Was in a mall in france last weekend and took off my headphones, which were playing Steely Dan, to hear this cover of a Steely Dan song playing on the speakers. Surreal moment

Heard this earlier tonight on Radio 2 while working out in my garage gym, and it gave me quite a lift. Chilled vibes like this are great right now. Lou Hayter is smooooth 😎

Where is the bridge (the best part of the track?) Makes no sense that you would leave that out of a cover. I appreciate the attempt, but this just doesn't work for me.

Sorry, it's not for me :( It's like they've taken the original song, took out the bassline (which is like taking Freddy out of Queen), added a pro-tools eques bass line, sampled a few seconds from the drums and added a vanilla drum loop from Billie Jean and then added the vocals which for me, don't suit the song at all. It's great to emulate the 80's songs, but having grown up in the 80's, it just seems a bit souless.

Compared to the original this is a lazy piece of work. Supermarket Dan.

Come on all the life has been sucked out of this song with this version. It’s just cold and straight and lacks any real emotion. I mean it is not terrible but by no means does it even come close to the standard of the original. They seem to also have dumb the cords down a little bit and not given the richness of the voicings that Donald Fagen gives his keyboard to give it that sound. All in all it’s OK and a good attempt but far from the original
