Step 1: Contact the Texas DMV.
You'll first need to verify your vehicle is eligible for a bonded title. You can do so by visiting your local DMV or you can call them at 1 (888) 368-4689.

Step 2: Complete and submit paperwork.
Fill out a Statement of Fact for Bonded Title Form: www.txdmv.gov/forms
Submit the Statement of Fact for Bonded title Form and the following to the DMV Regional Service Center: www.txdmv.gov/regional-servic...
• Bill of sale
• Copy of your photo ID
• Photo of the VIN (They'll also accept a pencil tracing (If you are unable to provide a photo or tracing of VIN, fill out Form VTR-270 State of Physical Inspection: www.txdmv.gov/forms
Step 3: Determine the value of your vehicle.
The state will send you a letter stating the bond amount you'll need.
The state uses the following methods to determine your vehicle's value.

If they can't determine the value of your vehicle with the above methods, they'll have a licensed motor vehicle dealer or insurance adjuster appraise the vehicle using Form VTR-125.
Your bond amount will be 1.5 x the value of your vehicle.
( If your vehicle is valued at $3,000, multiply this number by 1.5 to get the bond amount you need, $4,500.)
Step 4: Get a surety bond.
Contact your insurance agent for assistance with a Certificate of Lost Title Surety Bond.

Step 5: Fill out Application for Texas Title and/or Registration: www.txdmv.gov/forms
Step 6: Submit bond and paperwork to your local county tax office.
Submit the following to your local county tax office:
• Application for Texas Title and/or Registration
• Statement of Facts for Bonded Title Form
• Bill of Sale
• Copy of your photo ID
• Picture/tracing of VIN or Form VTR-270 State of Physical Inspection
• Certificate of Title Surety Bond
If everything is accepted, you'll be issued a new title with a bonded branding.
