The '40 Ford Deluxe coupe is probably one of the top most gorgeous American car ever produced. It's one of those models that you can say the designers and engineers reached perfection. From stem to stern, grill, dash, and legendary flathead 8, it's a real gem. This example is beyond "nice". it's IS the nicest original example I have ever seen - and I've seen a lot!

My grandfather, God rest his soul used to call cars "machines". Before he got his "new car" a 1955 Ford he had one similar to this,. I was just a kid so I'm not sure if it was a 1940 or not. He was born on a farm near Charlotte SC in the late 1800s and he made the best grits LOL. Anyway, Lou thanks for an interesting video of this time machine and the memories. Your videos are making my "shelter in place" a lot more fun.

It would be sacrilege to hot rod this beautiful piece of WW2 era US Ford DeLuxe...thanks Lou. I particularly liked the cloth interior and the wood inlay. Also isn't that heater a gem with the little baked enamel doors. I had to mention the early plastic(bakelite) window winder and dash controls and the flat head 8, 6 volt engine, smooth as silk... This car is a gem and to the really nice and friendly lady who lost her husband, thanks for letting Lou film your car. :-) Mike in Australia.

Yeah Lou, The way the hood was cut into the fender caught my eye. Most hoods and fenders lay perpendicular. This one fit like a jig saw puzzle with a added cut. I wonder if it was the design of Edsel Ford and E T Gregorie (sp)who were active during those years. I know a detail like that would have added to production costs. giving Henry fits

Beautiful car Lou my Uncle had one identical to it back when he was in high school. It was the same color and my grandpa had bought it from a man who used it to haul moonshine here in Oklahoma. He drove it through high school and college and parked it in my grandpa's barn when he joined the Navy in 1962 I think. And it sat in that barn until about 10 years my Uncle and cousins dragged it out and took to my cousins house. It would cost more to restore it than my Uncle wants to spend but I'm hoping maybe my cousin will fix it up someday.

Like a step back in time! Flawless and beautiful! Now that my friend is a handsome car, inside and out! Those cars were built. Ya could run over a drunk cow and never dent it. Okay - I know that's an overstatement - because cows don't get drunk. :-)

It IS a beautiful, well preserved car and the lady IS a lady as well. I read the comments just to see if anyone would mention something about the interior style. Well, "art deco" was all the rage from the twenties, thirties and peaked in just about the year of this car, 1940. However, the art deco style has extended or was reborn several times well into the sixties. Also, this 1940 Ford has been suggested by some that this was Edsel Ford's styling masterpiece. Fords after that, while stylish never achieved the crisp flowing style that Edsel could fashion. Well, those living then didn't know just how ill and stressed he was. He had been President of Ford since 1919 and that combined with his erasable father had taken a toll on his health. Add this to the war years stressful activities and he died in 1943 with stomach cancer at the age of 50. Style left Ford and did not return for nearly 10 years when the 1949 Ford came out and it saved Ford which was heading for a footnote of automotive history Thankfully, those 1931 - 1940 Fords are still around. By the by, that lovely ladies shoes are fitting for an art deco interior. Great video. Oh, by the by, that reddish round thing on the front of the engine? Well, that is the distributor. Yes, distributor and a real bear to work on. For the beginner it was more than confusing. Mostly the mechanic worked by feel and experience to get the job done. There are some knuckle busting videos on you tube teaching us how to get the job done. I've seen some just remove the radiator the get to the contraption.

This car is emblematic of what's wrong with the automotive world today. It's everything auto design has lost: as much art than engineering. Flathead Ford and all, it's pure art.
