You co create the recipe, walk the land together gathering ingredients, cook the meal and eat it together, all the while sharing the experience. As you clear away you allow the client to speak and express whatever comes up. I am lucky enough to have for 7 yrs an excellent psychologist. Now I am finishing my own training. I also will be workung with people who have what I have. 30 yrs experience of chronic pain. Hopefully I have more than technique...

I really enjoyed this thank you for posting. For what it’s worth, I’m in the Masters of Psychotherapy and Counseling at Western Sydney University and that course really emphasises all the key points in this presentation.

Great conversation about the role the therapist plays in the art and science of psychotherapy. Maybe wouldn't be bad to change the channel name to The Art and Science of Psychotherapy actually, wink, wink, haha. Cozolino's book The Neuroscience of Psychotherapy was a great validator of the humanistic work I often implement in my work with my clients as well as insightful to other aspects of psychology. I believe this conversation is a very important one to have especially in a time when many schools are pumping out master degrees to young therapists in less time, with less training and less emphasis on the importance of also working on oneself. Thanks for this!
