My theory about why Loona stayed so long in the shelter was that she was probably returned by her owners a few times. Like how some owners would return pets to the shelter when their dogs/cats aren’t the ‘adorable little puppy/kitten’ they used to be.

Personally, I prefer Loonas redesign over the actual, canon design. She looks prettier, the color markings make so much more sense, and I like the two toned hair idea. I feel like it shows off her patterns a little bit more. Millies redesign is also very nice as well and I enjoy the I.M.P. brands that they have on their clothing.

My headcanon for why Loona was kept so long in the pound. She was adopted multiple times but was returned for either being “too bland” or having “too much of a personality.” This is also why she’s so rude to Blitz, she’s scared she might get returned and when she’s scared a lot of the time she lashes out. She knows mostly that Blitz won’t return her but it’s what haunts her nightmares. “Why don’t you grow a pair and replace me!” Is and example. She’s not used to discipline that doesn’t involve her getting abandoned back as the pound so that’s why she gets so mad when Blitz tries to tell her to not be as mean, she’s scared and ready to just go to the streets. She’s generally mean to drive people away because of her time with how bullied and insulted other hounds were to her and the pound.

Luna probably arrived at an age she'd be considered "too old" for people to want to adopt her (a really big problem with kids in the system in real life too)

I love these designs. In defense of Millie's disappearing/ reappearing knife, there has always been a cartoony dose of exaggeration to the series so I'd chalk it up to a magic pocket situation ( ie why a character might withdraw a big cartoon mallet) Also the frustration over hazbin/hellaverse bangs and hair breaking design logic is a mood. Literally the hardest part to draw

To diversify Millie's color palette you could've added in more orange in since wrath tend to have a more reddish orange aesthetic to it

Like Hellhounds are suppose to be like hunter dogs and body gurds (As far we saw) and dog who doesn't listen isn't likely to be kept or adopted. But my sister says she was probobly given back because she peed on the couch XD

I love the tougher look on Millie. It shows she's a badass that can handle herself and Loona just looks more accurate and amazing. I love her redesign outfit and how her fur looks a bit more unkept but in a good way! Plus the IMP logo is just perfect- It was definitely NEEDED

Everyone says that the reason why millie gets criticized is cause she doesn’t have a “tragic backstory” But that’s not even what people are complaining about. She has NONE whatsoever. I know nothing of her past bad or good. I know she’s supposedly not traumatized but that gives no excuse. If she’s so happy where she is and how her life is, then show us- show us how she is cause it’s hell and we need a reason. People are defending poor writing way too hard and it’s only gonna push people away and make the fandom look toxic.

I like how minimal you change Millie's design while still giving her something new 15:52 The darker fur being top and the lighter fur on the bottom defintely looks better and uniformed. You gave her a big ol glow up, not just a goth girl but also she looks so badass!

I think for the scars on luna that she was starting to get aggressive with the lady that handles all the hell house. As a result anytime luna got let out of her "room" she would get restrained and the handlers would put a muzzle on her (overly tightened leading to rubbing / scaring)

The darker fur makes sense for how Loona is supposed to be gothic, but the lighter one fits with how her cabin design looks. Tough call, I think the darker one honestly looks better. Also I LOVE MILLIE'S REDESIGN! The girls do not get enough screen time and it makes me mad. Like, even in truth seekers when they joined up to save the boys, we barely saw them!

I've really fell in love with your take on Millie 🖤. Your redesign made me realize that each member of I.M.P have a speciality of their own. For example: Millie is combat and Moxxie is weaponry (which he studied) but you can't really see it in their "work outfit" which looks more like a "free time outfit". It makes them look like they can't hide or carry a lot of weapons, which is kind of lame for professional assassins... I don't know for the rest of the gang but you did a very good job with Millie being the combat expert. And Loona just being the secretary (I hope I'm not wrong) the only part to conserve was the goth part. Even though, on a personal take, I care a lot more about Millie who seem to be left aside by a lot of fans which makes me a little bit sad. With the design you gave her she really looks like that violent demon she's supposed to be. Congratulations, can't wait for the next part! 🖤 on you

I like your designs for these characters and it’s good to know I’m not the only one who’s bothered by Luna’s fur. I like that you’re Milly while still looking simple looks a bit more like a professional assassin. It always bothered me that there was this feeling in the pilot that I.M.P was trying to be recognized as a legitimate business but everyone’s official designs (except Moxi) looks like goth homeless people. I get it’s hell but there is a clear hierarchy in this version of hell and a way to present yourself as a member of status. Jumping back to Luna I do like the darker version of your design a little more as it fits with how a lot of dog breeds I used to work with look like so it feels right to me and I really like the outfit you designed for her as her official one sometimes doesn’t look like actual clothing and I’m wondering how it’s staying on her body. It kinda makes sense that I.M.P would not have a uniting thing in their clothing in S1 since they are more disorganized but it’s something I’d want to see along with clothing changes that reflect their characters better mainly Millie. Love what you did for the girls, better show cases their personality. I also just found Loona’s star lining of her crop super confusing as to how it keeps her shirt up but it’s not over her shoulders. Excited to see what you do for Blitz and Moxxie, especially Moxxie because for the life of me I don’t know where his horns end or where his hair starts.

