The plaintiff rented an apartment from the defendant but found out the place was illegal, so he moved out. The defendant won't return the plaintiff's security deposit, so he's suing. The defendant argues the plaintiff left behind feces and urine for her to deal with. The defendant also alleges the plaintiff owes money for last month's rent, so she's countersuing.

The defendant knew that the "apartment" was illegal. How do you make a side deal after the money is in your hands? The defendant took advantage of a homeless veteran. The defendant knew exactly what she was doing. "He agreed..." Yes, he did agree because he didn't want to be in the shelter.🤦🏽‍♀️😑

Agreed! JM had it upside-down. Plaintiff should have got a price per square-foot amount. I've lived in a studio apartment & I've lived in an 9x11 foot bedroom; HUGE DIFFERENCE! He paid $1000. per month; should have been awarded $800. per month back!

JM was delusional on this one. So he paid $1050 for a 9x11 room where he was forced to share a home vs. having his own good sized studio for $1250. He deserved half his money back! No one would pay more than $600 a month for a room without attached bath (this was pre-pandemic, probably 2015-16) of that size.

@@ladybrown4056Veteran’s Affairs paid, but they had him choose the place and then they agreed to pay for that. So they agreed to pay $1,250 for a studio, not $1,050 for a room with a shared kitchen and bathroom. He was cheated out of a lot of space and privacy!

He should've gotten better. I mean, veterans get a lot of benefits. They can get $3,900 a month if married and have a disability. They also can go to college, on the G I bill, buy a house with practically no $ down, and almost 0 closing costs. I think some veterans just don't know what they are worth.

@@thankthelord4536 The amount you claim for disability is if it is 100%, which is very difficult to get. A vet can only use the GI bill if they signed up for it when they enlisted and pay the up front fee while in the military. Anyone can negotiate a 0 closing cost.

@@kyoto32001 I'm in a small apartment, about 650 sq ft. And what I call my closet is actually the bedroom. The layout is unique, with the living room, the biggest room (15'x18') in a private space, more like a den. So I made it my bedroom because I have a third room that I call the middle room and that's the living room because it like a large hall, with all the doorways to the bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, as well as my closet. I actually call it my walk-in wardrobe. I have 100 hangers of clothes as well as many drawers, bins and shelves. It's definitely a decent space, to store my clothing (and shoes, and purses, and luggage - all things clothes related.) I don't know how anyone can live in 100 sq ft, especially sharing a kitchen and bathroom. I know that this guy was in a shelter, so he probably didn't have a need for space.....and I'm glad he found something that he is happy with now. I also thought that he should have been awarded more, until the defendant said that he's a creeper.

People are quick to say that the tenant is happy to live in the situation. As hard as it is to find a suitable and safe place nobody wants to have to move. Especially when you see people sleeping all over the city in tents…of course they’re happy to stay! SMDH 😅

It’s funny that all of a sudden she felt uncomfortable when he was upset that he didn’t get the space he was paying for. Now that she’s in court oh he came on to her and she’s uncomfortable. She shouldn’t have rented anything cause both units were illegal to rent.

I've said this before--this judge always favors the landlord. He's promised a studio with his own kitchen and bath and ends up in a 9'x11' room. 😂😂😂 And now has to share a kitchen and bath with the woman and her kids??? 😮😮😮 The plaintiff should have received at least $2,500. And if he had gone to Judge Judy, she would have ripped that illegal landlord to shreds.

Shortchanged another black person. The apartment in question was illegal!! The defendant put him in a closet for goodness sake because the room wasn't in living condition. Yet Milian gave the guy a measly $400 of the $1250 he was certainly owed. Milian does it again. The defendant had an illegal set up and yet the plaintiff still got shortchanged. A veteran at that!!!
