I've played since open beta and have tried every class except the new Brawler. I started off as a Hobbit Burglar which I loved very much! When I reached end game (level 50 at that time), I then switched to Minstrel and started playing him until end-game. then I brought my Lore Master with the same Modus Operandi, and then finally Captain. I then dabbled in all the other classes. Since then I've learned learned that my favorite classes were either healing or support. Hence my love of Captains, Runekeepers, Minstrels, Loremasters, and Burglars. Now, in 2022, I mostly focus on Captain and Runekeeper. Throughout my LotRO "career" I've taken breaks, server-hopped, and never reached the new level cap and only barely started the Mordor expansion before taking another break. Even now I dabble in other MMOs - mostly WoW at the moment but also dip into Black Desert Online and did Arche Age for a long time - not anymore, though. In opposition to your opinion, the Warden is my least favorite as it is very complex with the Gambits. I tried very hard to learn it but...yeah. Back to Captain and Runekeeper, hah! However, I freely admit that I love Wardens who know their Gambits when I'm in a fellowship (her name is Bakeapple in-game and I'm going to try to convince her to set up a character on Arkenstone)!!! Speaking of Arkenstone, once Anor opens up free transfers I'm going to move all my guys there to Arkenstone and hope to join the Brightlife Guild! I absolutely love your content!

Solo captain is hilarious. He's a guy who tells another guy to kill monsters, then gets all the credit.

A nice over-view/speculation on the classes, I like the "Become immersed in your hero" advice, and I'm a true believer in the "Fun-ta-play over the Meta-Play" I've been working on 1-20 beginner guides for the classes recently. You should try the classes out, I think it would solidify some of your speculations into a more grounded opinion, and you could use your actual gameplay rather than Louey7's and FulcrumN7's. Really dig this video. So great to see kind of a complete breakdown on each class, not JUST gameplay, not JUST lore, I actually feel like I got a MUCH greater explanation of them. Especially since, coming from WoW, a lot of the subtle differences are really lost on me!

Solo-ing with a Runekeeper is crazy. You really have to plan out the whole fight if you're going up against bigger enemies. The fact that almost all their heals are HoTs means that you can initiate with a ton of healing, which will hopefully carry you through your DPS phase. It's almost like you're a boss yourself, with phases and stuff ^^

Great intro to each class. I am excited and ready to hop back into LOTRO after a 7 year hiatus. Beorning sounds like my jam.

The Minstrel seems like a much more engaging class than the typical D&D Bard. But, as Im lookin to jump into this game as a Noob, the Lore Master seems intriguing. I really enjoy playing Controller classes.

Great breakdown. Used to play LOTRO - was in fact in Beta years ago and own a lifetime account. When I first played I was a Lore-Master, but the Beorning soon became my favorite as they can solo group content rather easy. Have not played in about 2 years, but might make a journey back. Great breakdown.

I played a RK in the day and it was the only other healer at the time and the only one that could heal well enough to replace a bard.

Love the warden bro!! My favourite and new main, has been for a few years! But as for they can kinda tank? Mines a main tank, love tanking as a warden! So much fun 😜

My main is a Man Burglar. I'm that guy who plays as a human in d&d, call me short on imagination. Burglar is my favorite class as well, as I greatly enjoy the stealth, utility and crit chain mechanic. The support elements are also very fun on those rare occaisions you find a fellowship.

Guardian is the real deal when it comes to having mobs on you ! Absorbing and reflecting damage ,also healing with your blocks if in blue line can give you advantages with multiple mobs on you. Also for DPS and solo you can go with 2H Axe, Hammer or Sword and deal alot of Damage with Bleeds that will kill Foes much Faster and give you a complete diferent feel of the class. Defenetly recomend it ! No hard content will be done if there is no Tank around. RedLine spec is now a decent DPS too . So you shose your path! Good Luck!

the only game that has a similar class as Minstrel, that comes to mind, would be the Bard class from original Ever Quest (or more known as Ever Crack) lol. now the Bard wasn't as strong as a Healer in Ever Quest they were a "jack of all trades, and master of none" (most played them as a solo class strictly for PvE content outside of Raid groups). but when players decide to start a meta, some classes get snubbed, instead of giving them a chance to show how they can be helpful. but that is the life of some player classes in a mmorpg game. I just wish players would have an open mind. I wish organizers of raid parties would do more thinking outside the box. and not just figure out 1 Strat and never change.

