7:42 he says he only train with weights to make you stronger and says 75-85% I'm confused? I thoughts it maximal effort? so like 90%
@smallworldlifters
@smallworldlifters 7 жыл бұрын
Thats for dynamic effort. They do a max effort workout for upper body once a week as with Iower body, and a dynamic effort workout for both once a week too! Check my upIoads, the days I went were both dynamic days!

okay sweet I get it, but I will also check out your uploads and subscribe. One more thing though, louie says if your not using gear(hence raw), than your dynamic days should be 65%, 70%, and 75% for the pendulm wave. He said that in his 5 part series where he was talking to a class on westside

not sure if I have missed something, did he mention how they train squat on dynamic method day for raw lifters?
@NicholasRachuna
@NicholasRachuna 7 жыл бұрын
Jade Konnis squat with a closer stance if you're raw and don't want hip problems. Ten years of ultra wide squatting almost ruined my hips as a raw squatter which was only remedied by bringing my stance in and increasing the range of motion. My legs are actually much stronger now even though I'm only using 80% of the weight I used to...

Hey jenkins, first of all thank you for the videos. I have a question about the substitute for speed day. louie said he starts with 6x6 then 8x8 then 10x10, but he doesnt mention percents for the reps. can you provide that? also do you know if it can be done without bands and chains?
@smallworldlifters
@smallworldlifters 5 жыл бұрын
Ha try 65-70% for the 10x10. That should be achievable, it’s what I started with when I did it. And then go from there! I think it is meant to be without bands and chains. He got the idea from a bodybuilder named Bill Seno who most likely did not use bands and chains! I hope this helps!
@Ha-ow2cz
@Ha-ow2cz 5 жыл бұрын
@@smallworldlifters just one more question, so louie said he starts at 6x6 & increases weight every week and when it gets too heavy he goes to 8x8 and then goes to 10x10, so you started the 6x6 at 65%?
@smallworldlifters
@smallworldlifters 5 жыл бұрын
Ha no he starts with the 10x10 but he always preferred the 6x6 so mostly stuck with those. I started my 10x10 at around that % and by the time I was failing 6x6 I was around 85-90% ...it wasn’t the reps, it was more the sets that was destroying me!

Did he mention what percentage to use or what speed the barbell should move for the raw bench speed day ( the 6x6, 8x8 and 10x10)?
@smallworldlifters
@smallworldlifters 8 жыл бұрын
No. I beIieve he means work up to a tough 6 that you can maintain for 6 sets with iIIegaI grip, add weight each week untiI you cant do 6 reps then take the weight back down to a tough 8x8 etc. but try to keep them as fast as possibIe! Hope this heIps

I am confused about the band weight for the dynamic speed squats. It says that he uses 50-60% bar weight, and 25% band weight. Does that mean that you could be doing speed squats with 85% of your total max? That's certainly what it looks like, I am just confused because I thought that the dynamic effort (aka bar speed) days involved a much lower percentage of your max. Clearly I could be wrong.

I've been experimenting with this and for 6x6 I was abIe to start at 75%ish and increase every week up to 87.5% before i stopped to deIoad for a meet. I couId onIy run 10x10 for 70% and now doing 8x8 and so far have got up to 75%. I'II update this when I can no Ionger do 8x8! Thanks for the support!

He never answered the question between too much band vs too little
@reddeltasev07
@reddeltasev07 4 жыл бұрын
Too much or too little band tension is just ineffective. In practice you can use 3 different band tensions effectively: 25% bands for the majority of dynamic effort work, 33% for highly qualified lifters or as a temporary stimulus, and 40% for your circa max. For the 33% you don't want to use it year round unless you are extremely strong and fast already and have perfect technique. Example: I use an estimated 360kg multi-ply squat max to base my percentages on. The majority of my speed work I use three week waves with 180/195/215kg of straight weight plus 100kg of bands. Maybe 4-5 times a year I'll do a 3-week wave with the same straight weight and 120kg of bands just to vary the stimulus and mix things up. And before I go to a meet I'll take a maximum squat 3 weeks out with 160kg or 180kg of tension for my circa max to prime the nervous system

Darrell Grant how’s it going? So essentially, Louie’s suggesting that 6x6 is performed instead of speed work until your weight stalls, then you lower the weight and perform 8x8, and then 10x10. Once you stalk on 10x10s you go back to 6x6? Have I got this correct?
@darrellgrant7615
@darrellgrant7615 6 жыл бұрын
dimmuborgir7898 no once you can get 6x6 you go for 8x8 with the same weight. Once you get 8x8 you go for 10x10. Your using the same weight but increasing the total volume of work done. Once you can complete 10x10 you increase the weight by about 10 lbs and go back to 6x6 and repeat the process. It’s essentially a shit load of hypertrophy work. Good luck:)

you're wrong. He clearly says that you drop the weight and then go to 8x8. Think about it logically. If you're at 200lbs on 6x6 and fail it, how the FUCK are you supposed to do 8x8, and then 10x10? Think for yourself, white brother!

It's a major weakness that Louis has... You have to immerse yourself heavily and listen to a lot. Ultimately, the methods are somewhat hard to understand because they are not cookie cutter programs and rely heavily on expert coaching to help with exercise selection. I found a similar problem with 531. It's a great template to guide a lifter who already knows about accessories and eating... But you need to KNOW how to do a program. The Westside alumni have a decade of knowledge to rely on. Hard to get that.
