Transcript:
On planet Corneria in the Lylat System, there lived Andross, a brilliant bio-engineer, but his work and mental state suffered in the system's newfound era of peace, so he turned his weapons on Corneria itself. Andross was quickly exiled to the barren planet, Venom, but Andross discovered Venom was home to lizards and monkeys living beneath the surface. Studying their ancient ruins and harnessing their technologies, Andross built an army of bio-mechanical warriors.
As reports of suspicious activity on Venom increased, General Pepper sent the Starfox team to investigate, led by James McCloud, but they were betrayed by Pigma Dengar, one of their own! Only Peppy Hare escaped to warn General Pepper. Andross then declared himself Emperor of the Lylat System and Pepper had no choice but to assemble a new Star Fox Team led by Fox, the son of the missing pilot, James McCloud.
As Fox, pilot the sleek Arwing fighter, you’ll fly the new Gyrowing drone, and joyride in the Landmaster Tank as you battle the evil Star Wolf Team and barrel roll your way to Andross to restore peace in the Lylat System. It may sound like Deja Vu 64, but ain't it great to see Fox McCloud dog fighting disembodied monkey scientists instead of spamming his laser pistol?

If Assault could be rehashed with MORE MISSIONS that would be great! Don't get me wrong, piloting an Arwing and Landmaster is boss but I also like to be on foot too if I want to be!

I really enjoyed Assault. Yeah the camera controls were a bit wonky but I enjoyed it for what it was.

Man I remember back on the N64 during the final boss fight one time when Fox's dad came out no where to help and that was the first time I ever did that, so hype!

The thing is, the Star Fox series, at least from the perspective of Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo, is more of a vehicle test-bed for new technologies Nintendo has developed than a story-focused Star Wars/Trek sci-fi epic they think needs to be told/retold. Star Fox (1993) -- Was Nintendo's first 3D game, and it required its own unique GPU in the Super FX microchip to function on the Super Nintendo. Star Fox 64 (1997) -- Introduced force feedback (a now universal feature for all video game console gamepads) and a contextual and dynamic audio-based (rather than text-based) dialogue playback system. Star Fox Command (2006) -- Used pen-based touchscreen controls as an alternative to the traditional D-Pad/Analog Stick to control the arwing and aim and shoot its cannons. Star Fox Zero (2016) -- Makes use of the WiiU's Touchpad as basically a gunsight for the Arwing's cannons, allowing you to shoot and fly in different directions at the same time. Believe it or not, the art of dynamic gunnery is as old as fighter combat. German pilots in WWI, especially some of their most famous aces, were well-known for using crazy maneuvers such as the half flat spin and hard yaws to shoot at opponents attacking them from behind and the side.

I didn't have a way to save when I had this game.....played those first levels so much, my little sis became a pilot.....true story...her graduation is at the end of the month...The stuff that can happen in few decades. Could not be more proud of her, and it was thanks to this game.

General Pepper didn't form the Star Fox team, because they're not part of the Cornerian army. It was Fox that formed the new team.

***** Ok, that's what I thought. I know that Adventures and Assault were the only true sequels, and that Command was just, well it was a thing. I just find it weird that people were complaining that Zero is a re-tread when the whole series is re-imagining itself constantly.

Ruler3995 Yeah i know, but with SF Zero i find that the TRUE complains should be about the Controls and the lack of Online Multiplayer Dogfights. (That 2-on-1 Multiplayer Clearly doesn't count.)

+Makoto Mikami They could be considered a pmc. which basically is what the US did in Iraq. Plus they are a independent unit with no formal training or previous connection to the military or members of the military in it. So its less complicated to call them a mercenary group then an irregular military unit.

the whole origin story thing went out the window thanks to the plot of assault, yes it was Pixma who betrayed James McCloud, but it was the apparatus that got him in the end.... how I know this? cause the queen starts speaking to Fox using his dad's voice duurrr.

+CiphiorSnake89 Actually, Slippy says in Assault that the aparoid queen was able to draw from the memories of people she had assimilated. So even though she never assimilated James, she was able to use memories from Peppy, Pigma, and General Pepper to use James McCloud's voice.

This isn't Zero's plot... This is the 64 Canon plot-- Zero actually has a number of glaring differences - the big one being that Venom isn't a planet anymore- it's a small planetoid converted into a combination fleet-mooring staging area/teleportation device :|
