British do the best mini series in the world. No big drama, just life. Thank you for the uploads!❤

Watched this with my mum, when it originally came out, I was about 12 years old...still very enjoyable over 40 years later.

I have loved this version since it came out. Sheer bliss to find again. So many of the older actors gone. Miss Vivian Pickles a lot. I suppose I will go looking for all the younger actors, now. See how their lives turned out. Oh and Ms Dench's real life husband. Lost far too early. Playing Davey.

I am grateful to have a Swiss cheese memory. I know I saw this before; but, remember the end and nothing else. Very good screen play and good acting. Do I owe thanks to the BBC?

It was on ITV I think, around 1980. Very true to the book.

Brilliant script ! By Simon Raven . Brilliant cast !! Yet this is forgotten and drivel like Downton is considered a masterpiece !?!?

Why does Uncle Matthew remind me of Jeremy Clarkson?

A gentleman does not make a woman run after him. That Frenchman is very rude. And Fannie is foolish running to run after him.

I love that fast foxtrot tune - anyone know it's name?

Compare this with Downton Abbey. Which one seems more realistic? I think the craziness of the English landed gentry has been better caught here, Downton Abbey seems so invented, so woke. One look at the Tory twits in Whitehall and inspection of the documentary The Last Dukes and it becomes obvious, doesn't it?

Love this. Not impressed by the Frenchman, though. He’s supposed to be a lady killer but he comes across as an immoral cad, like his real-life counterpart I suppose.

after watching a tremendous number of British shows, it appears the writers are incapable of matching young women with young men - always the old men with very young girls. Fast forward to 2024 after all the exposure.

It's nothing to do with the 'writers of shows'. This is an adaptation of the novels of Nancy Mitford, set in the 20s/30s, which in turn draw heavily on her own her own eccentric, aristocratic upbringing. Young upper-class women did tend to marry older men. For the women it was a way of leaving home, but ensuring a comfortable life (with someone already established in their careers and/or who'd already come into their inheritance).
