I've lost two ferrets and it's a horrible thing to go through. My first ferret died painfully with seizures which was the worst thing to witness. I tried everything to save him by taking him to multiple different vets, giving him medication and giving him around the clock care. He lived a year longer because of it and life came back in his eyes and I thought things were looking up but then one day he started having seizures and passed violently. I thought I was doing what was best for him but I have regret because I wished he could pass peacefully and not have to go through pain, I always always regret this decision even though we made progress with him. You made the best decision for brutus so I hope you don't have any regrets about it. I also had a 2cnd ferret which I adopted because it was neglected, he was already sick and no one knew how old he was but we think he was 5-6 years old. He had the same condition as my first ferret (insulinoma) when he had his first seizure I took him to the emergency room and had him put on fluids and was given medicine. The next few nights he'd be ok, but various times through the day he'd be lethargic and his body temperature would drop so much. He started seizing more frequently so we took him to the hospital again and that's when the vet recommended we put him down. We chose to do this knowing what happened with my first ferret, he wouldn't live a good life if we kept him on medication around the clock and it was like the same scenario as you experienced, alone sitting in the emergency room with my ferret in my arms at 2am in my pajamas. I know exactly how hard it is to lose a ferret and I'm sorry you had to go through it. I commented earlier on your daily ferret routine video about how I saw Brutus clawing at the roof of his mouth (which is a sign that they are experiencing issues or pain) but I didn't see this video until after and my comment came off as insensitive. I hope that your other ferret lives a long healthy life and I hope this doesn't put you off from owning ferrets in the future.

I fed her the food she liked, made sure to give her car rides and made sure her bed was right. Her friend, a black lab/pit mix is still grieving. This happened in mid April.

I understand your pain completely. A little over a year ago my fiancées cat died from a freak accident. She was jumping off the counter in her old apartment and we had some boxes that weren’t tapped together yet leaning against the counter ( we were moving two weeks from then) and she jumped and didn’t land correctly. She broke her neck and I tried to save her even gave her cpr and her last breath. She died in my arms. I watched the life leave from her eyes and her blood was all over my clothes. To this day I still can’t wear that shirt because it reminds me of when we lost her but I keep it as a memory for some reason. It was hard and we still cry randomly over this. I think most people who aren’t animal parents don’t get how important they are to us. These are our children and they are born to be nothing but your child. They are made to love and comfort us. Losing a pet is hard and people act like replacing them will fix the issue but it doesn’t. Sure you can get another pet but that pet won’t be your former. Anyways I love you man and I’m with you as you get through this rough time

Seriously I bawled watching this video. As an owner of dogs, cats and ferrets I can say without a doubt losing a ferret is the worst. That may be surprising to people who don’t own ferrets, but there is something truly unique about ferrets and losing them is utterly awful. Harrison I’m so so sorry. We lost our girl Whinnie in a similar way and she died at home in my arms. I never cried so hard in my life. You’ll never forget your little guy but you can honor his memory one day by rescuing another ferret who needs you :) -Huge hugs from Illinois.

I had a scare yesterday about accidentally clipping my oldest's claw to the nerve. this video came at a good time for me. my ferrets are six and one of them got diagnosed with insulinoma a few months ago. it's hard watching her health decline, and I know that her time is limited. even when you have time to prepare yourself, its still extremely difficult. but I am grateful that I have time to process it all and make sure the end of her days are the best they can be. I worry about her and her bonded sister every day, all day. thank you for talking about this. it's helpful. im so sorry for the stress you went through, and the loss. they are little dookin angels. you did the best you could, you really did.

Seeing you talk about this reminded me of when we had to put my dog down because she was so sick and was in so much pain. I understood she was old but it hurt me so much, and I felt so empty. I had my dog for maybe 12 years and she was the sweetest thing ever

It is horrific loosing a ferret, one minute there gone and then the next they are not. Often vets can't help unless it's usual kind of diseases they suffer from. Feel for you as have lost over 10 ferrets in my life time and remember all of them like it was yesterday.

I'm so sorry for your loss.. We had 2 rescue ferrets and they were wonderful little goofs. Sadly our domestic ferrets were bred by labs so they can do medical tests. They have several endocrine diseases. Ex: Adrenal diseases are very common. Both of ours passed this way. It was so hard to put them down but it was for the best. You gave Brutus a wonderful life and he couldn't have had a better human. Take comfort in that. Take Care.

I am sorry Harrison. I lost my dog, Ursa, in December and it's been hard. That on top of being bullied for being trans was terrible but you helped me a lot. I don't hear my dog walking around anymore and she doesn't nudge her nose against the window anymore. It will get better and you will be ok.

