In a day in which hatred and revenge seem common, we desperately need this message. Let us listen to a prophet of God rather than give in to the senseless violence and hatred in which the devil thrives regardless of political standing.

Great talk by a great man. Thank you Elder Oaks. I am ex-LDS, however talks like this make me wonder if I should consider returning. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is the only Church I know that it's members are closer to The Heavenly Father and His principles than all Churches I have been involved with, period!

That quote needs to resounded over and over again! I think this is one reason why a lot of people are uniting that otherwise wouldn't be because they realize this is about freedom and without any freedom then ideology is worthless. This was a spot on talk!

As I listened, I kept thinking "I hope the people on the OTHER side are listening to this." Then I realized how absurd that is. I am the only one that I can change. I am the one who needs to listen to this. If I can't change, then I have no right to expect others to do likewise. Thanks, President Oaks, for the loving chastisement.

@@simplyme14h84 Thank you!! I know there must be a way, but it’s very difficult, and times are hard now, probably I will need to be where I can get more help. I don’t get help with anything at the house, but maintenance. Relationships here are not that great, or a good portion of the time non-existent. I am afraid to try to go out on my own because right now I don’t see any good options...it looks cold and cruel after not being valued much at all here. Lots of people in our little city are being robbed. Some even several times lately. It’s horrible. Not sure if it’s worse because of COVID-19, but the kids even robbed Halloween decorations. A little while back, they did a BLM protest, and at least one grown man was involved. A lady on the city council began a big stir because she said that I think it is our police chief is getting too much money, and that it should go elsewhere. I am not sure if she caused the protest, but I know there was some violence over a past incident. I don’t know the details, but to my knowledge, there was no crime by the police. But the youth decided to hold a big protest during the day, and a BLM dance in the night, and danced in the streets. I think that the police had to break them up so they would not dance in the streets. But ever since then, I have heard of a lot of theft going on, on a city “neighbors’” Facebook page. Even ones that have finished post-high school and are married, can be a bit obnoxious and rude. I am not sure why some in positions of responsibility don’t grow up. We don’t live in a kind time right now. People can be mean if they disagree with something nice you said about someone or something. These young people are graduating from college and vocational schools, and learning as apprentices, and they are going to be taking over, and influencing the children and teens, and hopefully watching out for us...also hopefully as they learn from us. I just hope we have enough goodness and righteousness in this generation going into their 20’s, that will be taking over, to keep things running in America, and in the states, cities and smaller communities and rural areas.

I have already been called a racist because of my political posts... from someone I dearly love at Church. I'm a realist, but I was taught against racism as a child. She has known me for two decades, she knows I'm no racist. She got offended because my posts didn't like her candidates. It's a political disagreement, but she immediately made it about race. It's going to be hard for me when we go back to Church. I have Asperger's and PTSD as it is. It's hard for me to be around large groups, so I don't go much, and I was starting to crave going back til that happened.

So this is a legitimate question I have for a learned lds member. We believe in being subject to kings rulers etc.and yet the United States constitution is justifiable to live by. So let's be specific here, is that article of faith only if your government is treating you fair?
@richardtong3099

It's an important question. I think in this situation which many find themselves in varying degrees throughout the world we are expected to do what we can within the confines law, if this is not enough and our cause is righteous then we put our full trust in the lord and he will fight our battles for us, always in accordance with his wisdom and timing not ours as our judgement is often flawed. Doctrine and covenants 101: 85 Thus will I liken the children of Zion. 86 Let them importune at the feet of the judge; 87 And if he heed them not, let them importune at the feet of the governor; 88 And if the governor heed them not, let them importune at the feet of the president; 89 And if the president heed them not, then will the Lord arise and come forth out of his hiding place, and in his fury vex the nation; 90 And in his hot displeasure, and in his fierce anger, in his time, will cut off those wicked, unfaithful, and unjust stewards, and appoint them their portion among hypocrites, and unbelievers;
