Do you ever get to Back Mount in BJJ but then end up losing it and having your opponent come up on top?
This is the question our buddy Armando asked in regards to his Brazilian Jiujitsu training and competitions.
He says that he has been able to get to the back just fine.
But. . .
Once he get's there he loses it. The person is able to escape and what was going to be a great position ended up falling apart.
So in this video I show some tips on how I like to play Back Mount in Brazilian Jiujitsu.
My favorite style of Back Mount is a bit unorthodox.
I call it Half Back as the legs are a half in and half out.
I also, do not play lying back casually where the person can escape easily. Instead I come up to my elbow to press forward.
This creates a nice push forward on both the hips and the back making it very difficult to escape the position.
I also find that this Back Mount variation really makes my Rear Naked Chokes and other submissions more effective.
1 because the position is not typical.
And 2 because I'm able to hide my choking arm.
If you're having a similar situation and you're tired of losing back mount. Try the tips from this video out!

I learn so much from these videos. Even things that the video isn't focusing on. Even if I can't execute 9/10th's of it in sparring just by watching it, that's still 1/10th improvement. Thank you.

Hey Chewy! I love your work. I have question. So Im a teenage blue belt and recently a big grown man white belt came to visit the gym. Ive never be afraid to roll with adults because I used to be one of the few kids at my old gym, so I always had to. So this visting white belt as a stripe or two and can identify submission, so I mostly I dominate him with sweeps and overrall control, but a couple of time I lock up the armbar from guard but he locks up his hands and no matter how much I try to use my whole body to stretch out his hands apart, I cant. So I was wondering what do you do when you the armbar from guard locked, but you cant finish it. Thank you, so much! Love your videos!

Adam Camacho if he is stacking you, consider going for a spin under armbar. m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ariPrKeZ15alqZc.html And m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m7ZpnbR5tNKxoY0.html Chad has a cool technique to use against stackers. m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fa2BqtOcm5zcl6s.html If he is just maintaining good posture, check out these tips on breaking that posture which will weaken him and may give you the chance to break the grip. Pay particular attention to the difference in Uke's posture when the instructor moves his calf from the back of the neck to "chop down" on the back of the head. m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jdx6mpx7ntOdZ4E.html Another alternative is to see if he is exposing himself to a wristlock or other submission in this situation. Sometimes we get so focused on defense of a particular technique that we leave ourselves completely exposed for a different one. Remember, there will be white belts with blackbelt defense against particular attacks, so this means you need black belt attacks, or you need to catch them off guard and sink your technique in before they have the chance to react.

Is there a reason you don’t put the body lock in and then hook the leg when in back mount? Back half is interesting and seems like it allows you to be more mobile in transitions.

What to do when your opponent is on the back mount on top of you, and you are facing the mat, he sprawls his leg hooks on you and you get flattened out, how to escape from that?

Mr Art Hurtado taper off your workout the last 10 days before comp and end up doing only like a third of what you do leading up to comp. and try to stay fresh well rested and at your competition weight. stress free 😥🌿🌿

Cam Bat well... to be honest I wasn’t smart about the one on my wrist. I trained the same day... haha for some of my other tats I waited about 3 days and I left something on to cover it for a week while rolling. Just made sure to shower after to avoid anything nasty.
