Beautiful car! Great that the owner hasn't restored the car. The spirit and soul of the era are more easily felt when they're in more or less original condition. My parents had a 1960 Olds station wagon painted that same red color.

1961, the best US automotive year for GM evolving smaller bodies with minimal accent fins. Ford, still humping a larger, heavier platform didn't stand a chance seeking superior performance on the street. This particular model being one of the most beautiful cars debuting the muscle car, smaller body era. Great Job Dennis, thanks for keeping this beauty in top condition.

I had a 1961 Bonneville back in 1965. Great car. There was a powder blue '64 with that same set up driving around town. It had the 421 badge on the front fender. Cool ride. I moved up to a '66 GTO in 1967.

The baddest engine ever made by Pontiac. Factory race car. Was hoping to hear it run. The 421SD with the cutouts open is a sound to behold. That's a mean car right there

Amen.... Many people have never even heard of the 421SD. They were only rated by Pontiac at 405 hp, although I saw one make 488 hp at 6,000 rpm on a dyno. Bone Stock!!!!! Absolutely right up there with the Chrysler 426 Hemi and Ford R-CODE 427 side oiler. One of the baddest engines ever put into ANY muscle car from that era. The Pontiac 421SD should've had a song written about it instead of the Chevrolet 409
@derangedhermit2879
@derangedhermit2879 5 жыл бұрын
From what I've long understood, The 421 Super Duty Pontiacs were purposely underrated at 405 hp, in actuality, they reportedly all make around 488 wheel HP on the dynos, I am personal partial to the 1965-1966 2+2, the tragically less famous big brother to the GTO, and the the forerunner to the SS427 L72 4 bolt main big body Caprice and Impala Bel Air muscle cars that were faster, then then the high dollar ultra rare Hemi Cuda. Really outside of those turbined firebird motorama cars, the only GM engine even approaching the level of the Super Duty 421 that GM ever built, woulda been the dual quad 409, the mark 7 427, into the radical L-88 or ZL1 427's, moving to Chevorlet LS5 and LS6 454's, Buicks light thin walled 2 bolt main GSX 455 stage 4, or those experimental super radical Oldsmobile turbocharged hemi's, and fast forwarding today the new expensive Corvette's supercharged ZR1's engine is particularly of note with the king of the hill considering the hp and torque numbers it puts out...8)

The Pontiac 421 SD is ABSOLUTELY right up there with the Chrysler 426 Hemi, Ford R-Code 427, and Chevy ZL1 and L88 427 engines. Those 5 engines make up the Mount Rushmore of 1960s high performance American V8 engines. That's a BAD machine right there

The 421 Super Duty (405 horse, solid lifters) was not available in 1961 as built in September or October of the previous year. The 421 dual quad was available late in 1961, but those engines were reserved for racers, not regular consumers.

Nice car, but there are many things that are not correct/original.. The Ventura did not have a rear seat speaker from the factory.. What this car has is a rear seat from a '61 Bonneville with speaker grille from a '61 Catalina convertible.. The Tach was from a '62 Grand Prix with a Sun style mounting cup.. Lots of things wrong in the engine bay.. Might not be a 421.. could be a 389, 428 or 455 dressed up like a 421.. Still, a nice tribute car..
@2good2often
@2good2often 5 жыл бұрын
the Bubbletop Catalina is such a nice design . The addons probably went in over time as the owner[s] found things that were cool upgrades .. In retrospect drilling holes in the dash for gauges adding the tach in non factory position detract a bit from value .still would love that car in my garage .. Dual quads or not

@@2good2often Plus, I don't think the "real" race SD cars came with all the chrome in the interior, heater controls/heater, and of course, for all the world to see was the Edelbrock intake manifold. Would be hard pressed to believe it really is a factory race car. Still, a nice car, even if it's not real.
