafting of the last fruit and flower of the two trees of Valinor. She was the most involved with learning everything possible from them. She’s 25th generation from Tata one of the elven forefathers to wake to the stars. Their birth was rather shrouded in mist. Only those of her grandfathers ilk have a chance of knowing the origins a bit better as they are closer to that culture that stemmed from the beginning. The Years of the Trees were the second of the three great time periods in Arda that followed the Years of the Lamps and preceded the Years of the Sun. They were known to be comprised of several Ages and lasted in total around 1500 Valian Years or 14,373 solar years. Time flowed differently back then and time flowed differently within them too for the elves live as long as the world does. Epic hey?❤❤ The Dúnedain said that Galadriel’s height was two rangar, or "man-high" - some 6 feet 4 inches (193 cm). However, Galadriel's most striking feature was her beautiful long silver-golden hair. The Elves of Tirion said it captured the radiance of the Two Trees Laurelin and Telperion themselves. Galadriel was said to be the tallest female in Middle Earth, at 6'4”. But then Thingol was the tallest elf ever to live, and he's estimated to be almost 9' (274 cm) Thingol was also a very very prominent figure within the Silmarillion and other books. He’s the great ancestor of Elrond+Arwen and through Aragorn being directly but distantly related to Elronds Twin Brother Elros it makes him loosely connected to Thingol as well. Let’s just say he died a tragic death long long ago. I’m a continent that doesn’t exist anymore. The events I spoke of in my earlier story of Elrond about his fathers deeds, which lead to the Valar helping with putting a Stop to Morgoth for good so to say and that War Of Wrath lasted 80 years straight and it left the landmass torn asunder from the clash of gods and the holy host of Vanyar elves that were closest to the Valar than all other elves so you can imagine what a bunch of mighty elves men and Maiar fighting a bunch of fowl creatures and beings for 80 years would do to a continent. It all fell into the sea. Galadriel barely made it over the mountain before that part of the story officially broke out.

I read these books for the first time in the late 1960s when I was 13 and have worn through many many copies over the years -- I never believed that they could ever be able to put them in movie form because of how intricate and deep and epic the story line is -- The books are difficult to read and so full of every descriptive detail that I knew just how everyone should look and speak and how the music would be one of the most important details --- Peter Jackson and Co did an amazing job and although they had to change some of the story they did an AMAZING job -- Haaa I picked up a magazine one day at work and saw a photo of Elijah Wood and before I even read a word of the article I knew he was Frodo -- Can you imagine we had to wait a year (or more) before The Two Towers came back to the screen? -- cant wait till your next visit to Middle Earth

All three Lord of the Rings films are a work of art.

14:20 - no one knew that Bilbo had the ring all this time. There isn't a war for the ring just yet. As stated in the opening narrative all knowledge of the ring disappeared into myth & legend. No one knew that Gollum had the ring until Bilbo found it during his adventures with the dwarves in The Hobbit. The nine black riders, called The Nazgul (Sauron's minions) left the evil city of Minas Morgul once they heard Gollum yell out "Shire & Baggins" while being tortured. Gandalf suspected that Bilbo's ring was the One Ring. That's why he left Frodo to keep it safely hidden while he went to Gondor to look up the old written history about Isildur & the ring of power.

One of the reasons these movies are so good is that the source material is so good, and the director, Peter Jackson, is a fan and wanted to create the movies to be as true to the books as possible. As with any adaptation there are differences, like omissions and additions. The books are considered to be the foundation of modern fantasy, and have influenced countless authors. By the way, the trilogy was filmed in New Zealand, which accounts for the beautiful scenery, and all of the sets, costumes, armor, weapons, and prosthetics were created for the films.

1:08:48 When that 6'4" actor/stunt guy punches Aragorn/Viggo Mortensen, he really connected. A nice clean punch to the jaw and Viggo took it. The stunt guy couldn't see much because of all the prosthetic makeup. You can see Viggo Mortensen was dazed when he picked him up by the scruff of the neck, and he connected again with that headbutt. That sound Viggo made from the headbutt was not acting. Edited to correct couple of spelling mistakes plus a time stamp for those who are interested.

