Velvette was a character I did not expect much of, but damn, it exceeded all my expectations.

Honestly, I am just beyond thankful that Velvette actually ended up being her own character. My biggest fear when I saw her pilot design was that she was gonna be another Harley Quinn knock off. But nope, she actually has so much personality and even wit in her she became my favorite of the V's in under 5 minutes. (pluss the witch line is iconic)

A fun detail is her dealing with Zestial, in that once he gave his reasonable and calm response she realized she couldn't get arise out of him like she could carmilla so she shifted her focus back to the target she knew she could needle for answers. Shes very much pushing their buttons to learn what she can get away with, and while she refuses to back off, she does know where to stop pushing when it no longer serves her.

Everyone keeps trying to give Carmilla more and more daughters.

So, not quite about Velvette, but I just want to point out Zestial's single line in Respectless was a masterful response to Velvette trying to get a rise out of him. First, it showed that Zestial wasn't going to play Velvette's game, she wouldn't be able to make him lose his cool. Second, "We can't act without more intelligence" had a masterful double meaning, the surface interpretation obviously referring to them lacking in information to act on, but the subtext being a stab at Velvette's (and the other Vees) intelligence. If she responds to the surface interpretation, then the others in the room who did catch the other meaning would be amused she missed the subtext. If she responded to the subtext, Zestial could play dumb and everyone in the room would get a rise out of her not knowing intelligence referred to information. Look at Zestial and Velvette's expressions before and after that line, Zestial has a extremely smug grin, and Velvette is clearly frustrated. He's got her trapped, he knows it, and she knows it. So Velvette made the right move by backing down and pivoting from attacking Zestial and Carmilla, to completely focusing on Carmilla and ignoring Zestial.

I love how they don't just make her the stereotypical "Instagram girl who's only good for fashion" dumbass, she's smart but prideful and that's why she will be this confident. Also, I've seen complaints about how sudden some character intros are, by having her intro with the other V's be a small part in episode 2 I'd say she's dodged this criticism.

Tbh it makes sense she is the overlord of social medial. She thinks fast, hits when it hurts and gathers the info she needs while leaving her opponents on a ruckus She is basically Regina George. Suppostly a dumb superficial girl, but is intelligent, calculated and knows exactly what she needs to say and when. Not infalible (specially considering her relative innexperience) but if underestinated she will end you while she stages a fashion show and raps about how much you suck. Vox and SPECIALLY Valentino are fortunate to have her, and Carmilla may wanna learn to not underestimate her simply because she seems brash and bratty (she is, but Velvet has dept for a reason)

Perfect encapsulation of the “intelligent, but not wise” distinction often lost on both the youth overestimating their own capabilities, and adults underestimating a youngster’s raw intelligence or new perspective.

I agree fully that this was the perfect way to introduce velvette to us. We understand that she’s got an attitude, that she’s young and ambitious and overconfident, but also the fact that she’s actually got some good points! If we found out we can kill angels, we have a chance of fighting back. She also deduced that Carmilla was the one who killed the angel. Also the fact that she’s super short and is just fearlessly walking all over the table is just really funny and shows how bold she is. She turned the boardroom into her own catwalk.

How exactly did she come up with a sound plan without knowing HOW the angel was killed, though?

this song literally made Velvette my favorite character for now

I absolutely loved how well she was established in the minimal screentime we've seen her. From this song we see she is arrogant, Impatient, and a bit Reckless as she sees herself above the other overlords despite being so young. At the same time, shows us she is ambitious and perceptive being able to see through Carmilla almost instantly. And despite being a bit impatient, she is right in many ways. They're quickly running out of time and need to act sooner rather than later.

