I’ll be locked for 2 years in August. I’ve lost 4 sisterlocks. I was devastated. My loctician said losing locks is no big deal. She also says it part of the process. If she’s not worried, I’m not gonna worry either.

I remember the shed hair bulbs being visible when I had locs. I used to dye my hair so it wasn't as noticeable. I believe using henna is more natural, and may work for you. I can see these bulbs with my daughters locs, buts she's only 8, so dye is not an option, plus she hasn't noticed them yet. It would be great to hear from loc lady you mentioned about her views on visible hair roots, how to protect hair locs when swimming and when to incorporate conditioner (should it be diluted). My daughter from birth has a very thin hairline so im very careful to not make the edges tight they're more carefree looking.

I will be 2-years microlocs Sept 7th and I started with two strand twists. When I had my est I didn't have any hair in the front hairline about 2-3". So my locs basically started behind my ears. Now after using the hairclub system since Jan 2024 my hairline has grown tremendously and my loctician was able to est new baby locs in the front about 20 plus now. I keep forgetting to braid and band when I wash and all the baby locs slipped😅. So now I have an afro in the front. My loctician couldn't believe how it grew because I was bald in the front. Love your hair girl! ❤

I don't think that we should normalize losing locs. Granted I don't have sisterlocs. I have had my small sized braidlocks for 16 years and I have never lost a loc. I have fine medium to low density, high porosity hair. I have experienced a couple of my locs thinning from hair growing out of or away from the original loc and thus weakeness at certain points near the end of the loc or at a certain point in the middle shaft. I have thankfully been successful at repairing all of them and to date all of the locs that have ever had a thinned spot are now stable and strong. To lose a whole loc?, I don't think that that's right. I think that that should be taken as a warning sign that something is not quite right somewhere at least sometimes. Perhaps your locs are too small or your hair strands are is too fine in certain areas on your scalp to maintain the integrity of the size or weight of the loc. Maybe a thicker lock should be placed there instead or maybe the loc needs to be sectioned differently. Check to make sure that your diet and stress levels are not coming into play. Perhaps adhering to the grid too rigidly may be causing some trauma in some areas so they may need adjusting- resizing. Perhaps your hair in certain areas cannot withstand the tight pull/pressure of the point rotation that you are using or perhaps the pull is kept too tight against your scalp? Feel your locs get acquainted with each one so you can tell what's going on and catch little issues before they become problems. Perhaps you may try maintaining a few of your locs with knots to help to regain the integrity of those that may have lost some strength by losing hair from the original loc. Whatever the case is, definitely do not accept the loss of a whole lock as part of the locing process or as natural. Naturally we shed hairs daily that is true but to lose a whole loc? nope, that's not okay. Please stay vigilant and keep researching this. As we age, our hair can get finer. But you don't look like you're at the age where this would be the case as yet. Perimeopause and menopause can cause some changes to our hair especially when we get in our late forties, fifties and beyond. Your locs are beautiful sis and I want them all to stay on your head where they belong for as long as you want them. I hope that your visit goes well Peace, wisdom and blessings on your loc journey.

Hi Ifeyinwa, how often do you wash your hair now? Weekly or every two weeks. What do you recommend? I recently started washing weekly with a clarifying shampoo due to increased buildup. Hi, I have a question about the ends. I really like my ends curly. My hair has a very tight coil pattern and as a result the ends curl coil up. Is it possible for the ends to remain curly coily over extended period of time with locs? I currently wear my hair in 2 strand micro twists, but reinstall every 2 months because I’ve been afraid of taking the plunge on locs. The ends are curly and I really like that look. If I decide to transition to locs I wanted to keep that same look over time, even years later.

They would eventually loc however you can keep the ends free if you wish by combing just the very end of your locs to keep them free. KZfaqr 'More to Dela' has done that with her locs. She also cut her locs into a bob style then combed out just the tips in order to have that curl.