So sorry you lost Brutus...it really sucks to lose a pet. We’re going through something similar at the moment with our 3yr old cat. He’s lost about 10% of his body weight and they’ve discovered a lump in his neck which is pressing on his oesophagus (which is why he’s not eating as much...it’s difficult). He had an ultrasound and biopsy yesterday and we’re currently waiting for the results. We’re now keeping our fingers and toes crossed that whatever it is isn’t sinister.

I just discovered your channel but I want to say that I’m sorry for your loss, I know how it feels to lose a pet that you’ve held so dearly. I used to have a puppy and he seemed to be pretty healthy too until I noticed that he wouldn’t eat at all, he’d throw up every time he could and it pained me. Eventually I found out that he was having liver and kidney problems and his health state got worse everyday that passed by. I had to put him down, and I cried for over a week while hoping I’d wake up to my dog on my chest trying to wake me up by licking my face, but sadly I know it won’t happen.

I know its been a year since your loss but I know he is still on your mind. I lost both of my ferrets. My boy was 7 yrs old and he had swelling in his stomach and in alot of pain so we put him down. Then my girl she started having seizures because of insulinoma. She stopped eating so I would hand feed her. She was able to live for 3 months with no problems. They were her best months. She then had a small seizure recovered from that but 15 minutes later she had a massive seizure that took her life. I was devastated because I held her but I was there trying to comfort her. It was so scary. I miss them both so very much and it's been at least 2 years. I know how you felt.

And I thought wow this person really takes good care of their pets. I also thought you were very smart and articulate. I knew a friend who let her cat suffer bc she was in denial and really let her go too long and that was hard to watch. You were and are an amazing pet owner. And your babies were and are so Lucky to have you. I’m sorry for your loss. But you gave your baby an amazing happy life. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

I lost one of my cats around the same time, I'm so sorry you had to lose him in such a painful way. It's a hard fight when you know they're getting worse and there isn't much you can do... Lots of love man ❤️ The part where you spoke about putting him down really got to me cause I did the same with my cat and it's really intense, it's like once they pass they're not the same animzl anymore. They are not your cat anymore cause you can see them lose their life, they're just a cat body thay lays lifeless...

Every single day I appreciate my babies and I can’t help but think they won’t be around long. Even a full life isn’t long compared to other animals. I don’t have this in the back of my head with my dog. Only my ferrets. One. My youngest (3) is my fav animal I ever owned just the thought of him dying makes me teary eyed. I know it’s a reality I will face one day. I try to be prepared but the pain will be unavoidable. I do value every moment I have with them. Even when they are being little shits! Sorry to hear I will no longer have ferrets. It’s hard to find good owners for them. And they certainly deserve good owners. The amount of happiness they bring they deserve nothing but love.

I had a emotional support animal and he got hit by a car and I had to watch I waited a year to get a new emotional support animal and that ya my ferret. My heart goes out to you you are so strong and when you started crying I wanted to cry.

It's ALWAYS HARD to have to put a ferret down. I have owned them for approx. 10 years. The youngest I had to put down had just turned 3. The others about 3 and 1/2. I am going to have one put down this week because she has grown large lymph nodes ,..... lymphoma! My ferrets HATE MEDS!

I have many pets I also have a ferret before I bought it I had a dog a very bad person poisoned her and she ran away from the house and ended up in a lady's house she called us to come. We took my uncle because we wanted to see if we could stop the venono but we could not do anything the venono was already very overwhelmed. so i saw her died in front of my and it was very painful.

I know this is old but if u keep having ferrets. 1. Try getting freeze dried raw food instead. 2. Keep canned pumpkin for when they shed. Helps with blockages, diarrhea and constipation.

I lost my ferret on 9/ 12/ 19 and I was not home while it happened and when I got home my mom hide it from me for a few hours and I had him since I could remember and that broke me.

I don’t wanna cause no stress I hope you see this message but ferrets are just somewhat like humans but ferrets if you don’t give them enough attention they feel that pain then they will get depressed then they stop eating they sleep more then other sad things happen. I don’t understand their course of treatment tbh. But I am not a vet. Just all the blockage scares and one blockage I’ve dealt with, none ever recommended what ur vet told u. If a ferret had a blockage and throws up that means the blockage is too big and exploratory surgery is necessary to remove blockage. I wish I understood why they didn’t suggest surgery unless it was a $$ thing. Watching ferrets die is so hard. Def one of the more difficult animals to watch die bc there aren’t as strong as other animals. When they get sick things have to happen fast or u lose them. Sorry for ur loss. I’m sure uve moved forward by now.
