I've had the WH-H910N headphones for two years and I was listening a loud wind noise from the right side. I removed both ear cups and cleanned the ANC mic, oh god what a difference that made. They sound like brand new! Thanks a Lot!!

Toucan - THANK YOU so much! Since cleaning the mic didn't help much I changed it in the app, like you advised, to 1. And the problem with the high pitched sound is gone. Mine are already 4.5 years old but still I don't want something like this to happen. I felt like my ear was about to explode. I still set my sights on the Sennheiser Momentum 4 now.

i followed your instructions, so when i opened mine so much dust and i did what u did plus good thing i bought new cushions so i replaced it so i played it very high volumeup and down with noice canselation no ringing sound so far keep my fingers cross, it feels bloody new, i almost spent 350 euros on the xm5 ALMOST THANKS SO MUCH😀

My wife has these headphones and ask me to take a look at them. Your video really helped understanding what was happening with them. Hers did have an issue with the earcup, mic. I actually Unsoider the mic off the PC board. This did make the sound go away. But she immediately made me put it back because The noise cancellation was working on one side and not the other which she said was worse. Funny thing is when I put It back on I reflowed the joints on the microphone as well. And the noise hasn't come back yet. I will update if the noise comes back. But this might just be a bad joint issue So before you buy a new mic, you might At least reflow the 4 joints.

WOW! I've been searching for the last week why my noise canceling quality dropped dramatically. I took off the ear pads and cleaned the microphones on both ears with 91% isopropyl alcohol and the audio quality is back to what it was before I had this problem. Thank you!!! btw, my problem was that the noise cancelling quality dropped dramatically. It basically sounded like someone was cupping their hands over my ears or maybe a sea shell was over my ears for the noise cancelling settings. Almost went and spent $300 on a new headset, so saved me that much. 6 months later edit: I now have a different problem where my left in-cup speaker just screeches really loudly until I turn off the active noise cancelling. It's something to do with the microphone in front of the speaker. So disappointing... At least the headset still works without the active noise cancelling, for now...

How did you manage to remove the noise cancellation mic? Mine was too tucked in and I'm afraid I might pull the wires soldered (I don't have soldering iron and I don't want to go that far). Important lesson learned here is that never ever buy Sony. I have a WF1000xm4 and software update ruined the battery big time.

@@RambosBodyguard (P.s. Sorry if this pings you, and you've bought a new pair/moved on since, but thought this'd help others later on incase you haven't found a solution.) I've got the same issue with my XM3s (there seems to be many forum posts with this issue too). They started off with some slight deterioration (with the seashell-like "hum") in the left cup after wearing them out in the rain (hood up), so I had put it down to that. Opened the cups up to find slightly more rust in the left than the right (due to wearing conditions) but no cleaning seemed to fix the issue entirely A handful of months later the same cup had also started screeching, but I could only reliably reproduce this screech in the most awkward of ways, including wafting my hand to try and force air to evoke a response. After a few tinkering sessions, it seems the foam thickness seems to affect how loud the screech is (I've a rather-noticeable dimple around the mic), as does incoming sound/air (I guess sound is pretty much patterened-air anyway). However, I haven't managed to find a final solution either. It's something I'm not too bothered by, but with sensory issues I'm having trouble deciding whether to simply replace them now, or when they eventually kick the can.

The MOST important place to look and clean is the UNDERSIDE those little grey/white microphone covers. You will no doubt find a thick coating of skin oil/ear wax that has evaporated and condensed there (also clean the mic of this greasy layer) One extra think I did, that I don't know is beneficial is I wrapped the mic circumference in a very small strip of tape. I was thinking that being directly pressed into the hard plastic mounts might lead to vibration and tape might ease that)

Thank you for this video! I had spilled a bit of water on to my headset and started getting that sound! I cleaned off the mics after removing the covers and also cleaned off the part that controls the noise cancellation and so far so good! Happy new year!

it's likely you just adjusted the wires and shifted them when you took it apart. dust doesn't result in audio interference. If i had to guess, it's likely the issue returned but this video wouldn't capture that. and for many others saying it worked that's also possibly true. though a short can be resolved long term if you twist a wire corretly but more than likely it'll be back

Taking the black foam piece off and cleaning it worked for me! Also separated the wites

My xm3 has a high pitch noise on the right side whenever pressure is applied it makes a screeching noise. Not only that it sounds like its popping and has the speaker constantly on. But i switched from nosie cancelling to ambient and that solved the screeching issue but now i know its the mic so i need to either clean this very profoundly or get a new mic. Hope this helps someone with the same issue looks like not everyone has the same one.

Another problem I read about was that the mic wires may be touching and short-circuiting. I tried separating the wires a bit more and wrapped one with normal sellotape and so far it hasn't been screeching. Just thought I'd add to the list of possible fixes.

I ve just started to have this problem. Mine are pretty dirty so probably gonna have to do some cleaning. In the mean time you can just cancel noise cancelling with the mode button, you dont need to go into the app.

mine are 2 years old but i paid 600 for them on Amazon, it really pisses me off how headphones this expensive have such a short life span, other cheaper brands ive hand lasted longer

The Software part worked for me. I put the NC strength to 1 or 2, saved and returned later to 0. And my Problem was solved.. 😎✌🏻

I noticed the only thing that helps mine too is putting the noise cancellation at 2. At full anc (0) and level 1 it still screeches like crazy. Might crack em open to try the methods in this video cuz i've tried just about everything besides opening them up lol.

Anyone has an fix for "crackle" noises like the speaker is doing a full "push cycle" for a full second on low frequency ... i did an factory reset like you did in the video :( but it didnt work and everytime the battery drops down to 20% it even gets worse... i look up some guides to replace the battery but i didnt find any genuine battery replacement parts... maybe i just try one of the "compatible" batterys i dont know at this point... i still love my xm3's :'D

I have the XM4 and I wouldn't buy them again. The noise-cancelling always made a hissing sound that's quite annoying, and now this squeal. On top of that, they're really uncomfortable.

Just got this on mine, cleaning helped but only for the screeching when the headphones were off my head, as soon as I put them on they start screeching again. Setting level to 1 helps the issue. Just had my in ear XM4 suffering from severe battery drain, 20 minutes from full charge to power off. Sony is honestly just rubbish at this point, not buying his crap again...
