Great video. I live in Tasmania now but miss Perth every day. 5th generation West Australian and always a sandgroper despite living here. Thanks for the memories.

I was a fan of 96FM myself, not so much 6PM. What a great place to grow up in. I was aged 8 to 18 in the 80s in Perth, I remember all of this

In the early 80s, probably because of the '83 America's Cup, Australian culture was all the rage in the United States. It's almost as if Americans "discovered" Australia. The most popular bands in America were Men at Work, AC/DC, INXS, and Icehouse. Australian movies like Breaker Morant, The Year of Living Dangerously, Mad Max, Crocodile Dundee, and Gallipoli were very popular. ESPN was showing the old VFL Aussie Rules league. And Australia became the most popular overseas tourist destination for American travelers. Those that could even emigrated to Australia. For a brief time, America wanted to be Australia. I don't think any other country held such fascination for so many Americans as Australia did.

Awesome nostalgia. Enjoyable for the folks in Gosnells even.. however holy sh$t they were not doing it as tough as the poor Eileen Bond et al. Spare a thought for her please.

No, the worst thing about the 80's was all that lame music. And cars turned into plastic piles of junk!

Yorkie. He ran his show on Radio 6PM by himself. Not like the useless lot now that need others to hold their hands.

80s wasn’t all that wonderful in Perth unemployment and poor wages were a main concern , once they closed the midland meat works a lot of people really struggled , but of coarse that was the working class areas , so get it right tell the whole story

From my recollections and personal experience I don't recall having any shortage of work. Not my experience this but if anything (perhaps due to WA Inc etc? ) I do remember a Lot of people being on the dole whilst living with a partner on the dole AND working at the same time, no paying tax, also plenty of work with "cash under the table".

@robertfoster7807 Actually, my daughter went there about 10 years ago . She was so terrified she called to come and get her. She stayed in Davoren Park.. Her friend told her there was a robbery and shooting a couple of hundred meters down her road.

@@chuckmaddison2924 its quiet possible adelaide gone down i was taliking about the 1980s in adeliade i found adeliade more freindly than perth in the 1980s and south australia more friendly than western australia.Western australia has always been the biggest police nany state. All the big cities in australia are less safe the 50 years ago..Probaly related to our disaster immigration policies in australia
