"I guess the best way to describe it is like one of those awful fairground rides."
Andrew Davies, one of the 47 Brits who was on the Boeing 777 flight which made an emergency landing in Bangkok, spoke to Times Radio about what he experienced as the plane dropped.

Cannot help but be very impressed at the apparent excellent organisation and readiness of the emergency services in Bangkok.

Also let’s appreciate the pilots and crew who kept their composure and got everyone through this apart from the poor gentleman who suffered a heart attack.

Modern travel, robs people of the reality of the dangers of what they are undertaking. In this case traveling several miles up in our outer atmosphere of our planet in a metal tube! As someone who took innumerable flights for work and pleasure, While I would listen to safety briefings with a casual view the one point I thought important for me was “keep your seat belt on at all times” . The airline in question is a very very good one and knows their business (of moving people around safely). Don't be put off of traveling but do think it as a riskier process than sitting in your living room! So pay attention

You are advised to keep your seat belt fastened at all times, and as a (very) regular flier in South East & Far East Asia turbulence I do! From my past experiences I am more worried about what might land on my head from the overhead lockers now that the majority of passengers hand carry their luggage!

This is why I stay seated (if possible, and usually for the entire flight) with my seatbelt fastened. I'm a retired Travel Agent, and I know that turbulence happens.

As soon as there is a turbulence one should buckle themselves all the time. As a traveler i can see some persons just ignore the sign even when one sleeps.

I think so many people are overreacting to this. How many thousands and thousands of flights were there without this sort of occurrence before. Its safer to be in a plane with no seatbelt, than wearing one in a car

I travelled the same route two weeks ago, and we were caught in a similar event for 20 minutes. The plane bounced around and shuddered, then dropped without warning. Drinks and coffee were everywhere. It seems to appear in the same area. The young girl next to me kept gripping my arm. Would I fly again, of course?

That's the thing that no one wants to talk about. This kind of incident is obscenely rare, astronomically rare. How uncomfortable do you want to make your passengers for every hour of every flight worldwide for the sake of being prepared for once in a decade or more incidence of 'no warning turbulence'. Besides - even though it might be good at selling news headlines, the truth is that the gentleman who died could just as well have had that heart attack standing on the street in London, running for a bus // sitting at home eating dinner. The conflation between causation and correlation that's happening between the man's heart attack and a bumpy flight is more than just a little bit bizarre to those of us who have an IQ above room temperature. He would have had that heart attack in the next year in some other setting in some other scenario. It certainly wasn't caused by Singapore Airlines or any fault of theirs.

And this is, why experts and experienced travellers always keep their seatbelts fastened, even if the sign is off. Coz u can always hit unexpected turbolence.

You do not have to give people a choice. Unless you are going to the bathroom, there is no reason not to have your seatbelt on.

As the interviewee stated...it was over in seconds. The turbulence didn't last 3 minutes over 6,000 feet. That information from Flight Radar was the plane starting its normal descent (diversion) to Bangkok. The drop was a maximum 50 to 100 feet tops.

I am absolutely amazed to hear that the CEO of this Mickey Mouse of an airline has announced that MEALS WILL NO LONGER BE SERVED DURING TURBULENCE !! .. !! Where oh where has he been all these years in the airline industry ? I have been flying for many years and not once did I have a meal served during turbulence although I did once have a very nice dinner whisked away when bad weather ahead was announced. The CEO should board the next flight back to Disneyland LA or wherever he is from as the captain and crew should NEVER have allowed this situation to have arisen in the first place. I myself, family, friends and business colleagues would NEVER fly with them again and I hope a lot of intending passengers will also take this same decision - WHAT AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE TO PUT SO MANY PEOPLE AT RIXK BUT THANK THE LORD THE AIRCRAFT WAS ABLE TO STAY INTACT !!!!!!

Can't stand the exuses people give to defend the dangers of air travel and jet airliners. 'Very very rare' (enphasising) They can wash it any way they like, you're still trapped up there, you can't pull over to the side of the road, there's only so much pilots can do when a big airliner goes out if control, whatever leads to it.

sow hos fault is this ? now a days mostly western people they think they can do whatever they whant and not following the safety rules. So those who are flying arround in the cabin on this flight are those who dont use a seatbelt. No wonder that old british guy died after the turbulence.
