Hello LOST Fans!
Welcome to "LOST On The Couch", a reaction series to the hit 2004 ABC TV show LOST. I (David) have seen the show 7ish times all the way through and my friends (Audrey, Hassan, and Zola) have never seen it before!
I have always wanted to show my friends the experience that is LOST, so I decided I'd stick a camera in their faces and see what they thought of it! I also, with their permission, want to share it with whoever might be interested in watching it again through their eyes. After all, that is the closest us Losties can ever get to watching it again for the first time. ;)
I'm actually a musician and composer, NOT a video editor, so don't expect too much fancy editing, but I very much enjoy this as a hobby.
I sincerely hope you all enjoy these as much as I enjoy making them! Reach out to me in the comments if you have any suggestions, hopes, dreams, theories, advice, whatever. But NO SPOILERS!

If you guys pay close attention, there's a smoke monster noise in the background when the male spiders pop up and paralyze Nikki. Interesting.

I am leaving this comment before I watch. I cannot even explain how excited I am every time reactors get to this episode. It's its own little thing. Has nothing to do with the rest of Lost, but watching people react to the ending is nothing short of delicious. Can't wait to see what you guys think.

Yeah. Yyyyuuuuup. So. Satisfying. It's kind of like a philosophy exercise. You get to see how everyone feels about a gut-wrenching ending, everybody feels differently weird about it and no one who sees it can contain those feelings, they're like compelled to share. Five stars.

First of all, I love this episode. Such a great stand-alone “Who did it?” mystery that wrapped up perfectly. It’s very re-watchable too! It’s a fun ride for sure. And Billy Dee Williams? Hello?? Oh - And shirtless Paulo? YES PLEASE! Audrey: “I don’t have time for her!!!” I literally laughed out loud!!! The JOKES! Y’all have to stop! I’ve never laughed so hard at a reaction before. I’m LIVING for Audrey’s SHOCKED face! Nice callback, Zola! Remembering Jack’s dad’s shoe in the tree. I always love how Paulo’s like, “If I go up there, the plane will fall and I’ll die, DUH!” Audrey called it about the gum! *Claps for Sun!!* Hassan: “WHAT THE HELL? That’s morbid, man!” Haha so funny!! Nice catch on the smoke monster sound, Hassan! This was one of my favorite reactions ever!

I loved David's poker face when Audrey says: "" I think paralyzed" at the beginning of the episode!!! Well done Audrey. I love it when you guys make all these good guesses and David has to pretend like nothing has happened.

A few fun lines from the episode... Nikki to Zukerman: "I'm just a guest star and we all know what happens to guest stars." Nikki to Paulo: "Let's not poison ourselves." Nikki to Paulo (referring to Shannon and Boone): "Promise me we'll never end up like them." (and all four end up dead and buried in the same make shift graveyard on the beach.) Locke to Paulo: "Things don't stay buried on this island." Hmmm....

Zola has some of the best reactions. Love how much she’s into the show. Lost is one of those once in a life time shows. So creative and interesting. Holds up to this day. The more you watch. The more you see

I remember when I watched this episode for the first time and the ending got my heart racing SO fast when I realised what was happening. I got all nervy and shaky in a weird way and I couldn't shake the scene from my mind for weeks afterwards. Got to be one of the worst ways to die for sure but I'm glad they appreciated the episode and the crazy ending too!

Fun, entertaining episode. It's nice to see familiar events that occured on the Island from a new perspective. And it's also interesting to see what may happen to those who don't follow the "Live together/die alone" principle haha (those deaths are rough lol). But most importantly...RAZZLE DAZZLE!

It is good to see some Expose love from the Couch. I feel that it is an underappreciated episode. Audrey, congratulations! This is the first time I have ever seen a reaction where someone actually said "paralyzed" when Nikki says it.