Love the enthusiasm and the overall vibe. Used to play LOTRO ages ago and still feel it was one of the better MMOs out there. This has me almost wanting to re-install it and see if I can recall my PW! I just wish they would give the game a graphical overhaul...it's well past due.

as a main Guardian you can use 2 handed weapons and do great dps as well

After I joined the Brightlife community and found out that there was a kinship on Arkenstone, I started a new character there :)) I'm really into lore, escpecially in lotr(o), so I sometimes make characters more from a lore- and character fantasy-perspective, than from a gameplay one. This time, I started character creation from the pov of "i want to play a human from rohan", so after some thought I decided on her being a warden, bc it seemed the closest to the Rohirimm for me, with the small shield and spear for melee and the javelins that could be thrown from horseback. (it'll be fun when she gets a war-steed lol) It's actually really fun to, from that starting point, further discover her character and story, all the while exploring middle earth ^^ For wardens in general, I love the idea of Gondorians (remind me a bit of the tower guards of minas thirith) or Rohirimm or High Elves (especially if they hail from Gondolin), bc the wardens for me, seem to be based on the ancient greek hoplites a bit, so kind of warriors from an ancient time, and in the silmarillion, i think, there is even a mention of a phalanx of King Turgon Another class that I love from a lore viewpoint for high elves is the minstrel. I don't think I have to explain this a lot. For how I interpret Tolkiens Legendarium, music seems to have some innate power, and high elves, who have seen the beauty of the Two Trees and Valinor in general, have a way of tapping into that power. First, look at Luthien (she is not a direct high elf, but she's half-maia, so i guess the point still stands), and secondly, I feel like that tapping into power through music is intertwined with the innate power that high elves also seem to have. So yeah, this was a bit of a lore rant coming from me Have a nice day everyone ^^

There is a Bard in FFXI, he plays music to give great buff and debuff, and some heal. My favorite class with dancer (can give better heal).

So far Loremaster, RK as Healer, Brawler and Champion are the most fun classes for me. Overall this game did a great job making all classes somewhat enjoyable which I didnt found in any other game so far.

When I do try this game out i am going for Captain. I like the buff and decent damage part with a pet is always nice.

My brother was in a group as a minstrel with a champion and he had to stop healing and tank so they both could survive.

Well tehnicaly Captains main weapon and only he can use it is - Halberd ! My main and end game char is Lore Master , thay were very very squishy and hardly do any dmg ntill thay remade Legendary Item sistem , now heis great dmg dealer and buffer , im Friend of the Wild , i love my pets lol especily my Swampy - Bog lurker . And my other class is Captain , i really love it and i use Oathbreaker archer as bannerman . Really love this 2 classes

I've become so immersed in this game.. I am High Elf of Gondolin, born in the year 267 of the F.A. named Eärendros after his distant cousin Eärendil. Edit: Vanguard Saga of Heroes and EverQuest had minstrel bards who healed through song and music

The closest to a Minstrel that I know about is probably the Performers from SWG after the NGE update.

I like to experiment with all classes. I have one of each. Melee classes are my preferred style of gaming.

Any way of making the game playable? Came back after a year out or so and the lag is incredibly debilitating. Makes the game impossible to play in the new-ish areas.

Nothing compares to a guardian. All those *blocked* *deflect* *evade* *parry* against multiple enemies who just break their weapons into my mighty armor while I let em bleed to death brings manly tears into my eyes. And the best thing: If you run towards an enemy, the party follows. If you stop, they stop. No one with a brain and mind would dare to attack before the guardian decides to. He decides who gets attacked and focused, he tells you where to stand, act and breathe. And the healer has his eyes only on you because it's you who MUST NOT DIE AT ANY COST. Playing a tank is like being a demigod. Someone struggles against a few monsters? Don't worry the guardian rushes into the fight to save the day. It's beautiful. But only a person who LOVES responsibility should ever touch the guardian or any other tanking class. Beta males are all those dps who needs a leader which is YOU. Lore wise I would consider Aragorn as the tank, because he is the guy at the very front of any battle leading you to victory, even if outnumbered. His braveness is unparralleld and compared to no one else. Even gimli shat his pants several times, although he is also a real deal. Legolas is very sick too in regards of combat abilities, but he is no leader like aragorn.

The captain class is inspired by Aragorn, son of Arathorn... if Aragorn actually was a mediocre swordsman, took 2 hours to kill a single orc (not even mentioning a whole army of them) and his secret power was a fanboy waving a banner behind him and shouting "you can do it my lord... you're the best my lord... go go Aragorn go!!!" Seriously... I like the idea of the Captain as an idea but the execution of the idea in the game is soooooo cheesy... I can't bring myself to look at that banner holding minion behind me... it's so ridiculous... As for my favorite class, it's the hunter... hate legolas in the movies cause they make him look so op... but I love archers and really like the lore of the elven hunters of the forest... so my main is a hunter, always will be... but I also play a champion or guardian on the side (depending on my mood)... tried to play Warden, just couldn't get myself to level it past lvl 20... the gambits felt like a chore early and became annoying to me... building up the gambits over and over became too much work (wasn't hard... just boring)... next class I try to level is either a rune keeper of minstrel... not sure which one but one of the two.... I tried Loremaster but also didn't enjoy it at all...
