I love how The Burning Shores shed some light on how people forged their own opinions on Enduring Victory and Zero Dawn as a whole, it always seemed kinda weird to me that everyone went to the frontlines to fight for a quote on quote 'all saving superweapon' without getting any additional info on the matter
@Mindspectrum
@Mindspectrum 11 ай бұрын
Yes, the context is very helpful. But honestly, I'm not surprised that so many are coming out to fight. There must have come a time when people realized something was wrong and it started with huge, global casualties. Then, when it becomes known that a superweapon is being worked on - a kind of second Manhattan Project - that motivates people. They join in, thinking they can save themselves and their loved ones. If they had been told the truth, most would probably have given up without a fight.

I can honestly say that in all my years of gaming (close to 30 years now), have I ever felt so emotionally invested in a story. HZD is absolutely brilliant and hits so close to home. 😢❤

Whenever Enduring Victory comes up I always remember this quote from Herres: “My only lasting achievement was the extinction of life on Earth. And my one redeeming act - if any - was to delay that extinction by days or weeks by throwing more death at it.” The fact he’ll never know that what he did ensured Zero Dawn’s success is quite sad. It also makes me wonder about others serving in the military that found out the truth and how they were treated by ZD staff if they weren’t as cooperative as Lillian was
@Mindspectrum

In the end, no one found out that Zero Dawn actually worked. Even if contact with Elysium had not been broken, it took 60 years to find the deactivation codes. As a European, I also find it a pity that only the US military is mentioned here. After all, people all over the world joined Enduring Victory and the leadership of other countries must also have been involved. Besides, no one needs to have a guilty conscience about sending people to their deaths when they know that everyone will die anyway. The truth behind Zero Dawn may be kept relatively well secret if everyone thinks it will be a weapons development or the possibility to generate the codes.

Why do you think he will never know? You mean he didn’t live till ZD was activated, but surely understood it was the only way..

Definitely the best original story to hit a videogame in at least the last decade. Finally understanding what the project was in the first game and why we did it was profoundly human and something that I hope our society is mature enough to do should the need one day arise. There is nothing more noble than sacrificing yourself so that others may live.

When Horizon 3 comes out, i would love for Gurella Games to go back to their roots for a bit and do a Killzone esque FPS of the final days of Enduring Victory. Something like Halo Reach, where you know everyone is going to die already, but it's experiancing the journey to get there.

These pics just make me wish I could have a small segment in game where we play as various ppl during enduring victory Like we start as ground foot soldiers then air support then a scientist in zero dawn Maybe even a whistleblower And so on until Gaia goes online It would be so cool

It would be an awesome game but also very depressing because it is a fight you can not win. at least not for yourself. the end will always be that humanity is destroyed and you are dead.

@@IndigoStarI disagree. Halo Reach was a game where you knew Reach would fall in the end. It was a bit of a suprise to have to sacrifice yourself at the end so the Pillar could escape to start Halo CE, but it wasn't depressing. A ZD prequel could be written to be depressing, but it doesn't necessarily have to be. Especially since we know Gaia is completed
@danieltan7344
@danieltan7344 11 ай бұрын
@@eeHMFICIMHO the best way to not make it too depressing is making the last part of the game from the point of the Lillian Barnett. In the end while normal soldiers maybe only know despairs and such, she's the only one outside direct contact with ZD to know the true purpose of Enduring Victory. it could just end when she just barely able to deactivate the broadcast, then the game will just then speed forward to the last part of the Enduring Victory battle at the last and final stronghold of the military, but everytime the soldier we control die, the game will switch the perspective to the scientist hurrying up the final preparation to start the GAIA system, and with every major progress the scientist achieve, we will then go back to other soldier in the stronghold. This will going back and forth several times, and as the remaining soldiers down to one digit count, GAIA system finally functional, giving the players relief that in the end, after knowing ZD, that there is still hope in the future and all the depressing action they had to do from the beginning isn't all for nothing. (Tbf I would apperciate if when they DO actually made this game, everytime the soldier we control die, they would display their name and year born/die, kinda like with the Battlefield 1 introduction, it really gives the impact and realization regarding the war). That last part of the ending will make it more clear how the sacrifice of each person gives the scientist some more time, some more seconds, to be able to finish ZD.

I loved the Aerial Captures. Forbidden West focused less on the Faro Plague and Enduring Victory (which is completely fair, given the respective stories in ZD and FW), but these collectibles were a brutal reminder of the world's horrifying past. Also, Barnett's story gave me Bashar Mati levels of feels. That last datapoint... 😢 Great video as always!!