The first couple times I re-watched Lost, this was the only episode I skipped because it didn't advance the story in any way, and I didn't care about Nikki and Paulo. It felt like one of those "clip" episode that TV shows used to have back then. But it's grown to become one of my favorite episodes to watch with reactors. It has so many good moments, from "Razzle Dazzle", which cracks me up every time, to the dark ending, and all the inside jokes in between. And I think you're the only reactors to notice that Vincent was trying to tell them something!

I like the little detail that Vincent knew Nikki and Paulo weren't dead and tried to uncover them....except you'd think he would have tried a little harder, or maybe tried to dig them up after they were buried. I guess, like the fans at the time, Vincent didn't like them that much either.

Who else heard the Smoke Monster right before Nikki got bit by the spiders? I’m pretty sure it was the Monster that killed her. What I liked about this episode was it resolved Charlie of his past sin back in season 2. I’m glad that he came clean and confessed. It was also great seeing Boone and Shannon again. 😌

This has become one of my most favorite episodes for what it actually represents. To me, this is the start of the 4th quarter (or down the backstretch, or the final lap) and things lead towards a finale-- after having to write Walt out of the series despite such high hopes after season one(growth spurt by Malcolm David Kelly after 1st season), writing out Mr Eko early in season 3 after really high hopes after season 2 (either due to Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje growing tired of working in Hawaii, far away from his home in London or family health issues), and adding Nikki and Paolo in season 3 (2 cast members that the writers had planned a lot of stories around were both gone) because there was still no end in sight until the utter ridiculousness of Achara hit the airwaves. This show hits the gas pedal and never lets off again.

Incidentally, Tallahassee is not just "a city" in Florida, it's the state capital. If you inform the crew, I'll bet that'll be a capital city they'll never forget. It'd be like the ultimate mnemonic device.

I know it turns out that Nikki said "Paralyzed" not "Paulo lies" but I was just noticing how many times Paulo actually does lie throughout the episode (mostly to Nikki). And, of course, it's also true that "Paulo lies....on the ground, paralyzed." heh-heh...

RAZZLE DAZZLE! It's an interesting pause from the main plot, with a stand alone mystery and some Lost touches (and even reveals). Some might call it a filler, but it was refreshing nevertheless, after heavy themes we needed other povs (deaths gives us shortage of povs). It's the everyman perspective to the island: only crazy (indoctrinated) people would climb for the plane, which incidentally covered the Pearl; they were in the background, benefitting from the main group crazy adventures, but confronting stranger was out of the question; they tried to have a private life, but the context was not ideal. It was the most answers filled episodes so far, I think!

On every re-watch I love this episode a little more every time. It's LOST meets The Twilight Zone! I'd take 10 of these over Stanger In a Strange Land any day. So happy to see it getting the credit it deserves in this thread. Razzle Dazzle!

I really like this episode. It’s like a random and darkly humorous Tales From The Crypt inserted into an ongoing show. Now I’m wondering what the show would be like if it were done in that style instead of Twin Peaks.

One of my fave episode! def not among the bests but it's a special episode and they made it very well with the construction and the story. Also had a chance to see some old faces and memories. A really fun episode that i enjoy every time.

This episode is great. Especially on rewatch because there are so many little tongue-in-cheek foreshadowings to their inevitable demise…. Probably not worth analyzing too much as I’m pretty sure this is the writers sitting around making fun of themselves post facto…

As always... North Americans confuse Brazilians with Hispanics. We Brazilians don't speak Spanish, we speak Portuguese, Pendejo. Haha Pendejo is Spanish. Paulo is from Brazil and the Word Brazil with Z would never be in a passport because Brasil is written with S in Portuguese. That was a mistake made by the show. Also, I believe most people didn't like Paulo and Nikki cause there was no introduction, they were just thrown into a scene out of nowhere, but there is a deleted scene in which Claire catches them having sex while checking for the origin of noises she heard. I think if that scene had been used, their fate would be totally different. Cause that introduction humanized them.

Not the worst episode, but not the Best either. Maybe not needed but glad we got it & definitely a refresher of past events. Truth is they could have killed Nikki & Paulo without the story but I'm glad we got it.