The second episode was my favorite, definitely. That's the music I like the most. and also zestial is definitely the coolest character in the series

Her talk of "striking a nerve" shows the real intent of the song from her angle really well. She's using Carmilla's talk about her disrespect as a jumping board to prod her and see what gets the reaction she wants to determine what really happened, and put cracks in her reputation with the rest of the overlords like you mentioned. I also love how she repeatedly mixes in Carmilla's "fancy" language, but only to mock her. Stuff like the core "respectless", "Sorry group attending", and of course the epic final "Do you have a disclosure?" line.

Rrspectless perfectly introduces how velvette is a new overlord, is egotistical because of her quick rise to power, and over confident in her abilities. But it also highlights her intelligence which is one of the reasons she probably rose to power was because of her intelligence. Im sure any of the overlords could paint the room with velvette's or any of the other vees' blood, especially Alastor. But they decided against it out of keeping order rather then causing chaos. However im pretty sure any of the over lords outside of Zestial and Carmilla would of veen fine eith the blood shed.

Respectless and YOU DIDN’T KNOW are the best songs in the series.

Ive loved Velvette/Vox/Lucifer/Zestial's introduction as a character, can't wait to see more of this character going forward!

I loved that not only what she said in the song is interesting but the music itself. Carmilla's parts are more "classical", ballad like and traditional, while Velvette's is trendy pop with rap thrown in. Pitting old vs young in action and song. In the end, Velvette gains the upper hand and leaves Carmilla on the backfoot. Velvette deceives and offends the whole way through. She busts through the door and you are ready to dismiss her, then she shows up with the angel's head, then perceptively attacks Carmilla who was up until this point, running the meeting then runs out when she gets her answer. Best intro.

Velvette gives off the Tactician character archetype too me... most likely not strong in a fight, but sees her value in Insight and Tactics. but those are difficult to prove while being modest, her line "~i'm Respectless? well it's cause no can Respect this" i see this directed at herself. basically saying, if you won't acknowledge her, she won't acknowledge you. if she was quite, no one see her abilities. if talked modestly, she would seem unsure and/or timid. based on her skill set, to be able to use it, she needs to throw her ego and intelligence around, control the conversation and show that she can make you dance to her own beat on a conversional and intellectual level.

I feel like the song showcases Velvette’s values really well, she doesn’t care about tradition or caution and thinks that the other overlords are outdated and falling behind on the times, (which is also why she was able to rank up quicker and thus believes herself superior to them) she values progress and profit without care if how many lives are lost or destroyed

I especially like how it highlights her arrogance when she says "i could eat you lot for breakfast" and the shot stops at Alastor (on the background but still somewhat on center) Who we see just the episode before how easily he handled Vox showing us she is over her head . Like with Zestial before making the correct observation that She does NOT know how the angel died and by who , meaning , if it wasn't an Demon or otherwise something they couldn't use and they tried fighting regardless they would be screwed .

Ever since the pilot i loved Velvette for her design but i was kind of scared couse it seemed like she was going to be somewhat of a pet for the other Vees, more of an accesory than a character of her own. Thats why i love here here so much. Her design is even better than it was and i love the constant chenges she makes to her image, which fits perfectly with a social media centered character. Her voice is amazing and 'respectless' is easily one of my favourite songs in vivzieverse. Her introduction was great and i honestly loved every scene she was on screen. She also seems like she is much more intelligent than the other Vee's. Sure, Vox is smart with tech and Val knows how to manipulate, but she has more practical everyday intelligence. She knows people better and she can easily read them as shown in her song. And i believe that her statement that she is 'the backbone of the vees' isn't just her arrogance, but is actually the case since she seems to be keeping rhe group together. I really like pretty nuch everything about her and right next to Alastor she is by far my favourite character so far

Adding to her perceptiveness is her body language around Zestial during her song, we see her leering at him to see his response, reacting to how he keeps his cool and offers a sound argument, then becomes frustrated and dismissive of him over not being able to get under his skin like she intended. "You lost your relevance!" "We can't act without more intelligence." "Ugh!" Interesting theory about them being related! Can definitely see the resemblance. And I completely agree, a character introduction should do a great job of establishing what they're like, including their personality, interactions with other characters, and how they're perceived by them, and in my humble opinion I feel that Hazbin Hotel has been doing a pretty good job with this so far for a lot of their major characters.

