On "My Car Story" we're at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, CA on 3-15-19 at the Classic Auto Show.
We're looking at a 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint Convertible in Blue Paint. The car is equipped with a 260 CI V8 engine.
The car's being shared by the Restorer Darin Smith. He’s shares he had purchased this car and restored it, however when one of his customers saw it, she wanted it. The car has less than 24000 original miles on it.

I agree with Lou, the old cars look great restored to their original look as the designers intended. I can't stand when modifiers lower any vehicle. What an incredible find. Such rich, deep colors.

I had a 65 2 door coupe in that exact color but wasn't the Sprint model and only had a 200 straight 6 It was my first car in 1980 My dad and I did the body work together Brings back fond memories indeed Thanks for sharing

funny thing is the 67/71 Australian falcon used the Mustang chassis and the 1st one the 67XR had the 289 V8

Lou, Mr. Smith was fantastic, I like his way of thinking, he is a bit of a purest regarding his restoration work. As you said, it's a cute little ford with a fantastic sounding V8. It's a delightful car!

My uncle had a black 66 Falcon when he left for Vietnam, remember as kid seeing it parked under the carport next door at my grandmother's everyday waiting for him...

@@loucostabile Yes Lou made it back, but with the money he saved bot a 69 Pony, Grandmother drove the Falcon till the wheels fell off Haha, as they say. Wish I had that Falcon now.. Thanks Lou

You certainly have the skill in selecting cars for the videos. But funny how perception changes over time. Long ago a Falcon would not have any interest, but this one is really fine automobile.

Old Town correct: I actually ignored these Falcons/ Mercury: we had a number of 1963.5 Galaxie 427( also have Memory of a Ford station Wagon (1962?) 427, 409 Chevy, a few Injected Pontiac & OLDS 57-58, Pontiac 421 DRAG PAK, A few Hemi Police Cars; though Falcons, Darts etc really nice NOW!!

Lou, Thanks : Good showing. Interestingly, my HIGH School classmate’s parents had a “loaded “64 Mercury COMET (?Memory) two Door , Blue, Hard Top, etc... It was very nice, with V-8,.......Only In it couple times,: though he used it for Proms In 64 & 65?.

Lou, this car is just sweet. Can u imagine what it must've been like to walk into a showroom in late '63 and see that?! That 260 gave it just enough ooomph... great little motor that morphed into the mighty 289. Nice find Lou.

Lou, I had a black/black '64 Falcon Sports Coupe TASCA Ford "K" code 289 car that was built in-house by Bob Tasca Sr and his two sons, Bob Jr and Carl. I regret ever selling that car. BTW, I semi-know this young man because I talked with him quite awhile back.

These cars were rare even when new. And in here Wisconsin, these things rusted out in about three years. I can’t remember the last time I saw one. As can be seen, the restoration work done is as good as it gets. Another great car story, Lou. Thanks

What a beautiful Falcon Lou! I remember these cars the 1965 looked the same except for grille change a tad and tail lights a tad. I love this color and the car sounded just awesome! Just a magnificent car restore! Just a awesome ride Lou I love it!! Thanks for sharing Lou!

You are absolutely correct; restoring cars to their original state as the designers & manufacturers had intended. To me, that’s always the best restore. I’m ok with people who like to restore to upgrade this & that because at least a vintage car is saved, and I truly appreciate those. But I still love, love pure original cars as they were designed. What a great and simple convertible!! Suits me to a ‘T’!!

michael nesmith placed this vehicle prominently in a little feature called "repo man," starring a very young emelio estevez and harry dean stanton. the burgundy edition was no 260 sprint, though

im a ford guy, those 260 are quite rare now, people discarded them because they were the discount v8 and only lasted a few years...and in an true sprint car AND convertible. open your viewing holes wide on that one boys, you wont see that often

Hey Lou, just cross here. Just a suggestion not a criticism when you go from up close shots and then far shots your voice your voice and sound levels drop dramatically. I don't know if there's a fix but just FYI

just decoded the vin the car is extremely legit, the color is also the proper f code ''guardsman blue'' here is the decoded vin: Year: 1964Body Style: Sprint Convertible: Tudor (8-cyl-Bench or Bucket) Engine: 260 V8 (164 hp) Build Plant: Lorain, OH Unit Number: 70904

I would have bet money the '64 Falcon (And many other '64 Fords) came with a 289 cubic inch V-8 The 260 V-8 came out between the 221 and the 289 The 289's were very stout engines and could be had with 271 or 306 horsepower in the high performance models

Well, given my FoMoCo family association and all, I do love this little car. It was a genuinely good car that was not nearly as overbearing as the full-size sedans available. However, I wonder how well this would stack up to the same-year Studebaker Daytona convertible?
