THE FIRST TAKE is a KZfaq Channel dedicated to shooting musicians and singers performing in a single take.
Episode 416 showcases the first performance by Loren Allred, who amazed the world with her incredible talents on “Never Enough,” which was featured in the blockbuster musical film The Greatest Showman. She is joined by Nobuo Uematsu, a legendary game music composer known for his contributions to the Final Fantasy series, and his band conTIKI, also taking to THE FIRST TAKE stage for the first time.
Together, they will perform “No Promises to Keep,” the theme song to the global phenomenon game FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH. In the game, Aerith, one of the key protagonists, lends her voice to this track.

Why do I feel like this live version is sadder than the original? It's true that when the music is gentle, we can clearly feel the emotions in each verse. Nobuo Uematsu's appearance was surprising and I really like this mix of him

She uses a whispy head voice a lot more in this version, sounding much more gentle, whereas she belts out more from the start in the game version.

Yeah she's using falsetto a lot more in the chorus rather than belting throughout. I think I sort of prefer this because there is a build up to that higher performance. And then it has a soft repose to end it.

ヒトって長生きできなそうな人に対して長生きしてねって言う傾向があると思います。年齢が若めの人にはあまり言わない。つまり、長生きしてねと言われた際に言われた側が気付かされることは、自分はもう長生きできる確率がもう高くないと言うことかなと思います。そう考えると残酷な言葉かなと。早く元気に育ってねとか言われる方は人は喜ばしいのではないかと考えたりします。

ローレンさんの歌声、植松さんの作曲はもちろん、野島さんが書かれた歌詞もまたすばらしいです。シナリオ上で「エアリスが書いた」というシチュエーションを入れてくださったこと、大変感謝しています。「身を挺してみんなを救ってくれたけれど、エアリス自身は？想いは果たせただろうか。幸せだっただろうか」初代FF7でクラウドを通してずっと思い悩んでいたことですが、歌詞を通して初めて彼女の想いや願いを知ることができました。「明日もまた会いたい」「この手離さないで」「わたしを見つけて」…これを叶えないでどうする。やるせなさと心残りがいつまでもぬぐえません。どうかどうか、お願いします。

エアリスのことが大好きでどうしようもない喪失感を抱えていた子どもの頃の心をすーーっと解かしてくれる名曲で、名作です。こんなに嗚咽するほど泣くなんて…ずっと心にひっかかっていたのだな…と我ながら驚くほどでした…… 聞かないうちにいなくなってしまったエアリスの言葉を27年後にこんな素敵な形で聞くことができるなんて今のこの想いをどう言葉にしたらよいかわりません今後の展開はわかりませんが、どうかこの言葉が、想いがクラウドに届きますように。エアリスが幸せでありますように。素晴らしい曲をありがとうございました…！

初めてローレンさんがNPTKを歌ったのを聞いた際、衝撃をうけ、それ以来この歌の虜になっています。FF７リメイクから入ったのですが、どうしてエアリスがここまで人気があるのかいまいちピンときていませんでした。しかし、この歌を聞いて、彼女の芯の強さ、逃れられない宿命を一人静かに抱いて、本当の想いを表に出せない切なさが伝わってきて今では大好きになりましたこの歌はラブソングとのこと、彼女が心から願っているクラウドとの再会を祈るとともに、クラウドには今度こそ決して手を離さないでほしいです。最高の楽曲と魂の歌声を届けていただきありがとうございました。

The author of the song said that is actually her feelings for all of them, not only cloud but Tifa, Barret, Red, etc. I think with this explanation it's even more meaningful, she loves them all.

We are not saying that other stuff in her life isn't as important. Have you seen the people who just called her Zack's girl? and how she cannot move on from him? We ain't like that. Is just that people dismiss Aerith feelings for Cloud even tho it is an important part of her character and the story as a whole. This song now shows how much she wanted a normal life, to live with her friends and to be with the person she loved that is Cloud.

@@nana-ir5he Well the movie was in cinema back in 2017. The song Never Enough was believed to be sung by the actress the whole time. Nobody knew Loren until last year she finally decided to come out. You should watch British Got Talent 2022 where she revealed herself as the singer of never enough.

My reaction to this song during the pre-release trailers: “It’s alright, I guess. She’s got a great voice.” During Loveless: “OMG! That was amazing! I get it now. I love it.” At the end of the game: 😭😭😭😭😭 And it’s been stuck in my head ever since, which is why I’m here listening over and over.

エアリスのテーマ、大好きで大好きでとても大切な曲だけれど、どうしても悲しい記憶が蘇ってきて辛くて、沢山リピートする事ができなかったけれど、こんな希望がある優しさいっぱいのエアリスの新しいテーマが増えて、本当に感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。どちらのエアリスの曲も、これからもずっとずっと大切にしていきますね。エアリス、次はきっとクラウドと明日も会えますように。

From the official PlayStation blog - March 14 2024: Nobuo Uematsu: “No Promises to Keep” is a love song. I wanted it to exude a sweet feeling, but at the same time, evoke the complex feeling as Aerith confessed her feelings. Loren Allred: I wanted to get to know Aerith well, and I also wanted to depict her relationship with Cloud. So, for me to channel her fragile and pure personality, I needed to change certain elements of my natural vocals to match up with her character.

Go do Tifa's date and say again that Aerith and Cloud is where they're going, considering the most Aerith and Cloud do is hold hands whereas Cloud and Tifa kiss. Aerith and Zack are meant to be as shown at the end of advent children. Yes Aerith likes Cloud, but she also knows Tifa loves him and is being her wingwoman.
