@@wazl it is called a WISP, which stands for Wireless Internet Service Provider. It runs on a radio signal and line-of-sight with their equipment. In my area there are two companies, Open Broadband and Eastern Carolina Broadband (I live in eastern North Carolina). Eastern Carolina got to me first, so they get my business.

They need to fix champions. No other class needs a rework as bad that class does. Champions are literal trash in end game.

Very good breakdown. I started the game in early beta (friend of mine worked for Turbine) and spent my beta time playing Burglar and Captain. My friend was involved in the design of the Warden class and I jumped into it quickly after it launched. My Burglar and Warden both managed to be successful in pretty much all instanced content through Great River. In fact, we did the hard mode Sword Halls instance with a Captain, Rune-Keeper and Warden -- with my Warden tanking it. I have a great deal of fondness for both Burglar and Warden though I enjoy all classes. I'm playing on Treebeard now and have multiple lvl 60s waiting for Mirkwood to release.

I played LOTRO from launch until around Mirkwood (when game went F2P), and am just now thinking about returning. This guide was invaluable in catching me up on all the changes to the classes and overall meta of the game. Great video!

Good stuff, for class lists like this I suggest a tag for each class regarding good classes for beginners vs experts. Beginner tank guardian, expert tank warden, etc.

I wish I had seen this video before! I made a Loremaster as my main and first char (Still is) in 2014 and boy I have a super hard time learning to play, wish I'd have picked hunter or minstrel, since I just wanna quest and do landscape and level quickly haha

I have a hunter at lvl cap and a Champ that will be my main now and he is lvl 105 and man can slaughter and take a hit too. Great video

Really hope that warden tanking rework comes soon... Being a warden tank was my primary class and role back in the day and I hurts to see them hurting as bad as they are.

The Warden is an awesome class and difficult to master. I use to go around and find Warbands that were suppose to take a fellowship to defeat and beat them solo with my Warden. When the Warden was first introduced, the Yellow line was actually the tanking/threat line and a spec'd and well played Warden could take threat and hold threat even against a tank spec'd Guard, but when they went to the skill trees a few years ago, they changed the yellow line to ranged attacks and seriously nerfed the Warden's ability to generate and hold threat.

When I was playing this 10 years ago, I usually healing with my Captain and my Burglar friend as tank lol We often do that even on high tier small fellowship dungeons, it so much fun. Even he loses aggro, I can take the damages as Captain have higher defense than Minstrel/Rune Master. I don't how those instance works now, I just come back playing again after 10 years :D But I think I'm just wanna do the quests, because I'm still active on other MMO.

will there be an update on this? on a side node i used to play a warden a few years back and when i haven´t played for a while i noticed that i forgot a lot of combos for him so that feels somewhat of a badpoint for warden that you have to play regularly to not forget his combos, otherwise that class is huge fun and my favourite so far (haven´t tried every class yet like captain

Very nice overview. The only thing I would've liked to see is an assessment of difficulty level for each class. As far as I understood it, most classes are able to be played even in their "off specs" up until level 105, and then scaling messes it all up. Like Warden can tank up to Mordor, Lore-masters can play with an emphasis on pets, etc. I'd love for the devs to fix this or make at least 2 specs/roles per class viable (at endgame).

@@Louey7 That is great! Fun fact: Before I watched your video I decided to play Warden (returned recently). Nice to see that you gave the Warden some extra time. As a Hobbit fan (my Warden is a Hobbit of course), I was almost insulted that you showed the Burglar not as Hobbit ;-) But I guess for min maxing Men still are the best choice for Burglar.

I know this is just a general synopsis of all the class but heres a bit of info about the class I've mained since the start. And thank you for creating content about the game we love. Late 2019 (mainly Red) Captain got a massive damage buff which has made leveling SO much easier, even prior the only issue I've had leveling any of my Captains(My main since launch, alts with friends, legendary server, and PvP server) was in Rohan, otherwise the class is fully capable of doing everything any other classes can, atleast while leveling. With Blue Line Captain it is a very strong healer able to pull the same if not higher numbers than most other healing classes of equal gear, its weakness falls in not being able to heal effectively without being able to hit something, aswell as having little to no DR(Damage reduction) to put on the tank. Forcing them to either let the tank die and use their rez or chance death itself with "In Harm's Way" from Yellow.