I'm trying to get to the feeling and have humanity been using Nuclear missiles and EMPs to stop them. EMPs are the only weapons that can actually fry their systems and make them become immobilized for hours And Nukes are the only weapons that can wipe them all out in one blast.
@NadeemAhmed-nv2br
@NadeemAhmed-nv2br 5 ай бұрын
They used emps but the faro robots also used emps to fry thier no automated machinery, it was tit for tat. The robots replication rate was way too high and their quantity was also too high that nukes wouldn't be as effective. Nukes would speed up the destruction of the biosphere giving humanity even less time then they had so be had the contain nuke use. Had they caught the faro plague early on, it would've been worth it but when they found out, it was extinction one way or the other and the biosphere being rebuilt would have to be done regardless so project zero Dawn was given priority. If they had usen all the nuke and the faro plague would've still won but even faster, not giving enough time for zero dawn and a future

The thing about horizon's story is that it's not far from really happening. That is why it is so good. All it would take is a crazy rich egomaniac and an AI advanced enough for it all to become a reality. I just hope that the engineers who are to work on these projects in the future, if it comes to that, are sensible enough to install some kind of backdoor or failsafe.

I love your videos! Thank you so much for the summary of the lore. 🤗 If everyone had been told the truth about Zero Dawn, many would not have fought. Knowing that it was all for "nothing" anyway would have led to demoralization. That's why the propaganda for Enduring Victory was necessary. We learned in HZD that people refused to work on Zero Dawn and chose suicide instead. They chose the quick end rather than fight for the future of humanity. Lillian Barnett understood and chose a future for life. No movie, book, or video game has left me brooding the way Horizon does. I wonder what I would have done and might I even live to see such a similar scenario? In 2065, I would be 80... doable and terrifying. This shows how great the storytelling is and I would so love to know more. When was the point at which people realized that it was not a small incident now, but a global crisis of apocalyptic proportions? There was still obvious fighting going on, so the planet was basically dead. These people had to know what it was all about. At some point, everyone sees that there is no chance to win. So far, all we know is that the organization ran through the U.S. military and that Herres was responsible for Enduring Victory. Yes, the US video game market is the most important one and so again everything refers to the USA. Sure, but the game is so diverse and open, I would have liked to know a bit more about the rest of the world. It is also probable that there were other bunker facilities. In addition, other countries must have been looking for solutions or must have been privy to the operation. Especially since the facilities for Eleuthia were built all over the world. Interestingly, Eleuthia-1 is not in the US, but in China, and a data point from HZD said, they first gained experience with zygotes. So, was Eleuthia-9 actually the last one after they gained the most experience? 🧐

It seems the future of combat in that universe turned into Robots killing Robots which given the Swam's hacking ability are a massive liability. They had to dig up whatever they had left and given how they've likely been fighting on other continents the good stuff would be getting extremely rare. I wouldn't be surprised if they grabbed a Sherman from a tank museum and threw it onto the frontlines if it gave them a chance to take one out.

If I had been in Lillian Barnett's place I would have told Sobek and those men that nothing they had said had changed my mind in the slightest. That I was just going to sit there and let the truth be broadcast. You see I believe fervently that morality is infinitely more important then survival. And I find what Enduring Victory did, the lies and the cover ups, unacceptable and inexcusable. Immoral action should never be taken even if they are necessary. The words I live by are "For every reason there is to lie, there is a better reason to tell the truth." and “Let justice be done, though the world may perish." I imagine Sobeck and those men would have been horrified by my words. But I would have told then they had just better get a move on with Zero Dawn. Because if the price of truth in this case was jeopardizing the future of all Earthly life... then so be it.

@EccentricGentelman 11 ай бұрын
This has nothing to do with ego, or the bigger picture or what is practical. It is about what is true. And truth is not always beneficial, it can sweep away governments, patriotism, religions, beliefs, hope, happiness and ruin our lives. But I believe we must value it above all those other things. I hate this idea that if survival is on the line we should and must throw away our morality to preserve it. If we do the immoral to save the world, what kind of world would we be living in? If being moral cost us our survival them we should do no less then go to our deaths. My statement is not about ego, it is doing what is morally right no matter what practical gains we get from doing otherwise. So it's exactly the opposite of Ted Faro's book. Of course I know Enduring Victory created false hope to to buy crucial time for Zero Dawn. But if being moral and truthful meant jeopardizing the future of all Earthly life then SO BE IT! @@helix19667
