This is why shipping is stupid, you miss and misinterpret things because you're projecting your own wishes onto the characters. The dynamic of the love triangle throughout the series was Sawyer pursuing Kate, who was pursuing Jack, who wasn't completely available because he was chasing his own demons. Nicki never noticed this because of her Skater bias and she thinks that Kate is still in love with Sawyer, even though she never really was. Sawyer was the backup/consolation/rebound, whatever you wanna call it. Kate cried because she was upset for him, not because he was going to marry another woman. Seriously, after three years and after she almost married Jack? She was always caring and became even more so after adopting Aaron. That's why she saved Ben and tried to comfort his father, not because "she's stupid" A nice thing about Sawyer and Juliet is that they didn't like each other at first and they were both in love with people who were in love with somebody else, but they found and loved each other after being "abandoned" on the island by those people

I think the reason why Claire hasn't been in Season 5 was because Emilie De Raven, the actress who played Claire around that year that season 4 and 5 of Lost aired Emilie De Raven starred in a Movie with Robert Pattinson called "Remember Me" a very emotional movie I actually really enjoyed watching. So the writers had to sit Claire out for the whole of Season 5. The way they brought Claire back into the final season of Lost was epic. Trivia both actors starred in "Remember Me" while the franchise "Lost" and "Twighlight" were still active.

The writers mistakenly thought people who didn't care for the mysteries of the show would tune in for the triangle. Outside of that, which was only ever truly present throughout season 3 and early season 4, Kate was consistently empathetic, smart, helpful, and caring. She was as reckless and headstrong at times as Jack and Locke and Sawyer and Sayid but gets hated for it because she's a woman. Plain and simple. She shouldn't be held accountable for everything that goes wrong with the men or judged for simply breathing around Sawyer just because she had sex with him due to Stockholm syndrome from those damn cages and then once when she was jealous of Jack flirting with Juliet. She didn't cause Suliet to break up and she never cheated on Jack or Sawyer in the early seasons because none of them were in a relationship. Jack and Sawyer always hated eachother regardless, because of how similar they actually were to eachother. Nothing to do with Kate. Sawyer slept with Ana and Kate within a few days but no one ever mentions that, he was making lewd comments to all the women on the island between that as well but again Kate's the slut etc. No one mentions how it was Sawyer making googly eyes and comments at Kate in season 5 of his own accord - Kate didn't show one ounce of interest in him other than friendship. Yes, she used Sawyer in this episode during the worst time of his adult life to find Claire, but what the hell else was she supposed to do? She was the only one back on that island for selfless reasons, to reunite a mother with her son, and she risked her life to do so. Juliet losing her mind because of how her parents ended wasn't on Kate. Again, shitty sexist writing. Kate genuinely cares about Sawyer's loss and his well-being outside of that and it has nothing to do with romance. Jack and Sawyer represented Kate's light and dark sides early on, they mirrored Sam (the solid stepfather she believed was her real dad most of her life), and Wayne (the mess of a dad she believed was her stepfather most of her life) which she pointed out herself in season 2. It sucks they made her story about the guys in the middle but it was still barely 20-30% of her total arc. She deserves props for the rest, mainly her relationships with Claire and Sun and Sayid early on, which I'm glad the Normies acknowledge. I realise this is mostly just a rant, and it's not aimed at anyone in particular, but it is time to let the Kate hate go in general. I'm tired.

Probably one of my least favorite episodes of the series to watch for me at the time. It was so frustrating, made sense in later episodes. (Have you ever seen Rectify? Great show)

I love the subtext in this episode .. if you weren't paying close attention you wouldn't even notice it. Kate follows Sawyer and isn't fooled by the "decoy trail" .. unlike the audience. She finds sawyer in a house .. pushing a dresser out of the way (Amy hid Paul's necklace in her dresser. Sawyer hid Kate's ring under the dresser. Under the floorboards .. like Poe's "The Telltale Heart".) We see Sawyer pull out a shoebox (Kate also hid a shoebox .. in her closet .. in LA) .. we briefly see him holding a little black velvet bag just like the one Nicki&Paulo hid their diamonds in. Yes, we are to assume Sawyer hid that ring for Juliet. That is the "decoy trail". But could it be that he stole that ring from Nicki&Paulo and hid it when he was living in the barracks in 2004? He was really ready to commit to a life with Kate.
