In this heart-wrenching 2 part docuseries, we delve into the depth of Tasmania's wilderness in search of Nicola Sallese, a man who vanished from his home in Tasmania on November 17, 2008 - a sorrowful anniversary eight years after his wife's passing due to cancer. The story you are about to witness is one of a father's love, a son's unyielding hope, and an enduring search to bring Nicola home by Dan from Downunder Search and Recovery along with his good friend William McIntosh.

Nicola's disappearance, at the age of 69, sparked a mystery that has gone unsolved for the past 14 years. Today, at 83, his whereabouts remain unknown.
His son, undeterred by the passing years, is a part of this journey, seeking closure and the chance to put his father to rest. The search has seen the family and local community come together, searching roads, hiring helicopters, and even utilizing drones to check rivers and roads across the state.
Nicola Sallese, originally from Vinegar Hill, was an adoring father and a loving husband who moved to Australia in the early '60s. He was a dedicated employee at the hydro and a loving caretaker for his wife when she fell ill. But as his early onset dementia began to show, Nicola's life was set for change. This is the story of his life, the love he shared, and the mystery of his disappearance.
Join us as we follow the advice given about his potential actions and the reality of his condition. We search through mountains and across valleys to clear ponds and bodies of water. Alongside the emotional struggle is the physical strain of spending weeks in the wilderness. Despite the emotional toll, the team remains committed to finding Nicola.
Our journey has taken us from the local town to areas as remote as Cethana Lake. The explorations have been exhaustive, going through the mountainous regions, often in challenging conditions. We've explored every possibility, even theorizing about his Sunday drives and potential picnic spots.
In this episode, we return to Southport, following a lead from a tourist who reported seeing an elderly Italian man, matching Nicola's description, driving a silver Camry. With his early onset dementia, could Nicola have mixed up his days and been trying to reach his son's house for a birthday party? Could a panic at the Southport boat ramp have led to a tragic accident?
Together with Downunder Search and Recovery and Bill McIntosh, we're leaving no stone unturned in the quest to find Nicola Sallese. This is a journey of hope, endurance, and determination. Join us as we bring you along in this search for Nicola. Stay tuned for an emotional ride through the wilderness of Tasmania.

As someone who lives in Tasmania I personally don't think you'll find him in water. I'm a hunter so I've been around in the thickest bush and have found cars just sitting out in the most random places you wouldn't expect. Also the fact that he was driving his car around the neighbour's paddock could've meant that he was testing to see how far his car could go and what it could do off road before getting stuck. Thanks to this video I'm going to take note of every car I find in the bush from now on. I really hope you do end up finding him.

Dan and crew…My dad apparently walked out of the family home in 1972 when I was only 5. No one knew why, what happened more where he went, he simply didn’t come home. Articles in the news paper over days n weeks asking if any one had seen him and that he may have been suffering depression never came up with any substantial info. Many searches by officials and helpful public were also done. Approx 8 weeks later two land surveyors were in the outer sth east suburbs of Perth in an area called Jarradale, roughly 60 klm away. It was semi bushland that way and they would have been land surveying for new suburbs to be opened up. Sadly they came across the remains of a body which were identified to be that of my dads by his initialed wallet, black rimmed spectacles, his watch and possibly remains of clothing. The body was too decomposed to ID and DNA wasn’t used back then. I so wished they had of kept some of his remains to test now tho, iv always wondered was that really dad who they found. I and my family still have no idea to what occurred and why dad just walked off n ended up that far from home, il never know and that kills me even still, I’m 57 now and it’s been 52 years but I wonder n wonder why or was it because of me some how…silly I know😔 Although he was not found in water ways I want to Thankyou for all the work n searching you and fellow divers, ground crew, camera dudes etc do to help find lost loved ones. I get quite emotional watching as it makes me think of dad..I have no memory of his being I was only 5. I just wished I could have had him longer to love and remember forever 🩵🙏🏻😔😢

We need to have conversations with our elderly parents. We need to understand when they are already at the end of their lives and when the spouse they lived has already passed. We need to let them know that these feelings are normal and that we understand. We may not can prevent a suicide but, we can prevent the person feeling like they had to hide their suicides.

I think the hardest thing about missing cold cases in Tasmania, not even just cold cases, missing people in general, is that about half of the entire state is forest/bush (either national park of plantation forestry). Just our small village alone we are surrounded by private forestry or national park land. I honestly think its a miracle any missing person is found in TAS, thinking of Shyanne-Lee Tatnell found recently in the bush and the sheer luck they were actually able to find her body being where it was, and they had evidence thats where she was. And Celine Cremer, still hasn't been found and its suspected she went missing near bush walking track too but no trace of her. The Australian bush and forests are so so dense, you walk less than a minute into the bush off the road and you cannot see the road anymore, you cant see what's in front of you or behind you, just a hell of a lot of trees and shrubs. Someone who accidentally went into the bush or slipped off a track, wondered further than they thought, or just inexperienced are going to get lost very quickly. Ive seen cars go off the Sideling and other similar passes and you cant see them, its like the forest has swallowed them and their cars whole, its so dense and wild that it doesnt even look like a whole entire car has crashed through it... And then theres the sink holes. Tasmania has an insane amount of sink holes, you lose control of your car off the road and end up in a sink hole and you'll never be seen again. How many people have been lost to sink holes? probably a lot more than we think!

Gosh you didn't leave many stones or ponds um-explored - such a shame Nicola wasn't found, but the journey was certainly beautiful. Thing with Tassie, there's so many wild places & shonky roads you could drive off of & no one would ever know. I find it very hard to imagine he would have ended up in Southport by mistake - and there are a zillion places he could have driven off the road... But, yes, People, keep your eyes open! There have been a few cases this year where people have gone off the road & it's been days before they were found - in UK, even in urban areas, so always worth keeping your wits about you. Thanks for all you guys do, & we hope Nicola will be found soon.