Nope, not tragic at all. Don't forget these two killed someone to steal from him. And they didn't share all the things they discovered because they were selfish and greedy, Nikki focused on the diamonds, and Paolo more focused on keeping Nikki. Just realized, a second time this season a character is trying to say 'paralyzed,' but can't fully say it.

I couldn't agree more! Yes other people have committed murder but their reasonings are a little more understandable, Sawyer thought he was killing the man that destroyed his parents and his life (he was instantly remorseful after finding out the truth), Kate killed her stepfather because he was abusive to her and her mother, Ana Lucia killed the man that tried to kill her and killed her unborn baby, not saying that makes it okay it doesn't but you get why they did it but these two used and killed a innocent man that seemed like a nice, good person and they showed absolutely no remorse, they talk about him a couple more times on the Island and they still don't care! Yeah and things could have gone differently, maybe changed some peoples fate if they had told people about the other hatch, the plane or even showed them the walkie talkie, Paolo flat at overhears Ben and Juliet talking about their plan and he couldn't be bothered. What happened to them was very disturbing because that is a terrifying way to go but tragic no way! Don't feel bad for them one bit! Oh and how stupid was Nikki? Again her greed and selfishness caused her to not fully pay attention when Artz said all the males will come because of the pheromone the female releases! Karma! I do love this episode, I love the whole who done it! It was great seeing Boone and Shannon again even though you can tell Shannon is wearing a wig! But the only thing that bugs me is they seem very different then we have previously seen them. Why would Nikki suddenly care at all about helping out earlier in the season? She never cared about being part of the group before and Paolo in this episode never shows him caring either or ever saying anything like this. These two were too selfish to care, so it really doesn't add up.

So did they start airing the season before they were even done writing and filming it? How else could they write and film this episode in response to fan reaction to Nikki and Paulo?

That’s correct. Nikki and Paulo were introduced early in the season (I think ep 3) and then there was a large break after Episode 6 where more writing and filming took place

They always wrote and filmed the seasons while they were airing, which is why there were many reruns/breaks during the first 2 seasons. They couldn't produce the episodes fast enough. That gave them some time to respond, but in season 3 they had a bigger head start and D&C said that they made the decision to kill off N&P before they even got the audience response.

I think Paolo took the diamonds just for his own greedy self. If it had been about not ruining the relationship with Nikki, he'd have tossed the diamonds in the ocean or something.

I think, like Paolo said, he was afraid to lose Nikki. If he gives the diamonds, Nikki could prefer them to him. If he puts them in the ocean and Nikki learns it, she will never forgive him. So he chooses the third option, to hide them hoping that Nikki gradually loses the will to look for them in exchange for love towards Paolo.

I have mixed emotions. I like the episode for what it is. A great filler, interesting side plot, a bit funny and a bit dark in the end. We see Arzt again, Ethan etc. But I think it's too much of a "Hey look, remember this scene/place? We have it here too." The conversation between Ben and Juliet about using Michael... nah. I didn't need that.

Frankly, I agreed with the concept of Nikki and Paulo - I mean, were we _really_ expected to believe that the roughly 25-30 other survivors _all_ pretty much just kept to themselves and virtually _never_ interacted with the main characters?? - but, alas, they were very clumsily introduced, which pretty much sealed their fate with many fans from the beginning... AND this was arguably the worst possible season to try and bring other survivors to the forefront, given how many characters were off doing other things/side quests throughout the season. 🤷♂️

I would disagree strongly, it was the season they started negociating with abc and didn't know how long would be the serie so it was a good timing to bring them in, it would fill some scenes and "useless stuff" to gain time and freeze the plot. They probably thought as the camp is a bit empty at that point that it was also a good timing to do that. they just didn't do it right.

So many people love this episode on this page. I can't stand it. I don't like the characters or the performances, and find the story inconsequential. The only reason to watch this episode is to see their deaths at the end.

And for Charlie's confession. I feel that him finally admitting what he did provides some necessary redemption for his character. Having said that, I love this whole episode! It's so tongue in cheek and meta and brilliantly self aware.