Seriously all your redesigns are TOP NOTCH!! theyre basically canon for me. It just feels like you put so much more thought and care into them and make the characters more deep and interesting! For the Loona color scheme and dark fur vs. light fur, I do really like the dark fur better. The only part thats bugging me is that I think the underside of her tail should be white instead of the light grey. It just looks off to me with her tail being dark grey and light grey.

I agree with Millie and Loona having to interact more than just fighting and the usual stuff, like having a proper conversation. I believe Millie could learn from Loona that hey, being mad at Mox isn't that bad of a thing if he doesn't tell you a damn thing about his family after getting married for a year I believe, and Loona could learn that showing affection to Blitzø can help her maybe feel more comfortable with him and help her maybe open up to him so he can help him(And also finally tell him that she doesn't need him to be protective instead of just pushing him away) Idk they could really use some girl talk with each other

I really like the Loona design! The scars everywhere show her rough time from being in the shelter and also yes, the hairline thank you 🙏 Millie’s design is cute but personally it reminds me too much of a rambunctious teenager vibe or sporty jock girl? Idk how to describe it exactly but it’s mainly the ponytail and maybe the shirt.. (the ponytail especially reminds me of June Del Toro from Last Kids on Earth) Hair variety is nice considering the other female characters & the sleeveless sweater is a good indicator of her roughhousiness but to me her character is very motherly, and the pixie cut and simple shirt reminds me more of that (plus, a motherly and sweeter looking design is a nice visual contrast to how viscous she can be, this is probably why so many mother designs are softer and plainer, bc they use that contrast)

I really LOVE all the insight you brought on this vid, especially about the BG character designs! I think the reason the main cast keep getting sam-ey design motifs is because viv is the main designer. Viv doesn't seem to like changing her designs all that much so I assume that's why the main cast can all look boring and same-y while the bg artists are trying to find all types of interesting shape and desigsn to fill up the backgroud without fear of changing anything "established". I'm a bit late, but here's a few questions for your QnA: 1. How do you stay motivated, and/or deal with burnout? 2. Are you ok with people drawing/using your redesigns for things like comics and AUs (with credit of course)? 3. What are your hopes for Hazbin? 4. Is it fitting to call the shoes Hellhounds and Goeta Birds wear "leg-warmers" lol

Honestly Loonas design always bugged me. The other characters designs aren’t the best but they look like they are from the same show. Loona does not, she doesn’t fit with the other designs. This one fits with the others much better.

OH MAN OH MAN I ADORE WHAT YOU DID WITH MILLIES DESIGN! She looks a lot more anatomically blocked out, but also someone who is very familiar with weapons and to be concerned about if you become her target.Shes cute but also intimidating which i feel was missing from her design prior. I often imagine shes someone who was a butcher for her families farm or at least planned to be at first until she met Moxxie and quickly married him because her parents didn't approve of them together and so she almost married him out of spite. As for Loona i love the approach! The fact she wasn't adopted always confused me as well especially since Blitzø saying he doesn't want an ugly hell hound made me think about it more. The only reasons I could see were 1. People want puppies so Loona was maybe an orphan in her teens so she wasnt in the shelter at a young age to be adopted. 2. Shes been adopted many times but for whatever reason everyone gave her back hence shes seen as never amounting to anything. And it would be interesting if its how she treats Blitzø that was why other families gave her back, and its also why the idea she's not nice seems to hit a nerve. Shes wants to keep Blitzø at arms length incase he kicks her out, but she also doesn't want to accept this is why she was given back to the shelter which had fed back into her behavior of being unkind towards the people who care about her. Anyways love the research and approaches to the designs!!