Another great example of just how fucking smart velvette is, is when in the middle of respectless she tried to get a rise out of Zestial when saying he had no more relevance. Obvoiusly, it didn't work and zestial just sung back. In that split second you can see her react with something along the lines of "oh shit he wasn't bothered by that at all." She could IMMEDIATELY tell that zestial would be to hard to snap, so she went right back to pissing carmilla off.

Glad someone decided to talk about the song. It's my personal favorite from the series so far, but it seems to be off of most people's radars.

I absolutely ADORE the way she speaks without fear of being judged by other people around and she basically owns the room whenever she opens her mouth... I hope one day I can be like that

I enjoy these character/ scene analyses. Out of the three V's, Velvette definitely seems the most interesting, at least to me, for the ways in which they could take her character. I never compared Velvette to Alastor before, but I see how it makes sense. In a way She, Alastor, and Charlie are mostly the ones who want to see a big change of the status quo of the world and have the ambition to do so. Something else I wonder is if a demon's influential power also translates to their physical destructive power, kind of a power through belief system. If so, then Velvette's drive could also see her gaining more actual power as well, maybe actually becoming the leader of the V's like she said. Or it could all end up blowing up in her face like you said.

I love how her hair changes unlike some of the other characters

It not only introduced her more properly, but it showed us the other overlords and a bit of their relationships and personalities. Even made Camella and Zestial both seem like pretty decent people aside from their status and career choices.

The biggest thing I picked up was the fact of her being the social media head, a fashionista with no bounds to how perfect she wants something.Her perceptiveness was to be expected from the earlier screen time. Her attitude and want to rise through the ranks quickly as well as her current rise is explained as simply as the internet and social media. It 100% makes sense for her to be paired with Vox, the symbol of television and inter-connectivity. I'm still having issues pairing Valentino in with the group though..

This song, along with every other song in Hazbin, is just on another level to other songs in shows and movies, because it doesn’t slow the show down, it’s necessary to understand what’s going on in the story, while with most other songs in fiction you can omit and still watch without confusion most of the time.

I absolutely love her character, something about her is just different from the other Vs, I feel like she's very independent for some reason.

I love the detail that while Carmilla responses to Velvette's accusations with silence and somewhat anger, Zestial just smiles and says something thats obvious, but he acts like Velvette doesn't know. To Zestial, she's just a kid playing with fire surrounded by much more experienced people and Velvette knows this, thats why she goes back to attacking Carmilla who also sees her as a kid, but also a treath, wich Zestial doesnt.

Velvette, arguably the most Intelligent of the Overlords, as The Social Media master she has one of the greatest forms of power, Knowledge

Was i expecting demon British Wendy? No. Do i love it? Yes! She is now one of my favorite overlords.

Velvette is one of my favorite characters so far, just barely behind Alastor, Emily and Vox. Her demeaner is entertaining and her observant nature and smarts completely subverts that bratty persona that I thought she was gonna have during episode 2.

I suspected she brought the Angel’s head to the overlord meeting just so she could see everyone’s reaction, and gauge who had the means of killing an Angel.

Velvette reslly fits the theme of "old vs new" "tradition vs modernism" in one bundle.

Just 8 episode isn't enough to flesh out all characters so at best, Velvette song feels like a q good pitch for a character but not proper character. Duno how to explain it. Loved the song, hopefully season 2 gets more episodes in it and Velvette actually gets to show her personality because I have a hunch he ain't appearing in S1 finale, maybe she will get tons of attention in finale

Love the song. Didn’t expect to like Velvette as much as I did. I also love how she wants things done quickly, and immediate results, much like her platform of social media. Definitely a fun character that I look forward to seeing in the future!

