Starting Again in the Refugee Camp
A short Documentary about Pang Ge Yang and Mee Lee.
An incredible story of Love, Loss and Hope.
At the end of the Secret War, Pang Ge Yang escapes from Laos into Thailand. Through the harsh journey through the jungle, Pang Ge's pregnant wife dies and he is unable to leave her body for three days.
Mee Lee also is fleeing war torn Laos, and her husband dies during the escape. Mee found herself as a near death, broken widow in the Thailand refugee camps.
After losing everything, a miracle happens and these two widows find each other and a new reason for life again in each other.

You hear of all these horror stories from our elders and I can't believe that they went through all this. I can only imagine how scary it was to see dead bodies. How difficult it must have been to make the decision to make the trek to Thailand on foot. Tsis mus los yuav tuag. Yuav mus los yuav tuag. I am so blessed to have been born and raised during a time of "peace" and not have to experience those hardships.

For the elders: As young children 90’s born in the states we did not fully comprehend what you were saying. There was war everywhere in history. All we knew was that being Hmong was miserable, poor and a struggle. It wasn’t until we got back on our feet and the first generation Hmong-Americans grew up did we finally understand the scope of what happened and what really went down. As with anything in life a human cannot fully comprehend and sympathize until you are older. When we were told the horror stories, they were just that: HORRORS. We were spooked and freaked out but it is only until you are older and out the “struggle” so to speak, is when you can fully understand what happened. With that being said thank you to all the elders that never got thanked for fighting through because all I knew was that being Hmong was that I was different. I did not know that there was such beauty and wholesomeness in Hmong pre war history and in the Hmong people’s spirit.

Ok but from what I am getting from your comment is, you’re trying to sweep the Hmong peoples struggles and oppressions (caused by Laotians and their communism) under the rug. The Hmong wanted nothing to do with the Laotian’s civil war but the Laotians forced the Hmong into the Laotian civil war and if the Hmong refuse, they would be prosecuted. The Hmong just wanted to be left alone and live freely. But the Laotian communism put the Hmong frontline for their own gain in their own war.

@@mabv688 it's general VP got hmong into Laotian war because of opium that The general himself trade for weapons/cash and power...Laotian didn't force hmong to do that...it was VP himself recruited hmong to work for him and got hmong into hot seats....What oppression? Didn't your cousins just went for vacations in Laos last couple years ago and couldn't wait to go back? The hmong group that they kept an eyes on are the one that want to take over the country that VP support military...The majority of hmong in Laos are living free and doing business like Laotian...Didn't you see 10000 video all over KZfaq? Don't believe OG lies in the USA because all they want is their own country...The few hmong men went to lao and made illegal porn movies and got caught. They were jailed but lied to the media in USA that they didn't do anything. This was told by hmong producer...yes a producer!....Can you imagine if those rebels are in USA and are trying to take Wisconsin as hmong state..Do you think the USA military wouldn't anything? There're hmong in Laos that are too rich that made us look poor in the USA. I was told by hmong neighbor that went vacations in lao...Those video of killing were not even in Laos it was in Vietnam...Actually there was many reports that hmong rebels robbed passengers at gun points along Laotian hyways...do me a favor and take vacations in Laos to see if your people is oppressed? I'm 100% you're going to have a good time...please stop listening to so called hmong OG one sided fake news...Most have no credibility, no research or any schooling or baseless facts....it's entertainment only.. when was the last time you heard hmong killed hmong in USA, communities fighting communities and you think hmong don't play politics/lies...can you tell me how many hmong in USA killed, illegal drugs...do you think hmong don't do drugs in Laos? Killing each other just like here in USA? Blame Laotian killed them? When last time you heard lao killing Lao in USA ..NOT TOO MANY I bet... Lao are nice people and we never have problems with hmong...those Chou Fa in the jungle are freedom fighters of course any military will go after them and they carried guns...wouldn't you go after them too if they want to take your country? Vang Pao was going to send them weapons and cash.. Come on man Chou Fa are not that innocent..the USA government knows them already....We lao were shot at too when we escaped from lao it was not just hmong and everyone was a target...There're thousands Laotians who lost their lives...I'm not down played you guys...I'm just telling the Laotian side we too suffered the killing..this was not told by hmong elders about Laotian.

@@kp5518 your knowledge about the war and the Hmong is too little. Laotians made vp to force his people to do that because they manipulated him to thinking he was going to get some kind of money, power and land. Laotians never want to hold themselves accountable for their wrong doings and will always blame it on the Hmong. Funny how your second comment is off topic from your first comment. Shows me that you just want to put your own agenda and assumptions forward without actually knowing factual stories. You only hear it or think to yourself. Like how you are assuming that I have cousins who just went to Laos couple years ago? You don’t even know me and you are thinking like that of me. That’s not the Hmong people’s story to tell, that’s the Laotian’s story to tell. Not our responsibility. You’re really trying to just project the Hmong as bad people and overshadow their struggles by putting the Laotian’s story in the comment like this. This is not the place.

@@mabv688 you tell me how Laotian manipulate VP....He actually did trade Opium for weapons....there was USA reporter stated that the US army loaded helicopters full of opium during the war and were headed to United States.. Do you have any proof that LAO promised VP a land? Was it written or word of mouth from hmong fake news...You're the one claiming that lao oppressed hmong...are you? Are hmong people dying on the street in Laos or it was just criminal cases...if you don't live in America than you really don't knew what's going on about hmong life in the USA...there are successful hmong but majority are struggling to survive and same as Laotian.. What I said is the truth...you could research on any news and find information....Maybe you live in Thailand, Laos or Vietnam...I'm just tired Listen to hate messages from hmong that Laotian is killing them but none has any proof...I was referring to you "all" that claim prosecution/genocide but went to Lao for vacations? and get new wives and drunk like a goat....what I'm missing here..surely you didn't see hmong in Laos drive land cruiser and Mercedes? They're making movies, videos, fancy weddings... What genocide? CHOU FAH....those are not normal hmong...They're the fighters for VP...CHOU FA tribe people died because VP....blame that on him..he used his people to fight for him when he was alive....and maybe still are...Please tell me about the war? I knew little? Remember I was war refugees myself...it's Laotian that gave VP his general rank and not the USA army..that was why USA army rejected him....It was Vang Pao that want power and greed...who wouldn't want that? Promised land i don't think so....proof it...if Laotian was fabricating land deal that easily? you had to question his leadership...if there as such documentation signed than I'll believe you...I heard of that land deals before from fake news no education youtuber reporter..

@@kp5518 you sound very ignorant and sound like a someone who lets his emotions blind himself. Like I said your agenda does not belong here and it’s not the place for Hmong people to speak about. You want it to be heard then you speak about it yourself elsewhere. You wanting to shut down the Hmong people speaking about their own story is oppression. You saying that the Hmong people’s stories are lies is the same way the communist Laotian’s would say. You are showing yourself as an example of communism and oppression.
