I became a full time abstract artist during the 2020 pandemic. This is the story of my art Journey. In this video, I discuss my Instagram growth strategies 2020 and art business tips that blew up my art business page on Instagram over the last 7 months!! and so many of you have been asking me for tips on how I increased my Instagram growth and wondering how I'm selling my paintings online. Also, asking questions like, am I advertising on Facebook or Instagram, and what's my growth strategy. Well, I heard you, and here are some things that I changed in my art career practice that helped me to gain more Instagram and google organic traffic. The end result is, I now have organic growth driving traffic to my artist website which increased my ability to sell my abstract paintings online.
For those that have asked about how I started my abstract art career, I started this video off by sharing how this all began for me back in 2008 and eventually was able to become a full-time abstract artist. First selling on Etsy and then building my own website through Wix and eventually moving to Shopify.
If you like this video please let me and KZfaq know by giving me a thumbs up and leaving me a comment here. Every little bit helps me to dedicate more time to building this channel for you all and sharing things that I have learned along the way.
AND FYI - lol took me until the end of this video to figure out my mic LOL

Cannot thank you enough for the guidance in this wonderful video. I'll be coming back to this often. Your generous heart and kindness are so refreshing. I have sold some work but often shy away from abstracts (which I love) but then I found you on IG and my mind exploded. I love your art and I said that's it I'm painting abstracts! Then I found your videos and I can't paint fast enough. I'm so appreciative of all your advice and for the first time I feel like I have a solid plan. I like to hide so posting pictures of myself are going to be like pulling teeth but I will go for it. I have been back to painting on and off for 2-3 yrs. I cannot wait to figure out my very own signature style. I know I'm all about abstract art. It just speaks to me. I have always known I was meant to do this but I had a long difficult journey to get here. I'm 58 years old. Much appreciated! Hugs and thanks again. Dawn

So nice to meet you for the first time Lori. I stumbled on your KZfaq channel. It's so ironic because during this pandemic I have discover a side of me that I always wanted to be and never thought I could be. Well I started getting interested in watching KZfaq artists who do abstract, dutch pours etc. I half listened and skipped some steps but could see that I was almost there. Then I went back and paid attention and worked and worked and then joined an ongoing art class and really learning the "deep stuff". I still have so so very much to learn and gain confidence, but it's getting there. I haven't sold anything yet but I have given away quite a bit to friends and family and they are encouraging me to sell my work. I'm loving doing it. It's been great during this pandemic for stress relief. Then I ran across you perfect video today. Thank you so much for sharing your success and all of your helpful tips. That is so kind of you! I subscribed to your channel and will continue to follow you. Stay safe!🙏

Anyway, I am self taught though, but I'm feeling really grateful for it. I also started with drawing, I love making portraits! Omg, thank you Lori, that was sooo valuable and helpful. I just found you and the timing is just right as I'm diving deep with painting. I went back to painting after a long break up with it and was really hesitant to post as I'm still learning a new technique. I was so excited with my first results that I immediately shared them on my social media. People really liked them and a few asked me if I'm going to sell art. I quickly realised that I wasn't prepared for the attention I got, I was just starting with the technique, building my style and preferences, exploring art mediums. And yeah, for some people sharing as you learn is super engaging and a fun and such an authentic way to share your journey, which I highly appreciate. But I discovered that I'm not like that. I can't sell a thing without having a solid foundation of my vibe, style, even without having found out what art supplies work well with that technique. So the first key that you shared really clicked with me in this moment of my journey. For me, it's healthy to first build my signature and technique and then to present it. Some may argue with that and I totally get the other point of view of "share as you learn", but for me it's not working at this point. So, thank you very much for the guidance! 💖🦋✨
@lorimirabelliabstractartist
@lorimirabelliabstractartist 3 жыл бұрын
I think sharing as you learn is important. I mean I'm still learning as well. I would never want to stop learning which is why my work evolves. But I also don't think if you just started to paint you should be showing that to the world. As with any profession you are in you want to present yourself in some sort of way that you have skill and are at least emerging as an artist not just trying your hand at your very first painting. So your signature style doesn't have to be perfected but it should be a good interesting piece of art. I hope that makes sense. lol

