"Loser, Baby" is everything great about Hazbin Hotel condensed into a single song. It tackles a dark and truly troubling subject matter of coping with trauma and abuse without sugar coating it and is entirely vulgar, full of insults and swear words to the bone. But it's also a touching and heartwarming song showing that you're never alone in this world despite all the suffering. And it's all done in the style of a nostalgic and magical Disney-esque Broadway musical number.

I do like how it tackles that need for control that you talked about. The two of them call each other and themselves losers, addicts, etc. it’s but in a way that allows them to take that power back. Yes it’s partially about solidarity, and acknowledging that things aren’t ok, which I do like, but it’s that extra little detail of them taking the power back from the words that label them, removing some of the words’ power against them, and giving them a little more Control in their life, that really ties it together for me. Lovely song. Also Husk is now required to sing in every episode. Cat’s got some Sultry Pipes right there

The amount of slander against this episode is insane to me, but also quite understandable. The subject matter is a very heavy one, and can be taken in a lot of bad ways. Honestly though, I think the people getting upset are either people who already don’t like Vivzepop or young fans who have zero sense of media literacy. Of course, SA survivors are the deciding factor, but from what I’ve seen they ended up pretty split on the episode.

As an SA survivor, personally I loved the episode. I relate to angel a lot and between poison and loser, baby, it was just really comforting to me.

I feel like you could've summarised the song much better at the start, especially since a lot of people on Twitter are angry at it for "minimising" or equating Angel's trauma with Husk's, and/or victim blaming. A good summary of the song is that Husk is helping Angel to acknowledge his situation rather than pretend he's fine, and that he has support even though he's damaged.

@@TrueLocalEnthusiast His situation isn't "hopeless" it's just straight up shitty. But the main part is saying that "it wasn't all bad because he wasn't alone." Angel has felt alone up until this point, and we have also seen that people (Charlie) aren't supporting him like they do others (Sir Pent) He has had no emotional support up *until now* and that is the turning point of the song. Also, people who are in situations like these don't really agree to "it wasn't all bad" like yes that may be the objective truth, but the bad overshadows any good moments. (Being in an abusive situation is swinging between good and bad)

@@dragonqueen7328A fair point, when I said his situation was "Hopeless" it's specifically in reference to their point of view (As he sold his soul, there's no taking that back) with his lack of emotional supports partially being a byproduct of him not opening up to anyone, which isn't his fault but still has an effect regardless As for saying "It wasn't all bad" as you said it's the objective truth, which was all that was needed for a quick summary considering I go further in detail in this very same video but overall, fair points

Video essays like this makes me glad that media literacy isn't dying, because the amount of people who completely missed the point of the song and demonizes it is annoying. This song is not just good by the vocals, choreography and visuals but what it means and develops towards Angel and Husk.

I see 'Poison' and 'Loser, Baby' as 2 half of a whole. Poison lets us see just how bad thing truly are for angle. It pretends to be an edgy love song that compares love to a something harmful or dangerous, only to stop pretending at the end and show just how much Angle Dust hates the situation he in. Loser, Baby takes that and gives it the me to talk with out pretending there a silver lining.

Angel wasn't actually one of my favorite characters, and I wasn't really interested in him until episode 4, and then he just became a whole new character for me, and I love every bit of it.

As someone who was raped, and was emotionally manipulated by those around me. Mind you I was 13, I can really relate to Angel Dust, I’ve always been told to shut up about it, or that it was somehow my fault and I’ve become hypersexual as a way to cope.

It’s so good. Love how Husk use this song when the moment Angel went all real on him so he can relate it to his bad deal. Both open up with each other to have solidarity

Angel Dust is a guy. But yeah, frankly I think that this is the best episode because it’s not trying to split the narrative between two things that make the hotel feel diminished. It’s about Angel, his abuser and the two people who try and help him. Frankly, the show feels like it’s meshed the first two seasons into 1. What do I mean? I mean that episodes 2, part of 3, 4 and 5 feel like season 1. Meanwhile, the episodes that deal with the angels feel like season 2.

while watching the ep right before the song on the street the music from inside the clubs start to sound like stressing heartbeats as it gets harder for angel to stay composed while husk was talking to him with angels breakdown and him imploding and finally breaking apart under all the Pressure.

I hope we can get more episodes like 4, offering unexpected backstory and depth to characters leading them to bond more with the staff of the hotel. Dad beat dad juuuuust ever so slightly beats this episode for me but nonetheless a riveting race of emotions from Vivsie n' the team

the people getting upset for this song being one of the best songs of the series. Are people that it's caring a flag that don't belong to them. The song it's showing Angel "It's okay to feel that you feel and you are right to see it that way." But at the same time "You are not alone in this, you have me that I'm in the same boat, and you have Charlie that cares about you a lot even if she don't undestands you. You don't have to pretend with us, you can be the crappy traumatized Angel Dust that sell his sould to an overlord, and we will be there for you no matter what"

Angel has been my favorite cause we share similar traumas though different and I just can't stop telling people how amazingly written episode 4 is and how fantastic angel is. Anyone who thinks the episode is just fetish food literally lacks media literacy skills to a painful extent.

i don’t think people are mad at the fact that they are both acknowledging that their lives are messed up, it’s the fact that the way how it’s poorly executed, cause Angel dust had a legit mental breakdown, and the way how the song starts playing immediately after that feels very condescending. And before anyone says anything about "but they relate on how they both sold their souls" it’s the way HOW they lost their souls. Husk’s situation is not all to bad (or at least not that anyone knows of because Vivzie didn’t elaborate on Husk’s lore at all.) because all he really has to do is not speak out of turn of alastor and he’s fine. meanwhile, angel is stuck in a never ending loop, and constantly in a state of hurt and torture no matter what he does.

The amount of people who missed the point of the song and called it just Husk victim blaming Angel are just nothing more than hating idiots 🤦 What did they want Husk to do? Tell Angel he's amazing? Angel would've immediately rejected that. That's the point of Loser Baby, make the best of your horrible situation.

The moments are amazing but they sacrifice the overarching story for better character moments that flush out the world rather than the characters themselves, am I the only one who thinks that? And what is cannon and not cannon from the pilot? And what is liliths song? (Disclaimer: I’m not trying to be negative, I am just trying to view it from a different perspective and this has me thinking)