I absolutely lovveee your redesigns. I think Millie’s personality actually comes out through your design and I live for the little knife satchel thing in the back. And Luna looks so much more laid back and cool which is how I imagine her. I also like how you really emphasized some of her features so they wouldn’t get lost in the animation. For Luna I head canon that she had been adopted out several times before but taken back to the shelter for the way she treats others (cough cough Blitzo)

Always fun to watch these redesign vids. I do miss the ear notches for Loona - isn't that something that irl shelters do to denote when strays have been captured and spayed or something? Which, kinda really effed up if they neuter hellhound orphan kids like what, but it IS hell so y'know, anything goes I guess 💀 lol but anyway the nose scar does work well too and at least that would hypothetically be more consistent

/!\ LONG COMMENT ALERT /!\ I see a lot of comments about how Millie is such an underused character, I agree with them. But I would like to bring my own theory of how she ended up as this violent assassin she is. We know that Millie lived in the Wrath ring, which is very “Western” like, so it becomes obvious that she was exposed to violence since the day she was born and had to fight very early in her life to get what she wanted. And if we’re actually paying attention, violence is also a way of proving your value to the other citizens of this ring (with the Harvest Moon festival). So in her mind, violence is the only way to make yourself a place in society, if you’re not strong enough you get eaten. Not much theorizing there. But we also learn from her parents that she was banned (or is forbidden) from the festival because she ended up killing to many people and getting caught for it (“’it doesn’t count if you don’t find the body” - Sally Mae). So, for someone who’s been living in a world where violence is the only way to obtain basic things like respect, she might have felt misunderstood. Why would her own family blame her for being “too” violent? She might have been developing anger issues out of people, even her own family (“We raised you better than that, Mildred!” - Lynn) trying to restrain her violence. Maybe it could even be the reason she left the wrath ring: trying to find a place where she could let her violence explode. And this could be the reason why she joined I.M.P. But it also could be the reason why she’s not complaining about Bltzo’s behavior with her and Moxxie, constantly following them outside work. She finally found a place where she was accepted for who she was, so I assume that she wouldn’t like to let this go. But in same time we could develop her by making her being more and more self-conscious about these issues to the point of working on them so she could become a better element to the team. Because even if she is a monster killing machine, it’s pretty clear that she doesn’t think before she acts, probably because she lets her emotions take control when she’s in danger (something she learned to survive in Wrath for example). This is the way I actually see her, and it's the image I wanna keep of her, what do you think? (I’m taking all opinions)

I actually like the OG Millie design, I'm a sucker for the 'looks cute but would kill you' (I know, I'm a basic bitch), and the almost-Micky Mouse-inspired sorta t-shirt is super cute, but I really like your redesign too? The horn shape is n't that much of a change, but it's so much better? I really like the belt buckle too, because Millie absolutely seems like she takes pride (heh) in working in the big city. The boob window is super cute and for once I'm all for it (like, Millie is clearly not wearing armor). the black fingertips are super cool, 10/10, I lovem

I see a LOT of HH or HB redesigns are just people mindlessly getting rid of detail and basically turning them into completely different characters. As well as mindlessly bashing the designs while not taking any consideration of WHY they look the way they do. Its so refreshing to see someone giving fair criticism of the designs while also listing positives! And yess!! The Millie one is cute but then it feels to me like it doesn't fully match her character, then i remember, we dont know her character 😂. But the Loona one is literally perfect, it would have been amazing if that was her design, especially since goths usually wear a lot of accessory based clothing. Both redesigns are really good, I really like that each one you make has a lot of reason and creativity to it, as in their looks compliment their character/personality! I'd also love to see an episode about Millie (and Loona, but mostly Millie) as she's got like zero screen-time alone, she's just like Moxxie's bodyguard/crazy killer lady rn, she needs more background to how she's so good at fighting etc, maybe how did she meet Moxxie/Her relationships before (With Chaz too maybe), though I'm personally guessing she might've had many boyfriends before marrying Moxxie and they were just really off with her murderous attitude, while Moxxie is from a mafia family so he's used to violence, plus he appreciates her protecting him and she loves him/cares for him more than for other boyfriends she might've had because he's so gentle, fragile and delicate.

i noticed the leg with Millie but not the horns, interesting. i LOVE her new style. the one she had was fine but to me it looked kinda silly. i would always call it the micky mouse shirt XD. (i thought the shirt was a nod to her "farm" life with some "overall" inspired shirt but it looked wired) i do like her original hair but she looks so cute w longer curly hair. loona's hair line has been driving me crazy XD. i really like the scar on her face, it just makes sense. loona just feels right now. its so hard to explain XD but i love itt!

Whew! I finally found the time to watch this one, which I'm glad I did because these are two of my favorite female characters that I would really like to see more of in the series. As usual, your art never ceases to amaze me. I especially love what you did with Loona. She looks so much like a wolf and those are one of my favorite animals. I also love how you made Millie look sharper like she actually came from Wrath and you weren't afraid to give both her and Loona some lovely scars to show what they've been through and such. I really dislike it when people shy away from giving characters scars, especially ones that come from rough upbringings and/or are fighters of some sort. Anyways, keep up the amazing work. 💕

Also, one of the reasons why Loona wasn’t adopted was stated in HB, They stated that she had serious attitude problems which could have resulted in her lashing out at potential caregivers and stuff like that ( This is like a head-canon with proof lmao ) And I also agree, I would love to see an episode that mainly focuses more on the main women/feminine people of the show.