You're awesome! I've been working as an artist for approximately 25 years and so much of what you said is the same goals, fears, uncertainties, determination that I had in the beginning. What I have learned over the years is this, what I tell people who say they envy me.... wish they could quit their 9-5 job and become an artist. I tell them I wish I had the mindset to work a 9-5 job, have a definite income every week, punch in at 9, work til 5, and then go enjoy the rest of my day. Paid sick leaves and vacations, 401k's, insurance benefits and others to cover for me when I'm sick or on vacation. As an artist, you not only have to create the artwork yourself, but also purchase supplies, keep track of supply and completed pieces of art inventory, learn to create a professional online presence via many different platforms, answer emails and create mailing lists... run promotions, learn to use a camera, take professional grade photos of all your work, edit photos.... upload photos on all your platforms... packaging sold pieces and get packages shipped out in a timely fashion, design marketing tools like business cards, flyers, discount cards to hand out while out in public.... in other words promote promote promote! AND, seek out venues to sell art through such as art shows, galleries, wholesale to giftshops or sell on consignment, offer commissioned work, fill out applications for shows and galleries and if accepted make damn sure enough inventory is ready in time on top of having enough artwork to keep online sales venues stocked.... load up artist tent, displays and inventory for shows... travel then unload and set up.... work work work the busy show weekends, them immediately after the show closes, pack up and load up my booth and any remaining inventory and drive back home to once again unload the art show stuff. Check emails and if any sales were made online while away at the show and get orders shipped out. Call or email shops and galleries to see how their inventory is doing and get any work they need completed and delivered first.... THEN.... after checking and ordering any needed supplies, start working again creating enough inventory for the next art show. Because I work with natural items I collect off of the beaches and forests where I live, I also have to make sure I have stockpile large enough to get me through the long winter months. Summers I wake at 4 or 5 a.m. and, like you Lori, go in all different directions doing any number of things instead of sitting focused on one project start to finish like I should be doing.... but working for myself, I freely admit, I totally lack self-discipline ... but somehow I always managed to keep up with the inventory. I spend more hours a day though than 8 hours on things art related when i am not actually making the art. I'm horrible at math so I have no clue how many hours I spend per piece, or how much art supply i used per piece... and add in art show entry fees, travel expense, internet and website fees and time online promoting and updating sites.... so... what Im actually getting paid per month is anyones guess and although bills and basic needs are met financially, I do not make enough to set aside a comfortable retirement nest egg. SO... to those who envision artists living some romantic relaxing lifestyle and contemplating quitting their 9-5 and the securities it offers, think real hard about how much time, effort and sacrifice you're willing to invest in making a living making and selling art. One last note.... I wouldn't change a thing about the decisions Ive made and the journey its taken me on in life.

Serendipity that this came up on my KZfaq. I wasn’t even looking at art. No actually for the first time I allowed myself to go on Wikipedia looking at a street artist ( Keith Haring) because I’d seen someone ask a question about fav artists on twitter. I take art for granted. And don’t do it cause I’m too distracted by life: Your video reminds me of when I did a picture of my art teacher and he walked round the room looking at everybody’s and stopped dead at my nd. He was shocked to see himself on the page. You know I’ve never painted. And am about to. So nice to see your journey. If I could make a dollar that’s be great. A living. I haven’t even got to the end of your video and inspiring already. So thanks.

This video is one of the most informative 'how to' videos I have seen on KZfaq. I especially liked the effort you made to inform the viewer of the learning process you went through to get where you are now. So many others will never admit to the missteps they have commited along the way. I have many large paintings, and I am finally ready to start selling my artwork online. This video has been such a big help in that regard. Thank you! (By the way, I love your paintings!)

If you used your name as the domain name and always connect your name to your work it won't matter as you grow, your name will become a search term. People like talking about the artist hanging on their wall. Always sign your work. Then you also have freedom to branch out in styles and mediums!

Lori your explanation of how basic SEO works is great help to artists. You must be careful with some of this. This is 2021 not like 2005 when search engines much simpler. It's important to do some more research about. Some of the things you mentioned are "shortcuts, or tricks, that may have been sufficient to guarantee a high ranking back in the day when the engines’ methods were much less sophisticated. (They might even work now, at least until you’re caught.)" This I snagged from a pro website developer. Important not to get too carried away with SEO and concentrate on making good art! BUT the NOT using a 3rd party for instagram is VERY VERY IMPORTANT!
@lorimirabelliabstractartist
@lorimirabelliabstractartist 3 жыл бұрын
@@adamart-music-crypto2296 There is way more to SEO than naming an image file to get a good ranking lol this is only one step that I shared. I'm not sure what you mean by getting caught? Keyword stuffing in your headings and tags would be an issue that would lower your ranking. File naming isn't that. 😊 In my first video, I emphasized the body of work must come first. Doesn't matter if you are ranked first on google, if you haven't mastered your craft your art will not move. and yes the last thing you would want is insta shutting down your account for a violation.