I play yellow line minstrel and I feel like it's more of a support off-tank, at least that's how I play it lol, running in the middle, often taking aggro and doing AoE damage with a lot of self heal and shield

Great guide and exactly what I was looking for as a returning player. It's been years since I've played but was really looking forward to playing a guardian and tanking...now I'm afraid I'll be wasting my time. I hope by the time I get max level, things will change.

Balance will likely change by then at the least... I (and many other players) would hope in favor of Guardian tanks. It can also tank a long while to get to the level cap, so I think there is a good chance Guardians will be in a better spot tank-wise.

Hi this is not about classes but I really hope someone can help me fix this. Is there any way to change the size of the text in the menu? I was able to rescale my UI but when I try and change the resolution it makes everything so small I can't read the quests or tooltip. Thanks!

Not to repeat all the 'what class to play' questions ..... a question - my kid started playing LOTRO, wanted a 2hander melee character - so I suggested picking a Guardian. now - are there any classes that (in a certain build) would go well together with guardian while leveling? .. I know - the game is easy with any class, but still - any fun ideas? Hunter is good for getting around, of course, but is there anything else for such a duo setup? and I'm not aiming at endgame, ... just casual leveling .. and I guess both could be melee - so (like with hunter) mobs would not be all dead before guardian gets to them.

Hunter it is, safe clears from a distance, teleportation to many zones by leveling and questing, just dont pull too many mobs

Hunter is most often recommended class for that! It offers good ranged damage and lots of travel utility!

Late reply, but... You won't need to go out of the game any more for LOTRO than you would any other MMO. Which is to say, if you want to get the most out of whatever class you're playing, you will likely need, or want, to look at some guides. But that's for game play only. For story.. I mean, reading the books should be required, imo. Hobbit was one of the books on my summer reading list as a kid. Glad it was, too.

Being a Paladin guy in WoW, its the Captain for me here. Do it all (tank, dmg, heal) but stays in the background 💪 Edit: Minstrel also my class of choice 💪

Lore master is basically a wizard yes but not inspired by Gandalf and Radagast it says so with the lotro lore description. Elrond is the inspiration

I'm surprised Elrond is considered the inspiration because of obvious draws from both Gandalf and Radagast, but less so from Elrond... There are even forum posts about this exact subject! This got me interested, so for more details: LMs are required to have a staff to cast their spells (drawing from perhaps the most popular LOTR character, Gandalf). I haven't seen the films too recently, but in The Hobbit, Gandalf is seen using what is essentially LOTRO's Burning Embers (albeit this came out _after_ LOTRO). Radagast is also known for his connection with animals, nature, and the such which are all core parts of the Lore Master class (with all the nature-based, often animal pets). There are parts I can see from Elrond, but on the surface for people less familiar with the franchise, it seems Gandalf and Radagast would be obvious inspirations ahead of Elrond?

@@Louey7 I think that when they invented the Lore Master, they where more interested in being lore friendly. So they did a lot of mental gymnastics to make them "technically not wizards" when they clearly are.

Currently, probably not much at all. For smaller instances, their AoE is quite liked, and for larger ones/boss fights/raids with current balance, their ST damage is supposed to be good as well.

The only issue if you try to get into a group with a champion will be if you're undergeared. That is hardly ever the case in the t1 content. Stair battle at t1 is doable with gear as low as 405-418. 426 gear, which you get from that instance, seals the deal for you and a full set will even get you to some of the t2 6 man content, which in turn gives you 428 gear. It's a very straightforward process, so you shouldn't worry

Hi, you have 4 free zoness to quest and gain Lotro Points with Deeds tha you complete during game. You for starts should folow Prologue quest and Epic book quest. Use your Free zones till you around lvl 30. You can unlock Gold cap, and riding skill and get your 1st horse in bree to move around.

