That was a trill not a purr. It has aspect of a meow combined with purring. Sigh...if you owned a cat you would know the difference. There should be no high pitch aspect to it. Purrs are low frequency rumbles.

The room you're in affects how loud it will clock in on that device possibly by a whole factor of two. The distance to the microphone affects it even more and it looked pretty random here. You might consider not just measuring dB peaks, but actually measuring some kind of average over time as that would probably be what would be perceived as the loudest purring.

We didn't see all the measurements they made. At the beginning, we see them take at least one measurement from the ground where they were measuring distance from the ground at one meter. And its all for fun really. Now in the US, the cat would have made bank, hit the the talk shows and paid big bucks to show up at parties.

My issue with a record like this is that I feel like most people with really loud purring cats aren't gonna think to contact anyone about it, so really this a record for loudest cat who's owner thought "wow maybe I have the loudest cat I should contact the news".

Senior cats are amazing. I had the best cat I could've ever asked for. When he was younger, he was nowhere near as snuggly as he was when he got older. I got him when I was 6, and he passed away recently, years later. He was 12. He loved to snuggle, pat your fork to ask for food, purr and just meow for attention. I miss him a lot. Senior cats are awesome. Of course not all of them will be, but they're so much more laxxed and open to snuggles. Hug your kitties tight for me.

I rehabilitated an abused 18 lb red alley cat. He rewarded me by jumping on my lap and laying his head on my chest and purring louder than any cat I ever heard. Don't know how he would rank, but it was a purrfect reward for me and the beginning an incredible relationship. I'm sure you will never tire of hearing it and I miss terribly my own pal.

I shared the joy by entering him in the largest domestic expo in North America. He was voted the Peoples Choice : Favorite Cat in Show.He looked like "Morris". My regret: I should have bred him at least once to have one of his kittens. Your comment was most welcome.

I have a beautiful female Tuxedo cat (like the cartoon cat Sylvester). She is a long haired beauty and I wanted more, more, more. I wanted to breed her and let her line go on. But I know nothing about taking care of pregnant cats, and thinking about all the unwanted cats, made me realize I had the "SPECIAL" one. I love her to death and know there is none like her in the world. Thank you for what you do for the leukemia kitties. You are right. They deserve loving too.

recording decibels arent a one-way road for world records like this, finding the exact time where the cat's purr is at its loudest is so much more incredibly difficult than it seems. the decibel recorder cannot listen to the purr for a minute and give you the loudest decibel displayed, that creates a luck factor where you cant be 100% certain. that is why the sound crew transferred all the recorded data onto a computer where they can manually search for the loudest point throughout the whole session.