Honestly, in a strange way, I think if any of the Vees were to break away and actually improve themselves, it'd probably be Velvette, while it is unlikely- She undeniably has a certain backbone to her where, when all the other overlords fall in line with the way things are, she actually speaks out on their hypocrisy, and, while in an objectively aggressive and misguided way, she's one of the only characters to actually express an interest in trying to kill the angels in order liberate hell effectively. Plus, she more so tolerates the other Vees than she does respect or like them. She almost reminds me of a darker more genuinely demonic version of Charlie. We could have a trio of characters each fighting against the hypocrisy of heaven and hell, each trying to make things better but for their own reasons. Emily in heaven with the angels, Velvette in hell with the overlords, and Charlie in the middle, literally being born from the first fallen angel and first "sinner" as the bridge between both. "Why are you avoiding war? That's what the guns you sell are for." Is one of the greatest lines in the show so far. She's clearly not exactly the best, but if Alastor ever....did what Alastor seems to want to do, I could almost see her being the one to back the hotel in his place. With her being the youngest of the overlords seemingly, it would make almost too much sense, as while Vox and Alastor have a rivalry, each representing TV and Radio- Velvette is seemingly the de facto demon of the digital age, which, if the pattern followed, would potentially make her a rival to both, seeking to break free of the old ways, even from the other Vees. It's just a theory though, Hazbin Hotel has so many moving parts right now that it's unlikely to see much more of the Vees in the last few episodes of Season 1, unless they REALLY picked up the pace.

I'm mostly glad a character that claims to be the most important/influential of their group is actually right for once; Val is influential but depends on advertisement, which is spread on Vox's technology but managed by Velvet, who also takes care of fashion, trends and other desirable things for the sinners (like the love potion), she literally represents social media.

This was easily my favorite song so far. Velvette very clearly was acting in the exact way Carmilla described, vaine, innane, lacking respect, and uninformed. But that was all to strike a nerve, to get Carmilla to slip and achieve her real goal of getting to the truth of the matter on why and how the Angel had died. The moment that Carmilla said she was uninformed was the moment she let slip she knew something about the situation that she wasn't sharing, and it was exactly then that Velvette dropped all the braggin, all the media references and all the bullshit to go straight for the throat and call Carmilla out on how she clearly knew something about the Angels death. Pointing out her strange reaction to the severed head, her resistance against going to war despite that being her business, and asking straight up what she has to say for herself. Of all the Vee's Velvette is clearly a sleepr threat, because while Vox has a large presence and Valentino is blatantly abusive, Velvette is smart and connected enough to piece together exactly what Carmilla was hiding within a few minutes.

She was a big highlight of the episode.

honestly from our somewhat omnipotent viewpoint she is kinda right in fighting back against the angels right now and not waiting since Adam and the other angels are planning on targeting those who can challenge them which means if they do decide to wait and don't start fighting now the angels are probably gonna stop them from ever having a chance like this again

from what ive gathered from it she is an all bark and no bite character, using her silver tongue to manipulate and get what she wants, while she has the other Vee's be her 'backbone' in her threats and such

It's interesting that the overlords both are and aren't prominent characters. I mean nobody has ever tried to kill an angel before now even in self defense? But it is ballsy of Velvette to stand up to these overlords who have been in power longer than she's been alive and dead

Honestly, her being Carmilla's estranged third daughter would make sense. In both the song and meeting, the only ones she directly addresses are Zestial (Carmilla's longtime friend) and Carmilla herself and when Velvette enters, Carmilla mostly acts like a mother who's just done with her child's attitude. Also, the line that Carmilla has towards the end of the song, almost seems like she's reminding Velvette of the fact that she warned her being an overlord is hard work and that would explain why Velvette is so arrogant, she's always had her mom, Carmilla, to keep her safe.