I love Millie's redesign cuz she looks way more like a gremlin fighter type and it really works well with Moxxie's uptight, bowtie and suit design.

I like it how you kept on editing in Angle with different facial expressions to compliment what you were talking about at the time. Gives the vid a nice touch. And yeah, I know this editing trick has been done to death in commentary vids, but you seemed to do it better. Can't really explain why.

Honestly I love how Hellhound are all different breeds of dogs and not just all the same. It kinda of inspired my HellHound Oc Jack to be this German Shepard. Plus I put my love for Fallout New Vegas into his design by giving him an outfit like The NCR Veteran Ranger Armor with the trench coat. He also uses the M1 Garand also known as the battle rifle in Fallout. The Backstory for Jack is that he escaped the Orphanage when he was 15 and went out in the wilds of the Wrath Ring being like an Outlaw.

I personally feel like Millie should have a more detail in her outfit- And I feel like her hair should be a little more messy 😅 She really needs more of a backstory. Moxxie is a very good character don't get me wrong but he is very overused and has way to much screen time

I love Loona’s redesign here^^^ Another banger you pulled out man But I do think it’s very rare for a hellhound to get adopted, and I’m going to guess the system in hell is even worse than the adoption system irl. Also since it’s like a pound, no one wants to adopt the dog that barks,growls, or seemingly has a very bad attitude. They all want the dogs that wag their tails, the happy ones that are nicer. And yeah maybe Loona was nicer when she was younger, but even kids or dogs like that get over looked for a different more “better breed” and don’t tend to get picked. It’s very sad but it happens. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense

I think it's worth mentioning that character designs are kept simple for the sake of a smooth animation process. Still, I think your redesigns look great :)

As always, you have some wonderful and well thought out designs. I feel like Luna and Millie show every moment that they're just a last minute addition. The plot, the context, the relationships, everything revolves around three guys, I imagine that Vipzie just looked and said 'true, women exist, let me put something' and that's why from their designs to their attitudes they are situational. Millie seems to just have an obsession with her husband and Luna is just the misbehaved adoptive daughter. I hope that in the future they will be taken more into account and give them some coherence.

Honestly, Adore and Love these redesigns A LOT! They just make so much more sense! Also, I think the darker hair Loona looks waay better in my opinion, it just fits! ^^ I think the main reason her OG shorts is anger inducing, because of the rips and how bland it looks, but also with that added random cut of a crescent moon on her hips{I believe those are holes/cuts on the shorts}. Also, Millie having a ponytail works well instead of a pixie cut, cause it can give a good shot of having her hair up for her business work and duties with her parents farm, but having her hair done and free when she's out with Moxxie where she has more of a calm feel to her presence but still have her strong muscle auro with her.{I also wish she kept the scar from that bear trap, this show has the thing of not really keeping deep deep wounds having a lasting scar on the bodies} I feel like the redesigns fit more with their work and the story, and actually shows that they work at a business then just doing it for....nothing? Like, they never really show us that they make any sort of payment from their job, which I wish they put more into the story cause you kind of forget that they are meant to be getting paid until it's brought up. I know you'll probably do Blitzø and Moxxie when your not busy with many projects. But, I feel the idea of their outfits should be more comfortable and flexible, cause how is it not super uncomfortable fighting in suits?(Ofc, I know characters that wear tuxedos CAN fight, but I feel like it makes them stand out a lot from the other's) and feel like they'd be more stuck in their past then anything, maybe having both have something they got from their mom's? Since, that could be a reason why they are so close because they both relate to losing their mom{possibly at a young age} as well

I think if they had the budget and time like big companies their designs would be much different and not as simple. Animating things is expensive, time consuming, and difficult especially if you have more complicated designs.

These look amazing! As much as I love Viv and her work, a little more thought could definitely have been put into the designs. That said, I absolutely adore the work, thought and beauty that comes off of yours! You’re truly an amazing artist.

As someone who's worked in animal shelters/adoptions, one of the biggest factors to perfectly adoptable animals not finding their way out are bite history related, medical expenses related to preexisting conditions, or sadly being born in care and being lost in the system. I wonder if any Loona centered episode will dive into her history prior to Blitzø or the earlier development of their father/daughter dynamic?

The loona redesign is one of my favs so far!! Its SOO nice to look at and I wish it was canon in the show bc I would totally use it as my pfp. If you joined the design team everyone would look phenomenal!

I love these desings. I feel like it reallly brings attention to how they are as to where they're from. I like the OG versions to, but these are amazing I was so shocked to see them. Like when I was watching the beginning, I love the edits they always make me laugh, and then Millie's sketch came up and got me flabbergasted. Anyways sorry for making this long I just wanted to say that every art/video you do is amazing.