Enjoyed your reactions! You mentioned maybe reading the book. I really recommend the book, although not everyone enjoys Tolkien's style. Understand that LOTR was not written as a trilogy; it was a long epic fiction, and was only published in three volumes because of economic conditions in Britain after World War II. If you read the book, start with The Hobbit; it tells the adventures of the younger Bilbo Baggins and how he found the Ring. The Hobbit was written as a children's story and is an easier read than LOTR. I always picture the Narrator (Bilbo himself?) reading The Hobbit to a circle of young Hobbits sitting around the fire; then, after the children are sent off to bed and the fire has died down a little, the Narrator brings down the three volumes of the Red Book of Westmarch, and the main story begins. It is a wonderful story to read aloud; the names and places just roll off the tongue. (Tolkien has included a pronunciation guide as one of many Appendices at the end of ROTK.) Peter Jackson & Co. took the book and made it into three excellent movies, but their movies differ in substantial ways from Tolkien's story, in the interest of making enjoyable viewing experiences. For example, the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen barely makes it into the book; Tolkien could never work their story into the main narrative in a way that satisfied him, so he relegated them to another Appendix. It's a beautiful story, and it's a shame Tolkien left it out; I think Peter Jackson & Co.'s version works very well. I have read LOTR at least once a year since I first discovered it as a college freshman in 1965.

Just stumbled across this by chance. I adore the books, movies, lore and life of LOTR, and rarely do I see people get the themes, and have a understanding of the intent of characters, and their interactions together. This was a pleasant surprise, and I cannot wait for the rest.

Its funny when reactors see how long the movies are and especially watching the extended cuts and so they go in just knowing it will be long.... and when it ends they want more... hahaha! Such an amazing series!!!

One thing I would love to be able to do, is experiencing this trilogy for the first time once again. Truly a masterpiece, and in my book I don't think I'll ever see a movie that will "become a part of me" and live with me like this one. Lost count on how many times I've watched the full trilogy now. You're in for a ride to say the least.

The ring Aragorn wears is much older than the One Ring, and not connected to it in any way. It is the Ring of Barahir, given by King Finrod Felagund of the elves to the man Barahir in the First Age. It was passed down through Barahir’s descendents, through the kings of Numenor, to Aragorn. It has no actual power, it is a symbol of the ancient legacy of friendship between Elves and Men.

Besides Boromir's sacrifice (plus the other hidden bits that show how awesome he is) which is shown, there's something from the book that I wish they had kept in: *"The dark figure streaming with fire raced towards them. The orcs yelled and poured over the stone gangways. Then Boromir raised his horn and blew. Loud the challenge rang and bellowed, like the shout of many throats under the cavernous roof. For a moment the orcs quailed and the fiery shadow halted. Then the echoes died as suddenly as a flame blown out by a dark wind, and the enemy advanced again."* Let me reiterate: Boromir blew a blast from the Horn of Gondor so loudly & powerfully it made a literal demon go *O.O*

It's so funny you guys asked does it end now at the announcement of the fellowship. First time I introduced my fiancé to this, at the exact same point she started clapping and I looked over in confusion. "That's it right? The movie's over?" Oh no... Great reaction btw! Love your guys' energy.

About the three rings for elves. One as u saw is in the hands of Galadriel, the second is a possesion of Elrond and the third originally was made for Cirdan, who is a character from the books and is not protrayed on films. Cirdan's ring is now for Gandalf, gave it to him when he arrived to the Middle Earth. Also you can see the powers of elven rings around them, for example around Rivendel, Lorien forest or the influence Gandalf can have on living creatures by encouranging them.

Made me laugh out loud when she imitated the ringwraiths “Baggins...Shire...” 🤣 It’s so fun to experience these again with those who haven’t seen them yet; you pay great attention!

I was pleasantly surprised to see another video today! I'm happy you're sharing your journey through Middle Earth with us. There aren't many reacters who get so into a movie that it becomes so immersive as we watch you react to certain scenes that some of us just gloss over. That 42:05 pause is where the first disc of the dvd/blu ray would stop and you would switch discs. Streaming has it all together but I never seen the pause be that long.

So Tolkein wrote this as one book The Lord of the rings. But the publisher thought it was to long for kids so they made him break it up. That's why the movies end that way. Also I know you've seen the Indiana Jones movies Gimili is in two of those. Having a blast "rewatcing" with y'all

I grew up in New Zealand (about 30min drive from where 'The Shire' or Hobbiton was filmed) and remember looking forward to going to watch this in the cinema.. it was a huge deal as it really put NZ on the map in many ways..