I actually have the same headcanon between Carmine and Velvette. It would fit well, and would essencially turn Respectless into a mom arguing with her teenage daughter.

since shes a master of digital media, influencing, and fashion, shes probably skilled at presenting herself differently to achieve different ends. in her scene before this one, she had a more professional no-nonsense vibe, and the hairstyle and dress to match. then here, in a more flashy, bigger get up that screams both 'mob boss' but also 'young and wild', with a differently personality to match. i wonder how much of that show in the overlord meeting was her being more impertinent, disruptive and brash on purpose to unbalance the others, break their facades and observe their reactions.

It's probably my favorite song from episodes 1-4, I'm a fan of complex rhyme schemes, so doing "Respectless" "Suspect is" "Headless" is something I really enjoy. Also, I'm a big fan of Rock / Metal so this hits that instrument selection well. Velvette(sp?) is my favorite antagonist of the Vs, mostly because she's so unapologetic about her views and stance on the current cullings of Hell. She comes off as the Yin to Charlie's Yang where they both want to end the exterminations on Hell, but have MUCH different ways of wanting to go about it. So far, no one else in Hell other than Charlie and Velvette seem to be focusing on the bigger picture, most of the other Overlords simply are using the exterminations as power grabs for their own personal power, and whereas Velvette almost certainly is one for looking out for increasing her own power / status, she also understands that a Queen ruling over nothing is no Queen at all.

Velvette (and by extension, the V's) are my favorite characters. All three of them are so full of life, charm, personality, and that doesn't even scratch the surface to their fantastic character designs and voice acting. They're outright villains but every interaction they have with each other reads like a sitcom. They each have their own distinct personalities while also making up a trifecta of chaos. No single person outshines the other because they are in perfect sync with each other. Vox needs Velvette and Val because you can't have television without media and films. Velvette needs Vox and Val because without them she doesn't have anything to support/showcase in media. Val needs Vox and Velvette because films are (almost) useless without the media representation and public support. They're perfect, and Velvette's song cements that fact.

I like this video, but I don't think they are mother and daughter. I don't know much about the demons in this universe but having similar colours could probably be because as people they are more alike than they realize, or they committed a similar sin

Velvette is the most interesting of the Vs. At first, I was expecting high things from Vox, but she caught my attention. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have a BBC. Black British Character.

BRO!!! I love resting ground from hollow knight. Good backgroud music. Same goes for white palace. It wasn't too imposing and allowed me to here you break down Velvette's character quite well. No wonder she's one of my favorite characters in Hazbin.

Velvet tea feels like a #1 will die somehow and I either wish she survives despite her hubris or dies brilliantly doing what she loves.

I think she didnt go to the meeting to start a war, maybe setting se groundwork for one down the line, but i think the dramatic showing was for the purpose of probing who could be responsible. After all as far as she knows the only people who could and would kill an angel are in that room. Angels are not easy to kill, whether its magic bullet or sheer power they can be killed and she wants to know who so she can find out how.

This series must be popularly incredible! I think I’ll have to get mom to get the Amazon subscription just for Hazbin Hotel (or more Amazon shows if you want to recommend the good ones to me)

I like the idea that she figures out who killed the angel by walking into a room with the most powerful people in hell (a likely pool of both suspects and people who might be in the now) with a severed head. It's a solid move!

Velvette really had me do a double take. When vox and al were having their beef, I wondered "what if an internet demon showed up and just toppled vox and al. Since the internet can do both. And so much more. I expected an internet demon to be absolutely split. With several voices going on about how he is everything at all times. No schedules, no morals. And then velvette shows up, throwing internet slang around and constantly being on her phone, that I started believing in my internet demon theory more. His presence is there. He just didn't fully manifest yet

This scene is really interesting to revisit now knowing that SPOILERS Velvet and the other Vees had no intention of actually fighting the Exorcists as shown in the finale. So getting a rise out of the other Overlords and potentially getting them to take reckless action was the entire point. Unluckily for her this pushed Carmilla and Rosie to assist the Hazbin Hotel, meaning they probably will get part of the credit for successfully driving off the angels.
