There's no way it makes more sense to watch this before "316."

John Locke has one of the saddest overall stories in modern TV fiction.

This episode is so hard to rewatch. Locke goes through absolute hell. The most amazing part is that unknowing to locke, he succeeded. He gave jack hope, which was his real life mission. And he found peace in the afterlife. Simultaneously horrific and beautiful

Damon and Carlton were the ones who wanted to switch this episode and the next one around for airing because they felt it ultimately made sense to air the other one first (I think Eric misunderstood what the creators' desired order was). This is the first time I've seen anyone attempt to watch this one before "316".

This decision undercuts the intrigue of the letter in the next episode, now the whole drama of the suicide and the letter have lost all significance because its already understood what happened I don't personally agree with the decision to swap these episodes

It doesn't really make sense to me to watch this before "316," given the return to the island has no context here... and when Ben says 'I guess we'll never know' re: Locke's fate in that episode, you now already know what actually happened. 🤷‍♂️ You can get away with flip-flopping "The Glass Ballerina" and "Further Instructions," but I don't think it works with these two.

When your second favourite character kills your favourite character but you somehow love him more for it. Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson are so perfect in that scene

And now seeing the footage, I'm reminded that swapping these has spoiled Frank's return and the entire plane aspect - I'm sorry but swapping these episodes around was a terrible decision

Rick asking all the right questions has me excited for the rest of the show.

When Jack gets all teary eyed and shaky, you know shit has gone down. Fox, Quinn, Emerson are just sooo good. For all the crazy twists and turns, all the mythology and mysteries, all the great one-liners (like "He's the man who killed me"), it's the performances that really make LOST special Even in this episode, knowing what was going to happen, I found myself wanting to believe Ben, as Locke did. There's no greater praise for the writing and performance of the character that I can give than that

I remember trying for ages to get my dad to watch LOST, and he was having none of it, "is that that weird Island show? no thanks". Anyway, he eventually started watching it and got hooked to the point that watching LOST was all I ever saw him doing. His favourite line is "He's the man who killed me"

I really like that Rick is on this journey with you. This seems to be his jam

This is not the "original way" to watch the show. Although the episodes are mostly contained, this is like skipping a chapter in a book and going to the next, only to come back to the previous chapter. I have NO CLUE why anyone would do this.

Watching out of order causes questions to be asked that would be answered by watching 316 first. Why make LOST ever harder to understand for Eric?

I was so angry that Ben killed him. I love Locke so much, I never wanted him to die :( For all of John's life to lead to this. I cry when I think of everything John Locke goes through in his life and his arc as a character. Terry O'Quinn is revered to me for this role. And *especially* his acting in Season Six. I can't wait.

Nah there’s no reason for this episode switch. 316 does come first and it does matter which order they’re watched in. Kills the reveals. Noticed Eric often doesn’t know what he’s talking about and acts like he does.

This is the hardest rewatch. First time around, it is not as sad because you know hes alive again. But after learning he doesnt really come back.. heartbreak!!!

I cry often when I rewatch LOST, but this episode is one of the ones that hits me the hardest. I just feel so bad for poor John :(

I like how you can see "john locke" really thinking about what happened when Caesar is telling him how Hurley vanished off the plane. You can see it concerns him greatly...

Spoilers* You relate to Rick because you know that John comes back. But you relate to Eric because you know that he didn't. Eric's face when John was being killed says it all. I love rewatching this show but this episode is always the hardest for me.

I'm sorry, but watching this episode before "316" just doesn't make sense to me. You lose all the surprise and excitement of the 316's sudden begging with Jack being back on the island. You lose the mystery behind what is in the letter that John wrote to Jack because it is spoiled here. I'm sorry, Eric, but this is definitely a mistake.

Loved the reaction. Sad the ‘what’s john’s suicide note’ and john being alive reveals have been spoiled but it’ll all be ok. The overall season is fantastic :)

I gotta say, for a show that can be as confusing as LOST, to intentionally present the show to someone who's never seen it out of order is......an idea.

I don't remember the show chronologically enough to particularly be affected by the order, but I imaginen if 316 is the one I think it is, it does kind of work either way so I think no harm done. Love this discussion! The fact that Rick can say like "unless this is the future and then they get taken away by the light because they were caught up in that time travel stuff which makes sense" with a straight face is funny. And it's so right how it's like Ben clearly has done horrible things but we still trust him more than Whitmore who we barely know. I think part of it is believing in the idea that Whitmore is jealous of Ben for what he gets from the island and trusting in the island more hahah plus yeah he was a dick to Desmond who is wonderful. Poor John. Honestly, I think LOST exposed my specific visceral response to imagery of people hanging. I find it so horribly haunting, which of course I'm meant to find it awful but there's just something about that particular death imagery that gets me. First with Ethan and Charlie and now seeing the shadow with John is absolutely horrendous.

Spoilers Does anyone notice how evil the not Locke looks in the beginning after he takes off the robe. Which is weird considering Terry O Quinn didn't know he was not Locke.

I "kind of" get the reason for swapping with 316 just to be different, but I guess I'm of the opinion that a Rewatch should be Rewatched in the same order all of the rest of us Watched in the first place? After finding out that ABC flipped these, in 2009 I did Rewatch and see if it mattered...it doesn't....so again - why rewatch in a different order than we watched in originally?

I don't care what your reasons are, it does not make any sense to watch the episodes in this order. Nothing with the plane and the characters from the plane makes any sense unless you watch 316 first. That is the way they were aired.

Why on Earth would you swap episodes? I've never seen any other reactor do this (probably because it's a stupid freaking decision). That was completely unnecessary and takes away some of the impact of "316". Very strange choice. You might be trying too hard to be "Mr. Lost".
