Lorde - Fallen Fruit (Lyrics)
To the ones who came before us-
All the golden ones who were lifted on a wing
We had no idea the dreams we had were far too big
Far too big
And we will walk together
Psychedelic garlands in our hair
Through the halls of splendour where the apple trees all grew
You’ll leave us dancing on the fallen fruit

From the Nissan to the Phantom to the plane
We’ll disappear in the cover of the rain
Took the great minds and the vapers
And a pocketful of seed
It’s time for us to leave
And we will walk together
Psychedelic garlands in our hair
But how can I love what I know I am gonna lose?
Don’t make me choose

I actually think you are wrong. This is still a growing up album, even more than that, it’s about maturing and understanding personal evolution as something quintessential of the human species, seeing the world with a new perspective as you age and try to connect to it as long as you can. “O, was enlightenment found? No, but I'm trying Taking it one year at a time” Oceanic Feeling - Lorde

She's digging 70s hippie culture in 2022. Everyone knows that didn't work, and not gonna happen again. We're over it 40 years ago. That's why people are disappointed with this new album. None of her messages are relatable nor really matter in 2022. She's basically roleplaying hippie with the money she earned from her previous albums. Unlike her, most people have to work 40 hours a week to pay the bills. I mean, If I had several millions, I surely will go hippie too.

I think Solar Power was just a very disappointing album because it didn’t live up to Lorde’s past work. She set the standard too high for herself with Melodrama, and Solar Power didn’t come close to meeting that standard in terms of overall sound and songwriting. It also doesn’t help that fans waited over four years for this album to come out only for it to be extremely disappointing since it doesn’t seem to be of very good quality as would an album that’s been worked on for 4+ years would.

How is no one talking about the skill that went into the production of this music video. It's an absolutely masterpiece. All these _FLAWLESS_ cuts from utopia to dystopia are insane. Also the close-ups you get of Lorde during day and night are quite beguiling. In the day light she seems very modelished and a bit posey even? At night time she's expressing a vulnerability- perhaps representing our arrogance to mother nature and the result of how one day she'll break our hearts.

The little details, the trash on the ground being picked up from the Solar Power MV, the feather fans left behind by the girls from Mood Ring, the peach pits left behind, the psychedelic mushrooms on her head, and finally how Ella is the one who has to stay on the island but Lorde gets to leave in a G-Wagon. @@MarinaAndTheDevil she’s not stuck. She is just there having a good time as others are having around her. She doest’t need to escape, hence for lorde there is a car waiting but for ella the beach is clear. Actually this symbolises the lyrics of Oceanic feeling. If you listen to it, its very much ella having a good time by the beach with her family. In that song she is remembering her childhood and reflecting upon her future. The ending is such great commentary on class disparity - when it comes down to it the rich will be comfortably escorted from the insupportable conditions caused by their inherited wealth and greed- while those less fortunate will be left to wither in the fires. Her escaping the dilapidated island in the very thing that fuelled its destruction (a vehicle) is a harrowing and profound image.

She is always so ahead of everything. I would lie if I say I loved green light the moment it was released. It took me months to really appreciate it at its full. Some people only like albums when they have high score numbers. People based their judgment in others opinion’s. For me Solar Power as an album deserved so much more recognition, but it didn’t just because of the “sound”, lyrically it is as powerful as Melodrama. She shows how she’s just starting to realise and honour our mother, Earth, and how it’s so quickly being taken from us. She also shows how she feels guilt for being a celebrity and being able to be whisked away if things ever go bad, the last scene where everyone is running and she is greeted with a plastic water bottle and 4x4 shows she feels guilty the privilege that she hates may have to be utilised in the face of the climate crisis.

@@stickird915 I guess what I mean is, Enya and Clannad sound similar in certain ways, the songs take you into nature. That's what Lorde has intended, I think, so her acoustics sort of coincide with that. As for classic rock, we get more niche, if you've heard Stairway to Heaven, this seems to fit the vibe. As with all art, music is constantly up for interpretation, and that is mine. I'm no professional, just a music enjoyer who likes to juxtapose. :)

This album is a masterpiece, I'm sad that it's been received so poorly. This album will definitely come back around next summer and that's when everyone will revisit it and realize how much Lorde was ahead of her time. The relaxing, stripped back sound this album has is amazingly done and I really appreciate how the minimal production makes this album a very transcedental experience. The simple instrumentals, the bridges, the vocals, and the harmonies, her new sound is so unique and beautiful. However, I can see why not everyone will like it because of how situational and niche it is, especially after a highly produced heartbreak pop album. Amazing artist and one of the best and most unique body of works I've heard in a while. I've never had the perfect beach album until now and Lorde has once again not failed to impress me. The album grows the more you listen which makes it an acquired taste and you can tell how timeless it is because of it. It just resonates with me so much with where I'm at currently and I'm in love. Lorde describes her albums as special pieces of clothes that you only take out of your closet when you need them and I've never seen any other artist interpret their music that way. She is a genius and this album made me a very big fan of her.

I disagree, half of the album feels just uninspired. I've tried many times to like this album by listening to it it different contexts, but it just doesn't hit as much as Melodrama or Pure Heroine. Hopefully her next release will be better though. But I love the first half of Solar Power, it really feels like a proper sequel to Melodrama

Lorde has made it clear that she's criticizing the anthropocene on the album - wellness culture and how it appropriates indigenous practices, for example - and that this MV represents a choice that her character is making. But, am I the only one who interpreted this as Ella commenting on and denouncing colonialism? As someone from South America who's really into studying history, I think there's a lot to unpack from a white person arriving in a beautiful and full of life island in the morning, exploring it (the character in Mood Ring also indulges and profits from the native culture), then leaving gracefully in the night, while everything's destroyed and everyone's desperate to save themselves. Brilliant work.
@xoxogossipgoat21
@xoxogossipgoat21 2 жыл бұрын
Coloniality hasn’t ended though - so the critique of the anthropocene and exploitation/fetishisation of Indigenous cultures is inherently a critique of colonialism, because it proliferates those things. This critique is relevant globally and in NZ especially so - Maori experience higher rates of imprisonment, poverty etc. though these patterns are reflected in Australia, Canada etc. all colonised nations. Post-colonialism can only be achieved if us European descendants in these lands cede power to First Nations peoples.
@empressoera

Okay, but isn't Lorde being a hypocrate with this album? I mean, she's criticizing all that, but still make her appearence in the governor's ball and release a version of her album in the NZ native people language. That's the low point in this album for me. Lorde says one thing, but doesn't have the courage of doing the thing, change her actions, make her choices towards the end of that exploration of nature and native people and culture.
@idontevenhaveapla7224
@idontevenhaveapla7224 2 жыл бұрын
@@empressoera How? She created that version after seeking the opinion of people working to protect & GROW the language? She also doesn't take the profits from it? As somebody from nz, isn't she in her way trying to respect the native language? I would've agreed with you if she didn't get the approval of people working to protect the language. @@empressoera I think your points are logical, and I admit that I don't know much about New Zealand's politics. But regarding Solar Power's Maori version, she explained in an e-mail that all profits made from that album are being donated to charities that protect the environment and indigenous communities in NZ. At the end of the day, this debate is kind of a paradox because there are native people who think that Lorde is uplifting their voices and empowering their language, but there are also natives who don't look up to celebrities for empowerment and don't really care about her album since their language still suffers with a lot of racism in their country, and both sides are valid.