@@rowefury268 the expancions will onlock permanently in account, the vip will give you quests and upgrade your account but you still need the expancions. You can skip some areas but i advise to buy Expancion Trove. Sometimes there are in sales but if you whant to stsr tight off its a good way to save time and money. And check youtube for what vip vs f2p gives to have an idea. If you Join a Kinship in game helps alot to learn what stuff is better. You can buy some stuff in gama Lotro Store with Lotro points earned in game as well so keep that in mind. I Pay on Evernight server If you are in same you can add me TankerPT

From my (very limited so far) experience, I can say that both the Hunter (blue line) and Captain (any line, really) are both very pleasant to play. Even though I like the theme of the captain a lot, I'm probably leaning towards my hunter a bit more, simply due to the excellent mobility and versatility. For that reason I'll be trying out the Beorning and Warden soon, as they're about to become available for free. Dunno, I just like classes that can move fast even without a mount, and fight on the move.

@@cursedaim8974 hi is it really f2p cuz i played it 2-3 maybe even more years ago and i remember that you needed to buy things for real moey ,yes i mean lotro(ofc you could obtain them byy playing but..) points like bags, riding skill, bank , auction house... And other things that should be really free.. and this killed my determination to play this game sadly.I paid like 15 € to get vip so i could obtain more gameplay but then it wanted money to go to other location also ( questline) too. So i stopped playing.

Do you mean VIP? Premium doesn't do much and it's not something you can "buy". It is an account status change whenever you spend any amount of real money on LOTRO.

I am having a really tough time deciding which class to main. I know I want to be ranged, and I will play essentially 99% solo, only grouping when necessary or do a dungeon to see it. I prefer magic based classes that have some kind of self-heal. That being said, I don't like being tooooo squishy, and like mobility. I've heard RK is mobile but can be squishy. Minstrel I've heard is pretty slow to dps with but survivable. And I've heard LM pets are pretty bad later on, making the class really squishy. I have a Hunter, but I'm not sure how I'll feel not being a caster. It's still ranged damage, at least. And of course, being able to travel more easily is nice. And Warden seems really cool, but it's not really a caster. If anyone has any insight on what they'd prefer for basically solo gameplay that's survivable but isn't too slow on damage (and has hopefully at least a little mobility), I'd appreciate the advice!

I use yellow line in solo, it just seems to do more dmg then red pine. Red line doesnt help you if you fight stronger enemies, you die too fast. Yellow line makes you tanky enough to survive and kill mobs above your level.

@@lvsoad22 Omg, true, I refer to bard. I only watched the bard part, forgot he did other classes. The tankiness you get from yellow line allows you to beat higher level enemies and progress faster. Its what I used for leveling. I tried red, but I died too fast. And could not do enough dmg unless I grind levels.

Is this game worth playing? If you like Old school mmos? I do not enjoy the modern types that much

If looking for melee, Champion is mainly straightforward DPS, or for ranged Hunter is mainly straightforward DPS. If tactical/spellcasting, Rune Keeper is DPS, but could also heal.

I enjoyed the game but i completely detested the way Standing Stone games nickel and dime you to death...Just $2.95 for this, only $1.95 for that, $3.95 to get this upgrade, want more than 4 items in your house yard, that's right, only more money, $8.95 Over and over....it was the BUSINESS MODEL that drove me away with nickel and dime tactics

Want to buy a mount? Money Want to leave the tutorial every time you start a new toon...yep..gotta PAY to leave the tutorial you've already done several times or bite the bullet and do it every time you try a new toon If you go in with the expectations of spending $200-$300 dollars a year, it isnt so bad. I'd rather pay a monthly fee and get all this as part of "full paying subscribers"

the gambit system of wardens is not unique its just a basic combo system that has been done before in wow and warhammer online among others

Guards are underrated imo. They might not be as versatile for 3 man's, or even 6 man's. But I'll gladly go head to head with any captain in a 12 man as tank. I will however admit, effective use of a guardian takes a good bit of skill, you gotta know the class to a greater degree than some other classes. And it's for this reason, a lot of guardian players do not do the class justice.

Lotro Dev 1: Ok we have 10 classes Lotro Dev 2: We have 0 class balance; the community really wants us to work on this. Exec: Ok I know, release a new class. Dev 1: Huh! How will that help. Exec: It will make us more money! Money makes us happy Dev 2: how will that help the community? Exec: The who? They've even said they have put class balance on hold while they work on the Brawler! It really make no sense at all.
