Probably the best and most catchy psychedelic lyrics ever. No writer has ever come close to "If I don't start cryin it's because that I have GOT NO EYES

For artists at that early stage of rock to push themselves so far, so hard, almost as if they were channelling some higher creative force - that's awe-inspiring.

In S.F. this song came out on AM radio around July 1966. The following year I was in a band that "attempted" to do this song, and learned you could get that explosion-like sound at the end by kickcking your spring- reverb amp (they all were back then) with the reverb on.

Several bands have tried to cover this song with few reaching the perfection of the original. Arthur Lee was right, it had to be done this way and the end product was worth the effort. The imagery in the lyrics is masterful for an upbeat rock and roll song. Grossly underrated band.

I remember dancing to this furious little ditty with a couple of girls as strobes flashed all around us. The air was permeated with marijuana smoke, strawberry and sandalwood incense, and cheap perfume. Man, we were soooo young and free!

one thing that makes this such a great tune is how it resolves at the end, and becomes a little reflective. The calm after the storm.

H o w d y from Dallas Texas, in early 1967 I bought love's first two albums, probably at Kmart, because of Little Red Book and seven and seven is, both were played on Dallas AM radio. I must have been pretty hip for a 10 year old. De Capo is still one of my favorite records and would love to have anyone who played on the record autograph my copies. In the movie about the doors they say wouldn't it be great if we could be as big as love!

It blew me away when I first heard it. That was one thing great about Love. They could do a heavy song like this or Signed DC and then switch over and do Softly to me or She comes in colors.

The Capo was the first record album that I know of that have a song that was 10 or 15 minutes long. It was the entire flip side called revelation and even had the first rock drum solo

Hes wrong that it was "blessedly short" everything Arthur Lee did for Punk,Neofolk, and possibly Early Metal as well as for The Garage Rock of that era. Its a shame we don't have as many bands like Love or Musicians like Arthur Lee today. Maybe we only have what we have now because of what he did. Classical Influences definetely key but so much going on there from RnB,Eurofolk,Latin,Military,Country, and Soul Music too.

Its funny....hilarious almost . because I could play these drum parts easily..and with taste..I mean so could many other good modern drummers out there. Its funny and crazy how much drumming has advanced in the last 40-50 years alone.

Frank Converse while I can’t always echo the pile on another KZfaq Commenter who probably just doesn’t know what the situation was like back then - you’re right. So many of the individuals behind these garage rock bands that were pushing the boundaries or breaking new, harsher ground were just kids, playing what they could or what they were told to. Wasn’t the keyboardist in the Mysterians like sixteen or seventeen years old? In Love’s case, the backbeat of 7 And 7 Is... is a constant flurry, with little to no breaks until the ending. Most non-jazz drummers signed up for some boom-tap boom-tap or something similar in a 4/4 time; but obviously this song is a different animal altogether. At least we all still recognize that much.

7 & 7 Is considered by a lot of people to be one of the first "punk" records. When The Ramones first started in 1974, Tommy said he auditioned countless drummers because none of them could understand that quick, steady, chaotic rhythm he was looking for. It's not complicated, but it can be exhausting. He finally gave up and did it himself.

Love who did a lot of great songs turned this Album into lousy and unmarketable with the 20 minute nonsense noise" Revelation " I am thinking this was the height of their drug use. Forever Changes is a Outstanding album. The various song side of Da Capo was very good.