Hi Lori! Thank you so much for this video with tips for selling art work online. I hope I will be able to refer to it someday soon. When you described how you felt the first time you were going to post one of your paintings online, it brought tears to my eyes because you expressed many of the fears I have. I actually did major in Studio Art in College and began painting at age 12. That year I put three of my paintings up in a local “white elephant sale” and two were sold. I haven’t sold any since. I had a wonderful older brother who was an amazing artist and he bought me a wooden box of art supplies, oil paints, a roll of canvas and stretchers for my 12th birthday. He was my mentor throughout the years, taking me to museums, galleries and art shows. I live in New York City and there is an overwhelming number of art venues and artists. I stopped painting after college because my priorities changed. I got married and raised a family while working at different jobs just to have an income. But now that my youngest children are adults in college, I feel the calling to go back to my art. There’s even a local art league that meets (online since the pandemic started) once a month and has occasional group shows. However, I am extremely insecure and afraid to begin painting let alone showing my work. Firstly, I won’t be painting in oils like I used to because I don’t have a studio and my family is very sensitive to the smells. I am open to acrylics and love the bold colors but it’s like learning to paint all over again. Secondly, I have severe osteoarthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome, so I have chronic pain and sometimes my fingers get numb. It’s a challenge but one I’m willing to take. Thirdly, I have seen such amazing art both in abstract and realism by other artists that it intimidates me and I feel like I will be a failure. However, I want to overcome my fears and get back to painting. I have been battling anxiety and depression for many years and am somewhat familiar with art therapy and believe it would help me. One of the last conversations I had with my dear brother before he passed was about getting back into painting. He told me not to be scared and not to even worry about what I first get on canvas. He said to just begin, even if I paint a copy a well known painting, as long as I start. I find KZfaq a wonderful source of inspiration and advice and very much appreciate your channel. I am so happy for you that you have achieved your goals. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. I look forward to looking at your Instagram page as well. God bless!

Wow Lois, what a wonderful message to wake up to. First, I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your brother, he sounds like he was was a force to be reckoned with it. His words are honestly spot on and couldn't be more true. I can only assume he kept encouraging you because he knew you had it in you. Now with that being said....that doesn't make it any easier for you to step out of your comfort zone. Battling aniexty and depression might mean that taking that first step could be a little bit more challenging, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. Aniexty, in a milder form, has always been a part of my life too. It might help to break things down (goal setting) into smaller segments. Like your brother said, it does not matter what you are putting on to canvas, what matters, is that you put something on to canvas. So just start with that...give yourself permission to be creative just for yourself...Set out how much time you would like to dedicate a week to it and then stick to it. That time can include, watching other's paint on youtube, learning about acrylics, and also practising how to use the mediums yourself. At the end of each week, reevaluate how you felt and decide if the goals should stay the same or be modified. I'll leave you with that....and trust that you will take the next steps on your own...next step beings is to put this little mini plan into action. ❤️ all the best Lori

@@joan-lisa-smith ahhh I lost my comment if I posted this twice my bad. I honestly don't worry about that. I paint large and then stealing a photo from insta, Facebook or my website isn't going to give you a good image. At least not one that I would pay for. Thank you! This is very helpful as I am new at discovering and exploring my gift and love for abstract. Did my first painting last December and was amazed. I can relate to your humble beginnings. Wishing you much success!

Wow! Thank you for this! You really helped narrow things down to the specifics! This cleared up a lot of my little hangups on putting myself and my art online!

Loved this. I just mentioned to someone today that you e posted about the new owners of your work. It’s very touching to me to see the journey. I’m sending the first painting I’ve ever framed this week, and I can’t to see how it looks in its new home. Be well!

Art is an extension of ourselves so for me, there is no greater honour than to have someone purchase a painting and they love it so much that they share a photo of it hung on their walls. So happy for you!! You'll get goosebumps when you see the photo!

Lori, I just came across your video, and I have to say the timing is perfect! It was very helpful. I have only been painting since September 2020. I think I have about 100 paintings. I began this to put art on my walls. We just moved into a new home and there is a lot of wall space. I do fluid abstract art and am so addicted to it I have to do a painting everyday. Not always with a successful outcome. Anyway my family keeps pushing me to put some of my paintings up for sale. I didn't know how to go about it. Then I found your video! Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge.
