scannable is a great way to deal with handouts! you can scan it into a pdf and import it to notability and later print out if it needs to be turned in!

You can get a paper like screen protector for the iPad pro and it feels just like paper and it's kind of matte finish so it's really nice for writing on the screen and it saves your screen from getting damaged from you constantly moving the pencil on it

A suggestion regarding handouts. Just take a picture/scan the handouts by your iPad and file them digitally, then give the paper copies back to your tutors. I sometimes take a picture while on notability and the handouts become part of that subject/ unit. That way you also won’t lose anything!

I just got the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 and am going paperless this semester. Think I'm going to use One Note, but this video was super helpful even for me. Just seeing how people use these types of products to their fullest extent makes me feel like I'm making the best choice, especially since I'm a STEM student. I know I said you should maybe make a few less perfect videos and your vlogs were great but I have to say your ability to produce really professional, perfect sit down talk to camera videos like this is second to none and you seem to do it so effortlessly and the content is always new but useful. I would just perhaps suggest you shoot closer on your face like your older uploads to reduce background distraction. Also what you said about writing fixing ideas in your head is totally true, one of my lecturers told everyone to take handwritten notes even if they were thrown out at the end of the lecture as it made the topic stick.

I like this, because when you type you don’t really process what your taking notes on, while when your hand write you process it, so using an iPad Pro is nice and helpful.

Putting this out there, I’m an engineering student and I take my notes on the 2018 iPad that was $330 but is $250 on Amazon rn. Works great with the Apple Pencil. So great way to cut the price!

I’m left handed also, and I had already planned on getting the 2018 iPad to take notes in lecture. I just wanted it to take notes on, but I never considered that it would be better for left handed people. Now I’m super excited to be getting it in a few days. 😊

I know this late but there is a screen protector called Paperlike. It makes it feel much more like paper and is used by a lot of artists but I don’t see why not for writing too.

Hiii, im going paperless full this yearrr and i feel so conected with you i have scoliosis too, and that is one of my main reasons. Also last semester i only used recicle paper, i care bout my ecological footprint since like 6 years now but ive never went like to dedicated, i started with small things. I'm also a college student studying Information Technology or Computer Science with some Communication papers and have used Notability and Google Drive, its the perfect combination! I got mine in February this year. I love Notability as you can have 2 notes side by side or use the split screen function on an iPad Pro. I am like you I feel like I learn better with written notes and going paperless has not affected me at all, in fact it made more sense being an IT major. Another app if you're worried about losing your pieces of paper is Scanner Pro, its a paid app on the App Store, you can scan pieces of paper or pages of a book and it turns it into a PDF. Super useful if you have already annotated papers and then you can import the PDF into Notability!

I wanted to start using and ipad in my classes cuz i used to print all the powerpoint slides which was nice to write notes on but very messy and makes a lot of waste. I was looking for some good reasons to invest on one, glad i saw ur video. Thank you it helped a lot!

One year ago I bought an iPad Pro, an Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard. At first I didn’t feel comfortable writing with the Apple Pencil and I only used the keyboard to take some notes and read papers. Six months ago I decided to take a step further and started using the Apple Pencil to takes notes. At the end of the semester I realized I haven’t used a single piece of paper and everything was stored on the cloud. I also kinda like to see how everyone else struggles to keep their stuff in order and mine is organized.

I use One Note both on my surface tablet and MacBook Pro. Many people are always telling me "why do you have 2 computers?" So most of the time I feel very self-conscious of taking out my tablet and computer at the same time.

I used my iPad pro for note taking in school. You can use the camera and a scanner app to scan your handouts. Or you can add them to your Photos and arrange them in albums. I used to use the stock Notes app and under my notes I'd add a photo of my handouts and type some keywords so I could search for them.

When I was in high school I used an INSANE amount of paper, I mean I'd have a whole box full of notebooks, worksheets, and other various papers I'd collected throughout the year. But my university gave all the freshmen iPad Pro's and Apple Pencils and it is a LIFE CHANGER. I used literally five sheets of paper last semester (and I do mean literally). Pro tip, you can scan handouts as PDFs using the stock notes app and import them to Notability and write straight on them. My professors also often upload their lecture notes on Canvas (online grade book) and you can download and use those in Notability as well. This was super important to me personally because I'm an environmental science major and there's nothing more important to me than being sustainable!

I loved your video. I have been considering getting an iPad Pro and Apple pen for some time now. It's a struggle for me, because I also really want a vintage circular sock knitting machine, and I don't have the budget for both. lol.. time will tell which one wins out. I'm not a student, as a matter of fact I'm a retired senior, but I do take notes at meetings. I was watching a lady in our congregation taking notes on her iPad Pro and I really want to do that too. She used an app called Noteshelf 2. I have a box of filled notebooks at home, and at some point I will not have any more room for notebooks. My mother-in-law had scoliosis and lived with a severely crooked back all her life. In those days, they didn't have the amazing medical treatments that they have now. Like you she was an amazingly beautiful person and she never let her scoliosis stop her from being a hard worker. She was one of the hardest working women I've ever known in my life. I can tell that you will be successful at your studies at school and you will go on to a successful career. All the best to you.

If you're an art or computer major I really recommend the surface pro since it has full adobe :) Also OneNote is a great note taking tool for both.

Did you notice a change in your grade or just overall a benefit to the way you study by going paperless? I'm in college and a stem major and considering going paperless as well because I'm left handed and the desk were just not made for left handed people lol.

If you have all Apple products, you can access these notes you’ve taken on your other devices (I use OneNote - OneDrive so I can access from anywhere and anytime in addition to my my personal devices). I switched to paperless mid-semester and LOVED it. I loved that I could write with any type of pen and/or color (I love to get creative) with just my Apple Pencil.

im also a stem student at york u, ive been paperless for 2 years now. im glad i did because my backpack is light ( no notebooks or heavy textbooks) ill just buy the pdf version which is cheaper. its easier to study on the go.( i dont carry heavy text books , my ipad is safe from weather changes, and i dont lose or crumple my notes.) i can also easily access the internet in my lecture, which is important because my lecturers seem to always refer to the internet for extra knowlegde. and im able to take note right on the slides with the apple pencil. so i recommend it. my friend whos also a stem student got an ipad when he saw hoe beneficial it was for me.

honestly my focus in class is better -- I saw in increase in grades in classes I don't care as much about because I paid better attention! if that makes sense

I use the smaller 1st gen ipad pro and it is so useful for my math and physics classes. I think I wouldn't do as well without it. I take it to all my classes and it can even fit in a larger purse, so I'm more likely to decide "hey why not do some physics hw questions" while i have 5 minute downtime since I always have my notes, textbook, and pencil with me

My grades improved as well! Having everything on my iPad really helps my organization. I use goodnotes and can take pictures of the handouts and put them in my notes, and from there can highlight and annotate the hand outs.

I am a fairly paperless student as well and I use the miscrosoft surface go and onenote. But the 1 thing I never thaught about until watching your video was the accordion folder. I usually just fold the papers in half hamburger and then toss them in my backpack. So thanks very much for that.

Great video !! sometimes writing the lecture in a normal notebook, when you lost it... it means you lost everything, mine got lost after 2 month of starting new semester /cries /sorry for my english

For the handouts and worksheets I scan them using the iPad camera and save them into notability. And I don’t need the actual sheet to carry. If you don’t like the picture you can scan it using a document scanner and it will definitely be clearer. My only issue is backing up. The app notability claims to be backing up to my drive but it’s not. Just to make sure I force save/backup a copy. An extra step but piece of mind
