I've taught my ferrets 'no' so when they're doing something bad (digging up the carpet or something) and I say no, they'll flatten themselves against the ground and wait until I leave.

My dad had a ferret named Arthur when he was a kid and lived in Germany. He liked to crawl into and between the couch cushions and wait until my grandma sat on the couch to read, at which point he would pop up, put his wet nose on the back of her neck or leg, and sort of shutter-laugh at her when she jumped and cursed at him. The phrase "Goddamnit Arthur!" was quite common.

Not everyone. My bfs ferret is always running around destroing all my staff, biting me for fun and mocking my poor cat, it smells, its disgusting, it poops everywhere and I have to clean it cause my bf doesnt care. It makes me cry. I hate washing it I hate it
@the9revan933
@the9revan933 4 жыл бұрын
@@saramail5168 it sounds like you need a new boyfriend. I know Harrison said they are simple to take care of but if you slip up and fall out of a care routine, you will find poop in every corner. They do stink...but it's reasonable if their cage is maintained properly...and the only time they need a bath is if they get into a really shitty or dirty situation; washing them will make them smell worse as their bodies work harder to replace the oils they lost. Some ferret shampoos claim to help with that but I never really saw much of a difference. Someone didn't teach them not to nip at a young age as well it seems; you have to "nip" it in the butt early or they will get used to buying humans and that's no ok. The only ferret I had that did was Bandito and he only liked to bite the back of leg where the need bends (he was a weirdo); them jumping around with their mouth open is just them having fun most of the time.
@angelzombie2111
@angelzombie2111 4 жыл бұрын
@@saramail5168 they only stink when they're not properly cared for... They do have a slight distinct smell to them, but not unbearable, so long as they're properly taken care of. Your bf needs to step up, or give the ferret to someone who knows how and CARES to properly handle ferrets.

The problem is their diet. He's feeding them kibble, which is a terrible idea. Ferrets are obligate carnivores that should be fed raw meat with the odd egg yolk and some fish oil. The easiest option is buying barf type food in bulk and freezing cubes of it ( not puke, it's a blend of meat&cartilage/bones). There's no kibble that actually meet ferret nutritional needs. Their protein % contain is always too low and they are full of filler to make the bulk of it. Stuff like beet/corn pulp. As they get older, ferret raised on kibble develop pancreatic cancers from their sugary diet. They cannot digest plant fibers. Their digestive track is too small. It's all about protein and fat. With the right diet, anytime they spend awake is pretty much having kittens on crack!

@bouganhagain8131
@bouganhagain8131 4 жыл бұрын
@@leesilva5246 we didnt have to do anything, they befriended by themselfs, i mean they were so close that the cat would lick the furret to clean it and the furret would sleep on her, but it probably depends on the cat and the furret's personnality because some furret are more agressive and some cats are agressive so its really just luck, but at first the cat was trying to attack her, so keep in mind that it gets better with time.

Absolutely loved our ferret prissy. We miss her a lot but while she was alive she was just so lovable. We got her as a stray, she just came to the house rummaging near the bins. We put up a sign in the post office for lost ferret, we were pretty sure they weren't wild animals. Anyway two weeks later we got a reply, she escaped from a ferret breeder. But in those two weeks she grew on us and we just fell in love. We even had to take her to the vets because something wasn't quite right with her. She was in heat and they had to bring her out of it, or else she would have died....lucky we did that then. Because the next 7 years with her were just the best. The ferret breeder let us have her after we told him about the vets. We took care of her and he appreciated it. She was a white ferret with red eyes. Best animal. When she wasn't in her cage she would sleep around my bedroom, turned one of the drawers into a makeshift bed. She did bite a lot, but she was playing, as odd as that sounds. You build immunity to it, but she was smart. She never bit hard on strangers, but she knew I didn't care and she'd lay into me as I gave her fuss.

Lovely to see, i used to have twelve ferrets all rescued from various places. They slept outside but I had a tube from their shed to the garden then another into my house so they came in every day and had a run around. Unfortunately, they were not house trained so it got a bit messy sometimes! One time one of them hid food in my tumble dryer. I found out when it started to smell really bad ! They are such characters and a joy to have. I don't have any anymore, work and family life got too busy, so I really enjoyed your video, thank you.

Usually putting those two things together would mean something would be dirty or more on the unorganized, but he has everything well kept. It’s a very good thing. A person who is organized and clean, means they have their life going the right way. They have a plan. For someone his age, that’s an even greater thing. He should be proud. I run into a lot of people who are 30 or older who don’t have their life together.

I owned a ferret when I was younger. We couldn’t afford a cage, so we made on with an old book shelf and chicken wire. It wound up being one of her favorite toys, because she would climb all over it. She was well behaved enough to roam the house, and wouldn’t really cause too big of a problem. She died from stomach cancer. She was only two and a half years old. Broke my heart.

I own two ferrets of my own. You left a bit out I think! Ferrets (especially one ferret on his own) are prone to boredom and depression. They do best in pairs or groups (they entertain each other) and need new toys and places to explore every now and then. Other than that, you should keep a close eye on their sleeping and eating patterns, because ferrets are prone to a lot of sicknesses and allergies. They're hard to treat, and even harder to diagnose. They're a lot of fun, but I don't think they're quite as simple as you make them seem in this video...
