Too many people either casually watched the show, or hadn't paid enough attention during its run, and then completely misinterpreted this final scene. The cut away parts to Jack dying in the bamboo field, the plane flying over him as he lay dying (which was Lapedis and the Ajira plane with the few remaining survivors leaving Hydra Island, not Oceanic 815 - but some people didn't understand that either) and then the plane wreckage during the credits, led some people to think that was an extension from the original pilot which was showing Jack (and everyone else) dying/dead during the original plane crash ..... which is was not. It is difficult to remember 6 years worth of show at the end of a series like this. Rewatching it in just a few weeks time on Hulu is much more satisfying.

Let me be the pathetic one to say that I think they all died in the plane crash and that the island is a transition between life and the afterlife. When you die on the island you have endured the purgatory and proven your right to go to heaven. However the island needs a guardian which is why Hurley must stay to make sure the newcomers will prove their worth. Just my pathetic theory
@MariaRodriguez-wq2rq7 жыл бұрын
gris186 thats a good theory, but it isn't how it actually goes. It's literally explained in this scene that everything that happened to them was real, the island wasn't purgatory, the flash sideways were. It's all in this dialogue.
@alexb29477 жыл бұрын
If Claire was dead in the crash, she would never given birth to Aaron. Even Jin & Sun wouldn't have conceived their daughter. If all the characters were dead in the first place, they would have never developed those feelings of love and friendship that connected them at the end of the story.
@andreina93057 жыл бұрын
I finished Lost recently, for the first time. I remember in 2010 i watched parts of The End" without watching the show (only watched some episodes and/or scenes), and since then i always thought they were dead the whole time because of the people you mention, i mean was that a popular belief or what? I really thought that was the reason people hated the ending (because that would be awful), but it didn't happen like that. So, WTF? I don't get people. I bet many of them didn't watched the whole show. Lost ended up being better than i thought it would be.
@alexb29477 жыл бұрын
You're right. It wouldn't make any sense if they were really dead the whole time. Some people bashed the ending without even understanding it, some fans disliked it because of a supposed lack of answers, but Lost was always more about the characters than about the mysteries. What happened on the screen, flashbacks, life on island and flashforwards about 3 years off the island of the Oceanic Six's group, it all really happened. The flashsideways in season 6 were a place that the ex-losties created together to meet each other again after their deaths. Every character's death happened at different times: Shannon and Boone died in 2004, Sun,Jin, Juliet and Jack in 2007, Claire and Kate it's not known when, because the Ajira's group left the island at the end while Jack's dying, etc. Ji Yeon and Aaron lived their life off the island. They were in the church together to move on just as we ever knew and loved them, i.e. Aaron as a baby because they even knew him as a baby. All the characters will be connected forever from the relationships of love and friendship, since the love can survive everything. Not only the characters but even the viewers are involved in letting go and moving on together. A strong spiritual ending so touching and actually beautiful.

Damn, this is SUCH a powerful scene. For me, the most emotional part is when Jack asks "For what?" and Christian replies "To remember... and to let go," and the soundtrack kicks in. I think it's so emotional because the purpose of this entire finale was to let the audience remember all the fantastic and heartfelt moments in the show... and to help them let go. So when Christian says "To remember, and to let go", it's like he's telling the audience that it's time to let the show go, and to say goodbye to all the characters that they've loved for so many years.

This scene was gut wrenching to me. Christian made it pretty clear. Everyone eventually dies sooner or later. Everyone that survives after Jack died on the island eventually dies. Everyone is put into the "flash sideways" or post life after death. It doesn't get explained why or how everyone is put into the post life. I think that's where your beliefs or religion come into play. There is no timeline in the post life. Desmond had flashes of his past life and remembers everyone from the island. That's why he went on a mission to help everyone remember who they were, how they were all connected, and how they died from their past lives. Once everyone remembers and accepts what happened in the past, they will be ready to move on. It's up to us to decide where they will move on as soon as they walk into the light Christian opened the door to. I think they ended this beautifully.

Isn't that a reflection of life...many have survived drug gangs, separatist violence, terrorism, abuse, war, or horrific personal losses like a losing family members in a house fire or car accident. We are compelled to remember them, honor what they've meant to us...and let THEM GO. Sometimes it's about forgiving the harms done to us and letting the pain and anger or fear go. Sometimes it's letting go of a very powerfully strong attachment to someone and then we can move on...to wherever that might be.

I never saw "LOST" when it was on but binged watched this over the past month. Loved it, but wasn't that crazy about season 5 and part of 6 with all the time traveling, it was making me crazy. But this ending is superb. Great actors and Mathew Fox at the top of his game here. And then they all meet up and eternally live as the doors open and they go into the light / heaven..... Lots of emotional scenes throughout, but this last scene was a real tear jerker ! Wow ! OVERALL A FANTASTIC SHOW !

I recently just got into LOST and finished the series a few days ago. I remember years ago, people made such a big deal about the ending and how confusing and shitty it was. After finishing the last episode and seeing this scene I'm so confused as to why people were puzzled by this all. I understood immediately that they weren't all dead. This show is amazing. I'm so glad I decided to binge watch it on Netflix lol

All the characters found closure in the most meaningful relationships and friendships. They never died alone, because they learned how to live together and love each other. A powerful sense of resolution in the light of Love ❤

The GREATEST and most meaningful ending in television history. MEANINGFUL. It all came down to this. I never watched LOST for the answers but for the meaning. Faith, letting go and moving on.

I lost my Dad a couple years ago, and didn't get to say goodbye. Rewatched this scene and flooded with emotions. It's weird, watching things with fresh eyes and experiences, how they speak to you differently.

I’ve never ever cried during the finale of ANY tv-show. And I’ve seen them all, even underrated ones. But I cried like little girl after this final episode and I just couldn’t control my emotions and affection towards the cast.

The sharp inhale from Jack, coming to the realization that he died. The split second of weakness on his father’s face, being sad for his son. Then almost immediately being strong for him again! What a masterpiece!

No one realizes that Jacks real flashbacks only happens when he touches his Dads casket! His Dad is his most important figure in life. All the other characters had their own key figures. My God!..... it took me this long to figure this out. And I’ve watched this ending dozens of times.
