@@Gmail.compey He might have been a better teacher (or possibly not) but Bob's range was extremely limited.

I believe they were both talented painters, but Bill was definitely the better artist.

When I paint, my hands, face, arms and pretty much everything else thereafter is covered in sticky dark green slime. Bill makes it look so easy. It is first a case of mastering the technique, then we can start to play around with the colours. 1st of Bill's key points here, is that you NEED to be so careful not to over brush after one stroke. if that brush picks up that dark green, you MUST wash the brush off. Don't be afraid, the Paper towel is your friend!!! 2nd; You need to thin the paint down as you layer up more onto the base colours, otherwise the tiny imprints and dots turn into flat mud. You can get away with it well when highlighting, using the magic white. 3rd; That thick paint is pretty much essential if you want to get that mirror-glossy water effect. An oily, runny paint will just wash away instantly. It's got to be thick so it can withstand that almighty single brush-stoke from the 2" brush. :) Something to bear in mind; as you continually wash your brush, it still retains some of the thinner in the bristles, which automatically thins your paint as you dab into the colours more on the palate. This helps to create a thinner coat as you put lighter colours over that dark base. Light touch, keep those dots and dabs of texture. Don't overdo it.

Amazing as usual. These discussion of bill vs bob are so dumb imo. First of all people be here judging lifelong artists for paintings they have to do in one hour on the tv, I’m sure their paintings take whole new dimensions with more time. Secondly while both use same style is it not possible to enjoy both for their differences ? I mean let’s be honest every single vid from either is once again a whole new level of inspiration by itself every time, just be glad you get to see Alexander’s And Bobs Art too.

There's literally _one_ comment on this video about the comparison. Still, you make a good point. Both are good. The difference is that Bill had intensity, and Bob a hypnotic friendliness.

My granddaddy used to watch bob ross all the time, he seemed to be more organized than mr alexander. Bill Alexander’s paintings look a mess while he paints it but by the end of the episode, it comes together and ends up looking better than bob’s paintings imo
