Steely dan got 100 thousand something dollars and publishing rights to allow them to use the sample and that payment was up front too but that song single was a massive hit so everyone made out financial wise for the song.

Those “white men” wrote the song though. They barely crafted anything, they just sped it up. I can understand the case of sampling, and that can be a form of art. That doesn’t apply here. Steely Dan deserves every penny.
